    Last 15 games he’s hitting .194 with a .242 OBP.

He’s a competent #2 hitter on a bad team. On a good team he hits 7th or 8th.

    Joey Votto?

    God help us.

Mr Shade, I can’t think of a worse comp than Votto. In 608 PA’s your man has walked 37 times. Votto led the league 5 times in walks and has nearly 1,400 for his career.

You can’t possibly be this clueless? You’re pulling our legs, right?

I know many may disagree, but I’ve seen enough of Sinai. I’d rather give DC one last shot at being an everyday player in CF. He can’t possibly be a worse hitter than Siani.

    As usual you’re being vague.

What am I in denial about?
Is your Beloved Burleson going to lead the league in hitting? Homers? RBI?
Will he receive MVP votes? Will he make the All Star team?

I’ll give you this, he no longer is one of the worst players in MLB like he was in 2022 & 2023. But, he’s nowhere one of the best either.

But I’ve noticed you’re all about mediocrity.

So yes, Burleson has a spot on the Cardinals. They are in last place. A crappy team. But at least Burleson is no longer the crappiest on this crappy team.

Mr Shady, I bashed Burleson when he was not performing. He’s hitting now, good for him.

But, he only has a future as a DH. He’s absolutely horrible in the OF and doesn’t hit for enough power to play first on a winning team.

Now, here’s the difference between you and me. I won’t judge a player on two ABs. You do. I look at his career, I look at his season, and I note if he’s trending up or down. I’m sorry, but two ABs in a vacuum is meaningless.

Where does Burleson fit? Well, I sure wouldn’t hit him second. He’s too slow and his OBP is mediocre at best. He hits a tons of singles, so I’d drop him to seventh in the order and keep him from playing any defense.

Keep in mind with Burleson, he looks great lately in a Card’s uniform. But he’s a mediocre guy on a good team. He has 200 ABs this season And only 16 XBH. Not great. Looks good as a Cardinal, but not great. And I like ballplayers. Guys who can run a bit or play defense.

So go ahead Mr Shady and toot your horn over the incredible mediocre season Burleson is having. Enjoy! You’ve earned it after years of telling everyone what a Superstar Burleson is.

    1. Walker possibly spends entire season in Memphis.
    2. Wouldn’t count on Edman in 2024.
    3. Contreras is the starting catcher.
    4. Noot is out best all-around outfielder. He starts.

While I’m concerned about his trend towards injuries, Noot is the team’s ideal hitter in the two-hole behind WINN.

First of all, he is a high OBP guy (.349 career). Secondly, in 4 seasons he has never slugged below .400. He also runs well. Again, the ideal guy to hit behind WINN.

So, assuming Noot & Willy-Con are back soon (and that’s a big assumption), here’s my lineup moving forward.

    Masyn “it’s spelled W-I-N-N” SS
    Noot RF
    Goldy 1B
    Norman Gorman 2B
    Willy-Con C
    Nado 3B
    Golden Corral DH
    Hurdy Gurdy LF
    Siani CF

DC & Herrera play against tough lefties and to give regulars such as Goldy & Contreras their rest.

It’s not a great lineup, but it’s the best I can do with the assembled talent.

Who is Wynn? Will Edman be back this season and if so, how effective will he be?

So Mr Shady, let me see if I have this straight?

You recognized that a 2nd round draft pick would have a .699 career OPS by age 25 and 557 ABs?

Wow! You must be a baseball prodigy? A savant? Smarter than me, that’s for sure!

I still think it was a good move.

Three seasons in which he averaged 30 HR & 100 RBI while winning Gold & Platinum Gloves.

Now, this season Is a huge disappointment, but again, he’s only 33 and appears to be in great shape. Who could’ve predicted a decline this steep and this rapid?

Well Mr Shady, enjoy Burleson in the All Star game and I’m guessing a top 10 in MVP voting!

I root for Burleson during every at bat. Bottom line is he’s sitting at a .744 OPS. Improved for sure, but incredibly mediocre!

But again, let me know when this superstar actually makes an All Star team or finishes in the top 10 in the MVP voting.

    Mr Shady:

    1. None of us are hyper-sensitive.
    2. None of us are anti-Burleson. We all hope he becomes half the player you think he is.
    3. Burleson IS one of the Cardinal’s better hitters. However, the Cards suck at hitting. He’s an incredibly mediocre MLB hitter!
    4. IF the Cards can ever return to their previous glory, it won’t be with Burleson as a key component. He’s a 25th guy, spot starter, on a good team. Period and end of conversation!

Again and with all due respect, Burleson is NOT a very good MLB hitter! He’s worked hard and in his third year he’s now an AVERAGE MLB hitter. This cannot be disputed in a reasonable way.

Burleson has a .755 OPS & 114 OPS+. Sure, on the Cards that may seem like a very good hitter, but in reality, its average. It’s not terrible, but it sure isn’t All Star caliber either.

Now allow me to be fair. Nolan Gorman has a .809 OPS & a 129 OPS+ and I wouldn’t say he’s a “very good mlb hitter” either.

So Mr Shady, my advice is to cool your jets a bit on your Beloved Burleson as well as your new pet projects like Saggese, Prieto, or Fermin. Yes, we all want them to become stars and help the Cards win games. But it’s far from a sure thing.

With all due respect, Saggese is hitting .226 at Memphis with a .692 OPS. And you want him at first base?!?!?

As another poster pointed out, the Cards have a lot of guys. So far, Masyn Winn & Nolan Gorman are the only two worth getting excited about. The rest until they prove otherwise, are just guys.

Folks say “trade Arenado” as if it’s a simple thing.

He has a no trade clause. He makes a ton of money. He’s on pace for fewer than 20 HR. He’s a shell of his former self at this point.

So, who would want him? Please, for the love of a Supermodel, those of you saying “trade Arenado”, tell me which team wants him and why?

IMHO, we couldn’t give him away at this point.

I’m rooting for Burleson. It was a massive shot. Cards need him to hit like this.

With that said, it was his first XBH in his last 53 ABs. Not sure I’d be tooting my horn just yet.

We all hope he becomes a star.

But at this point, I don’t know what to think. Is he good Burleson, or bad Burleson?

Really hard to say as he has such a spotty track record.

Why do you feel this thread is not necessary?

For 3 weeks Burleson rejuvenated our offense. Now he’s fading hard and fast. Do you not wonder who he is? The guy who tore the cover off the ball for 3 weeks or the guy with a career OPS UNDER .700?

These are exactly THE types of conversations we had as young men in local taverns and saloons after long days of work back in the 80’s before the internet!

If we’re not here to discuss Cardinal players and the team, what are we here for?

What about Burleson? He’s sinking like the Titanic! His last 7 games he’s now slugging .241 with a .267 OBP! His OPS is now lower than Winn & Gorman.

Maybe he needs to be sent to Peoria where he can figure out how to hit again? Maybe he could figure out how to hit more than just singles?

Something to consider, considering how ice cold Burleson currently is.

Might be time to move Alec Burleson while he still has some trade value. He’s starting to regress back to his career norm. His lack of any power whatsoever is troubling. Fat, slow singles hitters rarely have long MLB careers, although he may thrive in a beer softball league.
