He will be taking a pay cut no matter who he signs with unless he has an MVP type second half.

    1. One game is one game. It’s essentially meaningless. Did last night’s game make me forget Gorman’s terrible June? Of course not.

    2. I’ve always liked Burleson’s hitting potential. But I’m also a realist. He does not run well. He’s a liability in the outfield. He has a poor OBP. He hits too many singles vs extra base hits.

Burleson is fine as a DH. Not great, but he can contribute. I don’t like him in the outfield (ever) and only occasionally at first base.

As far as you’re concerned, you’ve compared him to Tony Gwynn and Joey Votto. Both comps are preposterous.

Mr Shady I sure do not wish to see you banned, so I thought I’d take a moment to respectfully remind you that this is your third “lineup” thread created in the past 25-30 days (going back to June 10th). This is a clear violation of posting rules and I think you’ve been warned before.

I think I speak for nearly everyone when I say we’d hate to see you suspended or even banned for this behavior.

Again, just a friendly reminder…please have a great day!

Judging a player based upon one random game is like judging a marathon runner based upon one random 100 yard stretch!

Of course, we all love the potential Saggese has flashed, but he’s a long, long way from starting for the 2025 Cardinals.

Probably prudent to see how this season plays out before constructing 2025 lineups.

Gorman is 24. Walker is 22. Plenty of time to achieve greatness. Plenty of precedent as well.

Lou Brock is a great example. The Little Bears didn’t know what to do with him. He flashed power. He flashed speed. They were confused as to what he was.

The Cards made a move for an underperforming, 25 year-old kid, told him he was a leadoff hitter who needed to steal bases, and the rest is history.

Like Brock, both Gorman and Walker have the tools…they simply need to learn how to use them properly. Let’s see what happens.

    Mr Walton & LACardFan…

The devil is in the details.

Note: I stated Dunn was the better hitter in Memphis “ALL” season. Fermin has not been in Memphis ALL season has , has he?

    Gorman is a curious case.

Last season at age 23 he had an
.805 OPS with 27 HR in just 406 ABs.

And earlier this season he went on a tear. Actually, as horrible as he was in June, he still leads the team in home runs and is third in RBI.

Point is…the talent is there. Is he hurt? Is he a mental case? A substance abuse issue? Or would better and/or different coaching bring him back to where he should be?

It’s very curious. He didn’t just forget how to hit in June. My guess is a complete lack of confidence. Maybe a couple weeks off to clear his head would help? Couldn’t hurt.

With Goldy, it appears he’s nearing the end at 36/37. Not unusual at all.

Arenado is perplexing. Only 33. I’m thinking it has to be an undisclosed injury, but who knows? He’s totally void of power. Weird.

I hate the idea of sending Gorman down, but the way he’s now struggling, I guess it may be worth a shot.

IF they were to send him down I think Dunn deserves a shot as he’s been our best Memphis hitter all season. Better than Fermin, Prieto, and Saggese by a wide margin and he does play second (as well as third).

Hard to say what he is as he’s always hurt…

Runs well, plays really good defense, and gets on base…but…you can’t make the club if you’re always in the tub.

I would be reluctant to pull The Hurdy Gurdy Man out of LF at this point. He’s playing D at a GG caliber level and crushing baseballs.

As someone astutely pointed out, moving Noot to Right and Burleson to DH essentially improves the defense in RF while improving the offense at DH (Burleson over Marp).

    Song by Donovan

Thrown like a star in my vast sleep
I opened my eyes to take a peek
To find that I was by the sea
    Gazing with tranquility

That’s a no-brainer as every defensive metric rates Noot an above average Right Fielder.

An OF of Hurdy Gurdy, Siani, and Noot is one heckuva good defensive OF!

Well Mr Shady, I’ll post what I wish to post, thank you very much. With that said, how have I been exposed? Where is the hate?

The only thing I’ve posted in weeks about Your man-crush is that he’s the greatest .277 hitting outfielder with an OPS under .800 that I’ve ever seen. That’s one heckuva compliment!

The only one who is exposed is you! Everyone knows that no matter the topic, you will try to bring it back to Burleson.

You were absolutely right! For my money Alec Burleson is THE greatest .277 hitting outfielder with an OPS UNDER .800 in the history of the game!

With that said Mr Shady, anyone who spells “elsewhere” as e-l-s-e-w-h-a-r-e should probably avoid calling others clowns. And that’s a fact, Jack.

Do you really think it would be wise to give up on the 24 year-old Gorman after a bad month?

    And

If you were to trade him, wouldn’t it be wise to wait until his value peaks again? Why would you sell now when he’s in a slump?

And do I need to remind you again that even if a team was kind enough to take Arenado off our hands, that he has a no-trade contract?

    It’s pretty simple, Brian.
    Defense matters.
As bad as Burleson’s bobble was, the killer to me was not getting to a fly ball that hung in the air for nearly 24 hours.
Burleson is a DH. Maybe an occasional start at first. He should never be in the outfield.

Pretty clear Burleson should never play anything other than DH.

Brian, I’m thinking of starting an Alec Burleson forum. All Burleson, All the time. 24/7/365. Or buying a radio station which exclusively discusses Burleson.

He has the type of talent to warrant this level of attention. Why, I’m even thinking of trademarking the names “Alec Burleson” and “Burly”.

There’s still room on the Burleson Bandwagon. Better hop on now, before it’s too late!
