I thought I was the only one still up watching 1TD. Much less participation when games are on the west coast
Atta boy Burly! He really needs to hit for some power to justify that DH role.
Looking closer at Burly’s hit locations, he is almost split evenly on pull, center, and oppo. With more emphasis on pulling the ball ala Arenado of the past style, he probably would be hitting more homers and being a better overall hitter. He still should take advantage of going oppo at times to get a hit to drive runs in when needed, but he will produce more runs for the team hitting for more power.
Yeah it looks like Gray lost his command that inning. At least we get out with a lead in tact still, but it would be nice to have a big comfortable lead to avoid using our leverage RP
Some good news there with Middleton and Naughton. Also looking forward to Quinn pitching in A+. If he pitches well there I bet they promote him to AA by late summer as he is still only about league average age for High A.
It was good to see Hjerpe only walk 2. Still a 4.5 BB/9 rate, but a little improvement that can hopefully improve.
I notice Jonathan Meija didn’t play today after leaving the game after 1 AB Saturday and the team having off days Sunday and Monday. Hopefully if he is hurt it isn’t serious. I also see Packy Naughton pitched for the FCL team so maybe he is on the road back.
Also very glad to see Quinn Matthews promoted to Peoria as he needs more of a challenge. I see Panigua pitched relief, but 4 IP so I am curious if they plan on piggy backing him to keep his innings up for development.
I could say this about almost any unsuccessful pitcher, but whenever Liberatore misses, he misses belt high.
I wasn’t able to watch, but seeing his pitch locations he was really missing up today. I wonder if he was flying open on pitches today. Definitely not a good outing.
I hope it doesn’t become an excuse for his results on Monday.
It sounds like you don’t have much confidence in Liberatore, Brian? His outing against CWS was against a bad opponent so I can understand hesitation. The Angels aren’t great but are around middle of the road so at least it is a step up.
@bicyclemike hopefully so. There is no reason for this to be a below average offense with the players we have.
It is hard for him to get RBIs when no one gets in base in front of him. RBI isn’t a great measure, but if you want to look at those type of numbers he has 12 runs which isn’t too bad.
@1TD, if Siani can keep a 85-95 wRC+, I think he sticks in the bigs as a starting CF for a while with that glove. His glove more than makes up for him being below average with the stick. He can play small ball too so he can help manufacture runs in close games.
Is what Siani is right now about what we expect out of Scott, but with more BBs and less SBs? Siani’s glove has been absolutely amazing and Scott’s wasn’t as good while he was here.
Yeah to me one of the worst parts of his year so far is that he was borderline HoF beforehand, and such a bad year may not let him get in. He has had a deserving career to get in in my opinion.
I think it is safe to say Michael Curialle will be the player of the day tomorrow. 3 for 3 so far with 3 HRs and 7 RBIs.
I don’t mind that decision, but I don’t understand the decision to pitch him in relief the other day. He will likely be on an even further reduced pitch count. I was hoping he could get up to 55-60 in his 2nd start in a row.
@Texascard yeah this team needs a few sparkplugs who show emotion. Bring in some energy and it helps the team and likely fan interest as well. Look at how exciting Elly del la Cruz is in part due to his energy.
In the shadows, Crawford looks like Burly. Same shape and long hair. Not what you would expect of a SS.
I don’t know why I watch Mikolas games as it is so frustrating. At this point I would rather turn his rotation spot over to Liberatore. It isn’t like Liberatore could pitch any worse and him gaining experience will be much better for the future Cardinals than Mikolas.
Arenado would have a little value if we take on salary, but I don’t know if it is worth trading him given the return we would likely get. Better to stick it out with him at 3B and hope he starts pulling the ball again getting XBH. Arenado has never had great EV and his power is very dependent on pulling to the short side of the field.
I’m not sure how Turner Ward would keep his job. There will always be bad luck and some players will under perform, but the scale on this team seems to be pointing to something else. On paper, we should have a good offense, but here is a list of our players who are currently having their worst season of their career by wRC+.
