Sounds as if the birds are still in the game. The next 48-72 hours will be interesting.

Any way we find out how the meeting went? Anybody have any inside scoop? Or we going to get the obligatory press release that things went okay, and both parties are still talking.

So now we are to believe it is only about dumping as much salary as possible and the prospects don’t matter as much. Lol someone is being feed a line of crap. We all know there had to be two deals presented that were acceptable or the club’s wouldn’t have been allowed to speak with Stanton’s reps.

Jon Heyman of Fan Rag sports is reporting that Stanton was in fact present at both meetings this past week.

There was an article on msn where the writer repeatedly quotes “sources” and such that say that there’s no chance that Stanton gets traded to St. Louis, who knows I wonder if he wants to win more than he wants to live on the west coast…

For the fourth week in a row Jim Bowden on MLB Front Office predicted Stanton to the Dodgers. This time though he said the Plan B would be the Giants. He doesn’t see him staying in Miami or going to St. Louis.

    Hey, don’t shoot the messenger.

He wants the Dodgers. I bet they give them one chance to get in it then it would fall to the Giants. Whatever it may be time to move on.

I know all about Jim Bowden. He now lives in Miami and he is well connected. He is also not the only “insider” saying this.

Not sure that the Dodgers have really shown any interest in him and they’re already paying fines for being over the salary limit and all, besides which if push comes to shove the Marlins can keep him for 3 more seasons, he can’t force them to trade him…

Latest from Morosi in three tweets. A reminder that Miami wants at least two horses in the race but Stanton holds the power.

Sources: #Marlins have agreed to general framework of Giancarlo Stanton trades with both #STLCards and #SFGiants; the deals are on hold, while Marlins wait for Stanton to inform them whether he’d accept either trade.

If Stanton had met with #SFGiants and #STLCards without trade framework already in existence, #Marlins would have risked losing leverage if Stanton agreed to move forward with one and not the other.

For #Marlins, agreement on Stanton trade frameworks with #SFGiants and #STLCards was logical precondition for Stanton to meet officials from both clubs last week.

    More from Mish:

Source : Cardinals offer to Marlins as I previously reported, is centered around P Sandy Alcantara. I’m now told STL has also offered more money than SF in their deal.

Well if true do they tell Stanton this is the deal they want and put the ball in his court or does it even matter. This has been one very winding road. Hope the end is in sight so we can move on and prepare for the meetings that start next Sunday.

No wonder we aren’t getting more push from the Marlins if it is just center d around more money and Sandy. I like Sandy a lot but he isn’t going to make anyone go out of their way to help us.

Centered around him seems to indicate anything else is a probably lesser in value. So unless it’s a huge haul of lesser prospects I can’t imagine our offer is as overwhelming

If tweet update is accurate & StL offered more cash than SF, then a trade centering around Alcántara could make sense.
The greater the cash to Miami the lesser the player package to Miami

Quite the soap opera. I love Alcantara, but am definitely willing to part with him in a deal for Stanton, depending on the other players involved. The Giants deal supposedly includes Joe Panik and their 2,3, and 4 prospects. According to the MLB.com article, it sounds like the Dodgers are Stanton’s first choice, which makes sense. They say he will decide between the Cards, Giants, or neither and wait to see if the Dodgers can put something together.

If it is up to Stanton, you would think the Giants would be his first choice based on geography. Then again, the Cardinals are probably in a better position to compete over the next three years, and maybe he comes here, then opts out. That actually might be the ideal scenario for us.

According to the PD,the Cardinals’ offer is better prospects AND taking on more money.
    Stanton is a Dodger fan.
If the Dodgers don’t offer Miami enough, that won’t (isn’t) an option for him.
Which would Stanton like playing closer to LA more than he would dislike playing for their archrival?

This is what I’ve been saying all along. If we don’t get him you really can’t blame the front office. We have pushed all of our chips in but he apparently doesn’t want to play here.

For a team that is almost always successful and has a great tradition and excellent fan support…the Cards sure do seem to have trouble selling a lot of guys on playing for them.

I feel like a lot of people are putting their own spin on this.

Secondly, IF we lose out, we are losing out to San Francisco, which is a great city and they have just as much recent success as we do, other than last year.

They don’t have a bad offense either if Belt, Crawford, and even Pence bounce back some. Cueto and Bumgardner are pretty elite too. Matt Moore will be back and Samardzija round out a decent rotation.

However SF might have to trade one or more of those guys Pads if they get Stanton…
