If Cards really want to improve and grab a playoff spot…I think it’s imperative they bring up Crooks & Blaze. How much better could they be with these two in the lineup against lefty’s? How much deeper would our starting 9 be with them in the offense?
I think we all know what we have with guys like Pages, Scott, and Saggese.While not a rookie, Walker is putting together an age 23 season which rivals 21 year-old Albert Pujols’ rookie season.
I can’t remember a turnaround by a young player quite like this. Maybe Jose Cruz after he was traded or Van Slyke after he was traded. It’s been incredible!
As we head to the end of May, it’s been more exciting than I could’ve imagined. It’s fun watching Cardinal baseball again.
And…a few questions have been answered. Yes…Walker is over the hump a rising star. Same with McGreevy. Herrera getting on base at a .390 clip and JJ is always on base as well.
Of course, still hard to say what we have in Gorman. He looked really good at dish last night…other nights, not so much.One thing for certain…this is NOT a 90 loss team! Enjoy!!!
Lots of “ifs”…but if Walker is for real…if Baez is for real…and if Blaze Jordan & Crooks keep raking…well…Card’s may have something as they move towards 2027.
If Walker keeps hitting bombs, the fans will come out. 1998 all over again? Do chics still dig the long ball?
To be fair, no one other than Walker is hitting right now.
I’m really dissatisfied with Herrera & Burly. Walker is mashing and they’re almost all solo shots. Our three table setters are not setting the tables.
I’m old and my memory is faulty…but…I seem to remember some group ranking him #1. But hey…#1 or #4 or #10…I think the consensus this is what scouts believed he would become. It’s been fun to watch, yes?
I doth think a couple of you misunderstood…
I had thought I had made it clear that there is no way May has a John Tudor 1985 season.
My point was…as with Tudor (as well as many others)…it is way, way too premature to write off May and his 2026 season. Tonight was a nice start…let’s all hope he can keep it up.
Not that this would happen in a million years….but….does anyone remember 1985?
Newly acquired pitcher John Tudor started the season 1-8. Went on to have one the great seasons in Card’s history, tossing 10 shutouts!May is not going to do that…but…maybe we should be a little more patient with the kid and see if he can turn it around a bit?
Looking for JJ to have a breakout game. 3-4 hits, couple of stolen bases.
And…can King Kong Walker hit his third of the series?

Nice seeing our rookie phenom (can I call him that) off to a good start!A re-build was needed. I’m excited as it begins. I’d rather this was 2004 and we could watch Pujols, Edmonds, and Rolen every night, but it’s possible 2026 will be the birthing of something special down the road. One can only hope.
His election remains somewhat controversial due to his 36 career fWAR and .260 career BA (with little power).
However, I saw him play and no one was smoother at second base.
I remember the amazing team speed and defense. The amazing relief work of Bruce. And I love the unsung hero’s like Dane Iorg. The steadiness of Forsch contrasted with the zaniness of Andujar. A great team and a great brand of baseball!
Okay, so JJW has only been at Memphis for 10 games…he has what…4 HR? I’d say that’s thriving…sure isn’t struggling!
Here’s how I see it…
No one wants Nado, and Gray doesn’t want leave. We are stuck with them, for better or worse.
We have a huge surplus of lefty bats. Gorman, Noot, Burly, Scott, Hurdy Gurdy with Wetherholt arriving no later than Opening Day 2026.
Therefore, we have to package one or two of these guys…with a pitcher or two, in order to receive a legit, MLB Ready, RH OF bat.
I’d love to move Burly as I don’t like slow, unathletic players. And 12 homers? That won’t get it done. But, I also feel he has trade value to certain teams. I’d move Noot…I’d move Gorman in the right deal.
Can’t move Hurdy Gurdy. His defensive versatility and ability to hit makes him invaluable. And at 28, he should have several outstanding years left.
Can’t move Scott. Who would play CF? He provides dynamic speed & defense (speed sorely lacking on this team) and while his hitting has disappointed, he has a decent OBP & fWAR.
Package a couple of these guys with a Helsley, Matz, Maton and it may bring us a piece or two we really need. Yes, it won’t be easy and yes it will be risky, take guts & creativity…but it can and should be done.
NOW is the time to shake up this organization!
He’s an exciting hitting prospect. I’ve never seen him play, so a couple questions if I may?
Does he stick at catcher?
Is he a legit defensive catching prospect?
Does he have average speed or is he extremely slow?
Is he athletic enough to switch positions if needed?Thanks to anyone who can help fill in the picture on this kid.
Would it kill Oli to try a hit and run in order to at least attempt to wake up this slumbering offense?
With respect, why can’t Wetherholt play third? Admittedly, I haven’t seen him play much, but I’ve noticed he mostly plays SS and is considered a good athlete and fielder. Not a lot of power, but then again, how much power did Boggs or Brett have? Or Ken Oberkfell?
Personally, I think Winn & Wetherholt could be a dynamite team up the middle, but if he is needed at third, I think he could do it.
