Dan Clark sounds like an annoying ass complaining to complain and make sure players don’t want to stay / sign in PIT. Players have down years and if Skenes down year is a 3.91 ERA while being unlucky with a FIP of 3.32 FIP, then he is doing fine. It would help if the Pirates had even an average defense rather than well below average in the bottom 10. Maybe focus on actual reasons the team isn’t performing rather than what seems a personal grind against Skenes
Jnevel, if Rainiel’s last 3 weeks have been less effective, then all other players must be in the doghouse for such poor play by comparison.
This doesn’t count the 3 playoff games (would still easily be a good line with them) as I can’t get a good filter that gives lines with regular and post season.

What would be needed from ace reese next year to be a top 100 guy and how strong is Rainiel Rodriguezs case for no 1 prospect?

Rodriguez’s case for No. 1 overall is plenty strong, IMO. Young player at a premium position who produced like nobody’s business this year. This coming list might be the first time in a while we have fierce debate at 1-1.

4 days agoI love the Cardinals system so very much (not just saying this because there is a cardinal glaring at me from the fence right now). Loved their draft, loved what I heard about Emanuel Luna, loved what they did at the deadline. System is stacked and there’s not much else to say.

4 days agoHe’s strong, athletic and hits the living heck out of the ball. As I said on the podcast the other day, if he’d done anything close to what he did in the nine active games all season long, he would probably be in the Top 100 and might have passed Angeibel Gomez for the No. 1 spot in the DSL. The reviews on him were ridiculous.

The AL Central and AL West to me are disappointments and I will not be rooting for them unless it is the Guardians. The Mariners in particular I had high hopes for but they floundered.
I am excitedly watching to see if the Brewers get to 100 and if they can hold off the mighty Dodgers for the best record
Peete has higher upside than Chase Davis. Davis I think looks like the upside of 4th OFer at this point. If he turns out to even be the 4th OFer, I would be satisfied at this point. Davis smashes the ball into the ground at an extreme rate and he watches every pitch. He seems adamant to not make a change to his approach at this point.
Peete has the upside to be an average starting OFer. Peete has a lot of risk with his bat control but he hits the ball hard and can actually do damage since it is in the air at a good rate.
Bling, there is a chance the PTBNL is a 2026 draftee and the teams can’t officially name them until the off-season when this year’s draftees are allowed to be traded.
That is a fun list of guys going to the AFL. Really glad to see Roby there but I am guessing it will be in an RP role to limit pitches this year.
Maybe Bobby Witt Jr. should stop hitting those lasers into the parking lot to focus on his defense. Oh wait he is also the best defensive SS as well.
I understand your point, but also players don’t just stop focusing on defense because they are good at offense. Instead, playing defense good enough to be an MLB SS is very hard. Hitting well at the MLB level is very hard. There just aren’t a lot of guys with the ceiling to do both let alone realize that ceiling.
Baez likely won’t play SS at the bigs though. Fingers crossed his approach works at the bigs as he is so aggressive I have concerns it won’t translate when facing MLB pitchers.
Pugs, you are a Packers fan too right? My complaint with modern NFL coaches is being too smart for their own britches. I don’t understand the Packers going for it on 4th down earlier in the 4th quarter instead of kicking the easy FG to go yo by 8 at the time.
I would go with Fajardo for the 3rd spot. But I also would have an easier decision there as I would be promoting Eagen to AAA for the remainder of the season and to be their 3rd playoff SP.
Makes sense on the Clarke promotion so he can get some innings under his belt. I assume the promiis more about that than performance but his performance at A+ wasn’t bad

I am generally aggressive on ranking position players at the lowest levels higher, but for pitchers I am more conservative as proximity to the majors gives a lot more info given the attrition rate of pitchers.
Yeah agree with Forsch. The group acquiring and developing the players isn’t even the same as the prior regimes and their failures shouldn’t impact how you evaluate the current prospects.
Bling, Dobbins won’t be in contention for a rotation spot. He had to undergo the knife for Tommy John surgery.
I’m just not considering Graceffo at all. Leahy out of the pen pitched much better than Graceffo has when you looked at indicators of future success.
There are also so many more promising options for next year along the lines of what Brian said. Graceffo has a low ceiling as a SP if he can even make it. I would rather a guy with upside like Hjerpe, Molina, Cjintje, or the next wave of guys like Doyle and Franklin get opportunities.
I’m not as high on Graceffo especially as an option for starting. Even out of the pen, he has been walking too many and generating too few whiffs. What he has done a good job at is limiting HRs. His BABIP shows he has been very lucky and I wouldn’t be surprised if next year he has an ERA over 4 out of the pen even.
I had him at 6 so he can’t go much higher for me. I don’t think Mathews or Baez will graduate. I may drop him a spot or two not for him falling, but more because I have been impressed with Bernal.
I’m fine either way as long as Hjerpe is getting innings. I’ll have to watch the recording to see how he looked but it sounds like he looked good in addition to good results. They also have the dead weight rotation spot in Liberatore they can use to get going guys innings if they want to be a little more aggressive.
I would expect Torres to be back. He has done a good job for a bench guy. He hits a little and get on base while being versatile. He has performed a little better than I expected even though I was an early person to put him in my tip 50 prospect list. The minors stat like obviously wasn’t going to translate to the bigs with his low power profile, but he has been respectable with the bat.

I don’t think there will be. It has been a topic of conversation at the field the last couple of weeks, scouts with teams who I think have a crunch telling me their team bet on the Rule 5 getting banged.This one I did call halfway when it was forearm tightness. I said he would likely try to pitch again and then it would still be sore and they would have to go TJ surgery. I am glad they at least went ahead and did the surgery rather than delaying it.
Pedro Pages starting at Catcher over Bernal? Pedro Pages? Pages??? I can hear Kyle saying some very explicit things that would only be permitted on Prospects After Dark.
I need someone who has access to a pre or post game reporter to get them to ask Marmol what in the hell he is doing starting Pages rather than letting Bernal just play C. It was bad enough Herrera did yesterday, but now 2 games in a row and this time with a guy who has no role on this roster at all getting the start.
Thanks for going over Baez and Ortiz. It was very good to hear Kyle’s thoughts on Ortiz’s defense. It sounds like he may not be a viable 3B without some work, but the bat should be able to play in my opinion somewhere.
