Same type of trade as matt adams. Go get a high upside high bonus guy with power who is decently far away and might have the light turn on… But maybe had an off year.
If you make five of these trades and one works out you look like a genius. Individual trades could seem pretty stupid though.
I like the trend… But people are wondering what they’re thinking without looking at the bigger picture.
Here’s a hint. Yepez, O’Neill and now woodman. What do they all have in common.
Hint: talent and in most cases power.
All it takes is one of the three being a three or four time all star and the cards win those deals cumulatively… Hands down.
We are basically flipping average players for lottery tickets with high upside. Play enough and odds are you win.
It is also how you keep long term depth when youre going to start flipping outfielders.
There it is. It’s still visible on page one of this thread.
So now we are to believe it is only about dumping as much salary as possible and the prospects don’t matter as much. Lol someone is being feed a line of crap. We all know there had to be two deals presented that were acceptable or the club’s wouldn’t have been allowed to speak with Stanton’s reps.
I agree with BW. This was nothing more than roster pruning. I also agree that he was passed over within the system and his value was not going to improve much. I do wish him well on his fresh start in Canada.
362 ABs 157 Ks in 2017. Ouch.
If clears something like 2.5 million based on last year’s salary and a 40 man spot. That gives them a little more space to add another salary if they trade another player. Gonna be busy over the next two weeks.
It does clear another 40 man roster slot.
Well I give them credit for getting in the door. It’s really on him at this point. Give the best sales job you can. Hoping for the best.
Pads I’ve read other boards where some were speculating he was it. Not arguing anything you said before on this topic.
If he is in addition to Stanton then it’s different or if he is part of a larger deal as salary relief and lesser prospects in return as part of an Archer deal then fine. But him by himself as a MOTOB is not good and I think most know it.
He’s owed 86 million and is a declining oft injured 32 year old. No thank you as this would qualify as a bad contract they claim to want to avoid. This should upset everyone if this is what they do in place of Stanton. There would have to be another bat or two invloved in other deals to even consider it and even then I’m not sure the payroll can handle that. Again no thank you to EL.
I guess we will see if they are still alive but it sure send like they have fallen short whatever the reasons may be in the end. The other Marlins outfielders don’t move the needle for me. Good players no doubt but not the star we need like Stanton is.
Looking like second place yet again.
This Giants talk is only to get another offer from another team. It’s already rumored he has reservations about their depth. I think this is more to do with getting a team to commit to paying more of the salary that remains and give the prospects. 250 mil is the starting price plus three or four players. We will see shortly how this plays out but I’m not buying this Giants thing just yet.
I actually think all parties want to get this over quickly. There aren’t a bunch of teams involved. I hope and believe this could end very shortly. If some of the rumored players from St. Louis are involved I’m ok with it if some money comes back in the deal with Stanton.
Fowler LF
Pham CF
DeJong SS
Stanton RF
Gyorko 3B
Molina C
Piscotty or a trade/free agent pick up 1B
Wong 2B
PitcherSuper sub Carpenter
Just thinking out load on Piscotty at 1B.
Not a shock on Rosenthal.
Probably not lol.
Rangers have interviewed Lilliquist for the assistant pitching coach position.
The best baseball fans anywhere know the game and they know a substandard product. They will still show up but not in the numbers that a legitimate contender would generate. Bottom line they have to get something worth watching in the lineup. They have to go find a star or two to make it worth folks time to invest 3 hours a day during the spring, summer and early fall.
SO here are the teams that need pitching coaches:
Cubs
Cardinals
Indians
Rays
Mets
Nationals
Twins
Giants
Red Sox
RoyalsHave I missed any? There is some competition for the top guys and we don’t win those battles for players do we win it for coaches? The Cubs may have already beat them for the top choice.
And we have no 4 hitter, it’s arguable if we have a 5 hitter so we pretty much are missing a competitive middle of the order.
At first base you would gain a gold glove and a bat that profiles in the middle of the order. Carpenter is neither of those things.
Bccran I’ve like Hosmer as a target most of this year. I think he would be an excellent pick up. But that can’t be the only thing they do. They need a starter, at least 2 relievers, and probably another big MOTB to be competitive within the division much less the league. This roster needs remaking in a major way.
BW I hope they do what should have been done last off season. I pray i am wrong. I just don’t see a desire from this leadership group to take on the significant level money which a true star will cost. They seem content to go with their young guys (I’m fine with that to an extent) and add a vet here or there that is a notch or two or three below elite. We have had this same discussion the past two or three off seasons and I’m firmly in show me mode at this point. It’s time to use some of that powder. If they make a big move or two great and if not it will be much of the same this time next year.
BTW don’t they have all of that tv money kicking in this year? If so they can take an attendance hit and still make their money.
The base running on this team is freaking atrocious. Edit: And for the record I was speaking of Martinez trying to go 1st to 3rd with the ball in front of him. That fully it all worked out.
