There is a lot of time before next year to see how young players progress and how vets perform throughout the year, so it is still way too early to say who for sure is the best 1B option. I also wouldn’t get my hopes up on FA players as it takes 2 to tango, and I don’t see Stl as a very attractive city for many FAs. Stl at least has the legacy and reputation with it, so there may be some players attracted by that, but we as fans obviously have no insight.
I specifically wouldn’t want to touch Pete Alonso and that horrible contract he is going to get as everything about his profile says he will age poorly. He will also likely be a big overpay of 6-7 years in the $150-$180 million range.
Christian Walker is interesting and the Cardinals should certainly do their due diligence with him, but again we would have to attract him. They shouldn’t go more than 3 or 4 years with options.
I wouldn’t feel great about a Burly/Baker platoon for 1B. I just don’t see Baker ever hitting in MLB and is a AAAA type player. Burly is okay, but I don’t feel great about him as a full time 1B or DH unless he shows he really can hit for power this year as he simply does not walk. He has been hitting nice lately, but I need to see it over the full year and with some power.
I doubt Contreras or Walker are moved to 1B. Contreras has done a good not great job at C, but Herrera doesn’t look like it to me behind the plate. Walker I think can actually be an average RF so why waste him at 1B.
Gorman could be moved to 1B as his offensive game profiles for the position. It does allow Edman to be a 2B again, but we have to see with the rest of the year if Siani still looks like a starting CF or Scott develops into it.
Trades are the other option, but who knows what the market looks like. Mo could try to make a splash like he has with Goldy and Arenado in the past and trade for someone like Vlad Jr. to sign to an extension. Vlad will have a decent prospect cost and high $ ($25 mill arb probabl), but he certainly would get the fans attention. Other guys like Josh Naylor and Yandy Diaz could be options that Mo maybtarget. Or targeting a young prospect MLB ready from another org like Bal.
He still has a chance to come back this season, so it may not be a complete waste. $6 million isn’t chump change for an MLB org, but that isn’t really that much wasted money to an org. That is about 1/30th the total payroll.
I joined right when I think I heard them say Liberatore is starting Saturday? Hopefully this time is the charm and he can earn that spot and make me not look dumb for having faith in him.
Interesting quote about veteran leadership on the Royals from Wacha and Lugo.

A really good article about Edmundo Sosa from The Athletic. The article is only for members, but the TLDR is that Edmundo grew up in Panama in a family of 4 kids in a single rented room with the parents sleeping on the floor. His father passed when he was 6. Moises Rodriquez saw something special in him from just playing defense. And Edmundo is very appreciative of just having the opportunity to play baseball and improve his family’s lives.
Actually by most metrics we already do have a bottom 10 pitching staff even with some over performances. 22nd or lower in ERA, FIP, K/9, HR/9, and fastball velocity. Our only stat in the top half is BB/9, where we rank 8th.
Yeah ZTR this helps me feel better in the offense. I think by the end of the year, we will have around a top 10ish lineup, but our SP beyond Gray have really outperformed their FIP and are going to regress. Miles has been bad and worse than expected, but he doesn’t look to be good either and is around a 4.5 FIP. We have already seen it with Lynn the last few starts, and I imagine we will see Gibson regressing over time as well.
Game ball to Siani and the HP ump. We had a lot of calls go our way tonight. I normally don’t look at the ump score cards, but it probably was heavily in our favor tonight.
Pugs, if we don’t win the Central, I want Mil to win it. I would rather see them doing good in the playoffs too over other teams. At least make the NLC look better
I was looking at the MIL box score. They lost in 10, but the worst part for them is Ross left after 1 IP with an injury and they went through 8 RP. Their BP was already heavily used
Yeah Pugs he is the front runner in the AL. I can see a couple more for him in the future even if he doesn’t win it this year.
Gunnar, Rutschman with Holliday, Mayo, and Kjerstead in the future. That Baltimore team is going to be really good for years to come. Cowser and Westberg look like really good contributes too.
The Orioles do need a Closer. If we are selling in July, I would shop Helsey to them along with some other pieces to see what it would take to get Coby Mayo. I doubt they will trade him though unless it is for Mason Miller.
I like the style of the unis, but I would like them to be a little more different. I also don’t like The Lou. Pardon me I’m going to the loo(u).

That is worth a shout out in my opinion. Finding at least up down type RPs from atypical means.
We won’t need a #5 starter until the May 29th game. We could go with an extra RP in the pen until then and let Liberatore pitch RP. I was hoping for more out of him and haven’t given up on him yet. He may get the next start still, although they could give it to Thompson or Robberse as well.
I forgot Rivas was even in the 40 man, so yeah he could be it. As far as who leaves the 26 man, it will be Roycroft or Robertson as we need a fresh arm and they both have options.
That is great to hear about Loutos. I wonder what the 40 man change will be. Will it be Roycroft or will Ingram be DFA’ed by yet another club this year? Roycroft has actually been more impressive than I thought and he may get claimed. I’m not saying he has been good, but he has some value as an up down RP as he still have 3 option years.
