If teams don’t have insurance on the contracts such as the ones mentioned above I have sympathy for them. That’s business and unfortunately things happen. That’s why they have insurance on contracts and those guys were high profile guys that should have had that protection.

I get what everyone is saying and agree for the most part. But there are some really talented guys still available and together they’d push for a playoff spot as has already been pointed out. The problem those players have is they are expecting way too much in this market. There are 5 guys that I’d love for the Cardinals to have any one of or two of and given the current payroll they could afford. That’s where I don’t understand why something can’t be worked out. Not saying it should be the Cardinals because they aren’t the only team in position to make such signings.

It’s really hard to understand how 45 year old Bartolo Colon is on the verge of any type of deal yet Dervish, Lynn, Arrieta, etal are still out there 8 days before camps open. The Rangers for example need real pitching help yet aren’t going after legit pitching instead feeding off the scrape heap. So in a sense it is hard to understand from a players viewpoint as well. This year is hard to understand and something has to give. Maybe the Cardinals still have a shot to improve the club if they want to.

So they need another starter and on paper they will be really good.

Yu and Cain next? If so, then no doubt they are going for it.

Ozuna by himself is not enough. He was a very good start. They need to do more by adding another big bat preferably at a corner infield spot.

Sorry but I don’t trust either pitching addition. I trust them about as much as the guy they shipped off and pay to play for Seattle now.

They have given no indication they plan any other moves. If anything they have all but said they are done. That is not comforting at all. As it stands this is not remotely a playoff caliber team.

I’ve been wondering after reading the comments from team leadership if they are simply out of touch with reality. One comment really makes me wonder just what the hell they were watching last year. That comment was we were in it until the end. Laughable. They were never really in it even when they pulled even with the Cubs in August. That lasted about a day.

I don’t think the fans are asking for much more than true effort. Ok so they got one bat needed two. They needed a SP and two RP and got two retreads hoping the lottery tickets hit (and they might but chances are they won’t). They talked a big game this off season and whiffed IMHO. Started strong with Ozuna and then got a flat tire. As it stands they have spent less money in an off season they were supposed to own and the overall payroll went down and of course profits went up. Unfortunately the win column probably won’t reflect much difference either. They violate the rule of don’t over promise and under deliver. But they know there are 3 plus million sheep that will show up each year so half effort will get it down in their view.

Again I ask are they out of touch? I don’t think the fans are.

It got real quite on this story this evening. Also seems all of the Cardinals moves have gotten just as quite. Wonder if the pause is they are working on this deal at the moment. Gonna be interesting the next few days.

That ended up being a steal from the Marlins.

While cards are in on Marcell Ozuna they have company. The dreaded mystery team has entered the picture.

Get out and get out now. Just the players listed above in any combination would be an overpay.

And just like that the Cardinals GM throws cold water on the rumor.

“Cardinals GM Michael Girsch told Ben Frederickson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that giving up significant assets for a star player with just one year of control remaining is “not a path we are likely to go down.”  Interestingly, this description applies to both Machado and to another oft-mentioned Cards trade target in Josh Donaldson.”

Didn’t think of the 40 man so I’d say that tells us the big league roster will shortly be experiencing some subtractions.

33 years old. Last four years his ERAs have been

    2.12
    3.10
    3.28
    4.57

Trending the wrong way but may be worth the risk.

2 yrs for 11 million with a vesting option pending physical. His ERA was up and velocity down but he still struck out over 10/9 last year.

BW I agree with you and I like this player. I just don’t like the history of the White Sox organization on trades. Would love to have the player if the price is reasonable. It suspect it won’t be.

You can’t deal with that franchise and that’s why I’d dismiss this report. They are crazy what they ask for in trade.

No Miami got exactly what they wanted, salary relief. They are going to take the Astros approach of tanking and drafting high for a few years. Their remaining pieces will bring the prospects. Watch for Ozuna to be next out of the door.

Craig Mish: “Source: Cardinals offer to Marlins as I previously reported is centered around Sandy Alcantara. I’m now told STL has also offered more money than SF in their deal.”

Well if true do they tell Stanton this is the deal they want and put the ball in his court or does it even matter. This has been one very winding road. Hope the end is in sight so we can move on and prepare for the meetings that start next Sunday.

He wants the Dodgers. I bet they give them one chance to get in it then it would fall to the Giants. Whatever it may be time to move on.

Studies show an average second round pick has a 49% chance to play in major league baseball. Id say his career so far suggest he is in the other 51%, but maybe a change of scenery turns the light bulb on.
