bling, Rainiel is a full step or two above the highest Crooks ever was evaluated as a prospect and multiple as a hitter. Scouts love Rainiel, the data geeks love Rainiel, and traditional stats folks love Rainiel as well. He passes whatever test with flying colors. There were a lot of questions on if Crooks would hit but scouts were really high on his defense.
Baez is still likely not in my top 10 for the Cards system. He has major plate discipline concerns that I expect may get more exposed at AAA and MLB.
On the HRs, they are drastically up across all the minors due to changes to the ball. After only a half dozen or so guys the prior 5 seasons getting 30 HRs, there are already 12 there today with a decent chunk of the season left.
Brian, you brought up Clemente and I noticed from watching box scores as well he has been doing much better control wise. Another good outing today.
Rainiel and Jesus Baez put on a power show in Springfield. Rainiel has been so such a consistent performer after an initial slow start to AA. I would push him to AAA for a couple of weeks to finish the year.
Jnevel, I also noticed that about the draftees. Some really bad debuts but I do understand these guys are probably rusty after a couple of months off of competition.
Thanks jnevel. I would think they would let him work another inning especially with such a taxed pen.
A lot of innings have had to be covered by the pen this weekend. At least they have an off day tomorrow
Who knows what injury Dobbins has? It’s a little early to be counting him out for the year.
I’m just assuming, but forearm tightness always has the same pattern. A pitcher takes time off for a month or two (so no Dobbins this year). Then they pitch a few games and feel it again and end up with Tommy John surgery. My fingers are crossed it isn’t this, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see Dobbins until 2028.
Fernandez replaced Pallante on the 26 man yesterday. But they likely would have demoted him today without the Dobbins injury so Mathews could make the start. I will be curious if Hjerpe makes his start today in Memphis or if instead he is pitching in the bigs in a few days.
Matching Carolos Martinez would be quite a good career outcome for Brandon Clarke. Martinez was never elite, but he did have some really solid seasons and then just fell off. Although Clarke’s current command is worse than Martinez’s ever was, but also his stuff is better than Martinez as well.
Wow Fermin just whiffed on that fly ball. It would have tied the game, but that straight whiff loses the game
If the owners get their way as well for the international draft with a minimum age of 18, then next year their wouldn’t be any draft/signings either most likely to account for that gap year of upping the age requirement.
Mud, if you count the 9th tonight, Gastelum’s last 6 games he has pitched 7.1 innings striking out 15 of the 24 batters he has faced with 1 walk and 1 hit allowed.
Let’s see if he can close it out.
Unfortunate to hear Dobbins left with forearm discomfort. That is the one I feel like always turns into some type of elbow problem after diagnosis.
I will be interested to see how he does of he plays 3B. No real risk on moving him there and it doesn’t hurt to see if he is acceptable defensively there instead of just jumping to an assumption that he can’t play there.
I’m ready to be done with Eastern time games. Bling said in another thread it is an awkward time due to dinner prep and I agree with that.
I haven’t had Campos on my top 50 in the past year or so at least, but he has been steadily chugging along. My main gripe with him was he constantly smashed the ball into the ground, but he has been improving there. I still don’t know if he is a top 50 prospect for me, but that is more about the current depth of the org. But I do look at Campos more as a guy who may not stick in the Cards org, but he will play in the bigs and likely stick around for a while as a backup catcher type of guy bouncing from team to team.
Gastelum has done very well lately. The Cards really need controllable guys like him to develop into bullpen pieces rather than having to spend money on the pen. I’m getting to where I would like to see Winquest or Rincon get a chance as well.
I really enjoyed the episode this week and getting to hear more about some of the position players and AAA RP.
Miguel Hernandez does have some really impressive metrics in A ball. He is hitting the ball really hard while lifting and making acceptable rates of contact. Nice to hear Kyle’s thoughts in him.
The Rojas promotion is interesting. DSL and FCL are done with their real seasons, but the FCL I think has some bridge games and maybe they wanted to get Rojas to the US and see what he has to potentially be aggressive with him next year.
I haven’t had a chance to listen to this, but sharing it. I’ll try to watch some point in the next few days.

Leahy has proved me right and wrong. Last year this time I thought he would be getting a rotation spot and that was right. But early this year I had given up on him as a SP since he was struggling so bad and pitching so short into games. But he has really improved since mid June and has been very dominant albeit in short stints. I think they are trying to limit his innings as he still isn’t pitching deep. But maybe with a full season under his belt as a SP by next year they let him pitch deeper.
We didn’t have a top 10 pick this year and people loved our 1st pick and our draft.
I didn’t love the first pick but with who was on the board it was an okay selection. The guys I really wanted went a few picks earlier that I saw as having a good amount more upside than Condon (described by FG as least toolsy top 15 pick). Maybe Condon will end getting to enough power though to have enough upside to be an above average offensive guy though.
