AdM, you’ve given me enormous grief. You’ve toned it down here. Because Brian doesn’t tolerate the antagonism some other forums do. Votto hit the ball hard consistently. Burleson hits the ball hard consistently. That’s the main and most important comp of the two. I’m getting a kick out you squirming around trying to rationalize Burleson’s recent success. Stay tuned, Counselor, better things are ahead for Burly.
June 12, 2024 at 7:11 pm #256024KCB, maybe you should send your body shot to Burly. Let him see what an athletic baseball physique should look like. lol
June 12, 2024 at 7:25 pm #256033KCB, “Striking out isn’t bad and good average doesn’t mean anything. Striking out isn’t bad and good average doesn’t mean anything” .you think Burly would have taken the ball for a strike with the bases loaded like Carlson just did? No way, Jose. Maybe you are the one that needs to “get in touch”. lol
June 12, 2024 at 7:30 pm #256037I’m 6′ 175. Exercise daily. You are right about that third strike. Burly is a free swinger. That’s why his obp is low. He makes lots of outs. I never once said I didn’t like him. He’s a character. We need more of that in today’s game.

KCB, what do you feel is Burleson’s conceivable ceiling? Joey Votto-type hitter, maybe?
More of a Joey Chestnut-type . . .
June 13, 2024 at 8:28 am #256092Burly, Burly, blah, blah, blah. So many posts from the same few posters with so little substance. Time to change the channel, folks. And I don’t mean hijacking yet another thread. Give it a rest… find another hobby, please…
June 15, 2024 at 6:53 am #256346Brian, I’m thinking of starting an Alec Burleson forum. All Burleson, All the time. 24/7/365. Or buying a radio station which exclusively discusses Burleson.
He has the type of talent to warrant this level of attention. Why, I’m even thinking of trademarking the names “Alec Burleson” and “Burly”.
There’s still room on the Burleson Bandwagon. Better hop on now, before it’s too late!
June 15, 2024 at 7:25 am #256350Brian I think you can lay blame at BillMo’s feet. If the Cardinals outfield was not composed of nothing but 4As, UTs and fringy bench players, not for days or even weeks, but months, then you and the the rest of us would not be having a problem. Fire off a harshly worded letter explaining that when you just load up on IL list regulars and Texas League whiz-bangs, then the comment board suffers the consequences.

stlcard25ParticipantI need to apologize to GameCard. His Tommy Edman love made me secretly root that we’d trade Edman multiple times over the years. Now that Tommy is out, I’ve come to realize that GC has nothing on the Burleson worship going on between these few cultists. If only a trade would solve the issue…

I feel the same way about the love of certain players instead of the team. Truly mindblowing.
June 15, 2024 at 9:06 am #256359LACardFan, it’s not that. It’s about having the kind of player come through the system that embodies the Cardinals. Donovan and Burleson are those type of players. There are others. As I’ve said before, I’m thrilled to have some players that don’t strike out frequently.
June 15, 2024 at 10:13 am #256360Shady – it would be nice if you could make comments without always figuring out a way to indlude Burleson in the conversation.
Burleson is a 2nd round draft pick who has produced 0.1 Career WAR.
Donovan is a 7th rounder who has produced 6.7 Career WAR.
Nootbaar is an 8th rounder who has produced 6.8 Career WAR.
If we are talking about people overcoming odds to produce a positive contribution for the Cardinals, it would be Donovan and Nootbaar.
Even though the Cardinals are terrible at drafting second rounders, I personally have the expectation that people drafted in the second round should make the MLB team and should be positive contributors to the big league club.
I have much lower expectations for people drafted in the sixth round or later, because they are basically lottery tickets.
And, yes, I get that people have a disdain for players that strikeout too much. That is an organizational philosphy that helps explain why such players tend to flourish when they are traded away to other organizations that are more tolerant of strkeouts.
My suggestion to the Cardinals as an organiation is to stick to drafting players that doen’t have swing and miss issues, because I have never seen the organization “fix” those issues in their development process.

Nicely done. Common sense. Agree.

Jake Woodford had a cult like following on here as well which was really strange. I believe Jake is currently toiling in the minors for the Pirates after being cut by the White Sox of all teams.

jj-cf-stlParticipantOur RH batters are coming thru while Burly and Gorman cooled this week.
The opposing SP has been a L/R stagger for 8 straight games.
June 15, 2024 at 5:01 pm #256464The Cardinals have a dilemma in the middle of the order, right now. They simply have to get more power out of Goldschmidt, Gorman and Arenado if they are going to hit there. If they don’t. I’m not sure the solution.
June 15, 2024 at 5:04 pm #256465Yeah, you’d think that the odds would demand that one of them step up, but none of the 3 are providing any teeth to the middle of the order.
June 15, 2024 at 5:23 pm #256466Maybe Oli should give this lineup a try. To shake the same ole’, same ole’ up a little. Let Goldy and Gorman try to hit their way back up to 3 and 5.
1) Winn SS
2) Donovan LF
3) Burleson RF
4) Arenado 3B
5) Goldschmidt 1B
6) Hererra DH
7) Gorman 2B
8) Carlson CF
9) Pages CJune 15, 2024 at 5:31 pm #256467He can try anything he wants. The reality is that one or both of the corner IF’ers are going to have to generate significant production for this team to consistently win baseball games.
June 15, 2024 at 6:03 pm #256468The Cardinals just can’t seem to “get their act together”, collectively, long enough to make a real difference.
June 24, 2024 at 7:30 pm #257679Shady, what’s the difference between this thread and the one you just started??
Mods, feel free to delete this post if I overstep.
June 24, 2024 at 7:48 pm #257696forsch31, my bad. You are correct. Sorry for the inconvenience to you and other posters. Please let the most recent post fade away.

ParticipantWith Winn and Burleson emerging, I can see a long-term lineup with these guys headlining it:
LF Donovan L
SS Winn R
1B Burleson L
CA Contreras/Arenado R
2B Gorman L
3B Arenado/Contreras R
RF Nootbaar L
DH Walker R
CF Edman/Carlson/ScottSaggese and Herrera/Pages fill in appropriately also. I don’t see that as a contending lineup though.
June 25, 2024 at 11:01 am #257775Pads: Goldy squeezed out of your lineup altogether?
June 25, 2024 at 11:13 am #257777And writing Siani out as a possibility?
