Helsley banks another one. That’s a season high water mark at 4 over.
July 2, 2024 at 8:17 pm #258643Another win and another save for Helsey
July 2, 2024 at 8:20 pm #258644Yeah, he’s first half team MVP.
July 2, 2024 at 8:37 pm #258645I would not be using Helsley as much where we are up by three. I would have put Kitty in there in the ninth.
But can’t complain too much – put 7 over the plate. That is much higher than we average.
July 2, 2024 at 8:47 pm #258646Winn, Burleson, Gorman and Walker have some serious offensive talent going forward. IF things progress. Cardinals fans, let’s hope for the best for these four, and others. Including organizational starting pitching.
July 2, 2024 at 8:51 pm #258647Gorman does?
Walker does?
You must be talking about the two that I see play. One strikes out all the time and the other one got sent to the minors.
July 2, 2024 at 8:54 pm #258648Ratsbuddy, I understand your concern with both Gorman and Walker. They have a long way to go to establish consistency as MLB hitters. There’s hope. Consider how far Winn and Burleson have come this season.
July 2, 2024 at 9:00 pm #258650The potential is there for those two, they just have not been consistent enough yet. Still young enough to gain some traction, but no guarantees.
Lou Brock was not anything special when we got him – for a speedy guy who did not hit a lot of home runs he struck out a lot, and was a bad defensive player. But it clicked for him just about the time he came over here. You always think that it can happen in other guys like that as well , hopefully not right after we trade them though.
July 2, 2024 at 9:05 pm #258651I didn’t mind at all seeing Helsley for the final inning. If I’m on the top step I’m taking no chances after holding a 6 run lead earlier in the game. I turn over my hole card.
July 2, 2024 at 9:14 pm #258653Donovan pushed a run across in the 7th to take back the team lead in RBI’s with 42, but after the GS, Gorman was tied for the team lead in RBI’s with 41 despite a batting avg. of .190 to go along with 110 K’s. I’d like to know how rare that is at a little over the half way mark.
July 3, 2024 at 5:22 am #258657We have had other hitters find success with the same MO, a homer a week and nothing in between. O’Neill, DeJong. We know were it goes. But congrats to him on the salami. It made for a nice box score to wake up to.
July 3, 2024 at 9:02 am #258667Gorman is 24. Walker is 22. Plenty of time to achieve greatness. Plenty of precedent as well.
Lou Brock is a great example. The Little Bears didn’t know what to do with him. He flashed power. He flashed speed. They were confused as to what he was.
The Cards made a move for an underperforming, 25 year-old kid, told him he was a leadoff hitter who needed to steal bases, and the rest is history.
Like Brock, both Gorman and Walker have the tools…they simply need to learn how to use them properly. Let’s see what happens.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI always thought Albert used a R-CF target line to make LF bigger. His majestic foul ball HR’s landed in Big Mac land.
