Donovan has slumped off a little here. Hopefully he can pick it back up

I look at tonight’s lineup and think on paper this should be quite a good team. Individually they’ve all got that winning feel. But they just haven’t been able to pull it together. Perhaps the moment has arrived and they will be inspired to whip up on these Reds and Pirates over the next few days. Rah Cardinals!

Din-din tonight was Hungarian goulash, Alsatian noodles, and carrots, with a strawberry sundae to tease the waistline.

We have to hope we get some good pitching tonight. Its precarious. But pitching won’t matter if we only get 2 or 3 hits.

We only get 3-4 hits, don’t score runs, etc, when they don’t show up ready to play. It was as obvious as could be down in Tampa. They were totally lackluster and lackadaisical. No intensity whatsoever.

They weren’t trying, that must be it.

jj-cf-stl…….did you see any of the games down in Tampa?

Anybody with a brain and a pair of eyes could see what a lackluster effort they gave. It was this type of crap from the players that resulted in Whitey Herzog resigning back in 1990.

Sorry players not trying isn’t going to cut it. Fact is with decent managing, we probably win one game, lose two. No shame in that to a team at their home that is just factually probably a better team than us.

You could always choose another team to follow. If they don’t care, in your opinion, why should you?

I’d be happy to suggest multiple different team sites you could go, and enjoy.

They had a bad, flat series. It happens. But it would be wise to be at their best against a weaker opponent in front of 35,000 wildly enthusiastic home fans.

The Doppler Radar now shows some possible rain and storms developing around the St. Louis area in the next couple of hours. This game could be delayed, at least at some point.

If it is delayed we can watch the Cubs and Yankees from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

Boy this team needs to win before this forum blows up……This team over the winter didn’t go get what was needed. The problem being needs in multiple places. Needs were in the Outfield, Shortstop, a Starter, and the Bullpen. Thanks to injury add the more problems to the Starting Rotation. Is still a decent team, with breaks and a blockbuster deal or two who knows. Donovan, Gorman, Yepez, are rookies. They are gonna have growing pains. We have an outfield of guys that have been here quite sometime now. They are just as inconsistent if not moreso as these rookies. They don’t have an excuse. I see the biggest problem as being a young manager that is a puppet. I fear as long as mo is in charge you won’t see much more than you see now.

The problem with the rookies is other than Donovan neither has a lot of upside if they aren’t hitting which they aren’t hitting right now. The other guys at least can make up for any hitting deficiencies with strong defensive play.

Pallante had a lot of loud contact vs righties his last outing. His splits are worth monitoring going forward.

Neil Pallante strikes out two of the first three Reds he faces. Drury with a one out single. Votto steps in….. let’s stay with the action shall we?

    Votto walks.

Farmer walks and Neil is getting squeezed like a roll of Charmin tissue on the low ones in the zone

Reynolds lines a shot to right….but fortunately it’s in the vicinity of the right fielder Dylan Carlson and he’ll catch it waist high to retire the side.

Bottom of 1. Luis Castillo pitching for the Redlegs this evening.

Edman flies out to Friedl in straightaway center field.

Gorman chops it right back to Castillo and he’ll fire it on over to Joey Votto at 1st base for the out.

Goldy walks…..and that last pitch looked like it caught the bottom portion of the zone….. refreshing in that it’s now apparent that Neil Pallante is not getting picked on by the home plate ump as he’s not giving anyone that low call.

Arenado dumps a short fly into right for a base hit….Goldy to 3rd…and Aquino’s throw to 1st base in an effort to find Arenado getting careless on the bases gets by Votto and in races Goldy to score. That’ll be a hit and an E-9. Arenado advances to 2nd base.

O’Neill bounces a roller in back of 3rd that Drury gloves and his throw to 1st skips on by Votto and in prances Arenado with the second Redbird run of the inning…..both of them nicely gift wrapped compliments of inaccurate Cincinnati throws. E-5

Donovan hit on the upper right thigh by an errant Castillo offering.

    Carlson strikes out swinging.

Castillo would look good with the Cards D behind him.

Strike 1: The talent we have just isn’t as good as the talent elsewhere. Don’t listen to the hype, look at the results. I don’t jump up and down like Dan does during the game as the team beefs up its stats playing weak teams. I pay attention to how the team plays against good teams. That’s the bar.

Strike 2: Trying to fill in the holes with failed contracts Mo gives out every year.

Strike 3: Mo is running the team from above.

Jeff and KsCardFan in the house…..sweet!

Pallante mows them down 1-2-3 in the 2nd inning…and he only had to exert 7 pitches of energy to accomplish the feat.

    Bottom of 2.

Bader pops out to Reynolds at 2nd base.

Knizner pops out to Votto in foul territory.

Edman drills a base hit to right field…. Aquino will gather it in on 2 hops and quickly fire it back into the infield.

Gorman pops out to the 3rd baseman Drury in foul territory about halfway between home plate and 3rd base.

Yeah Friday nights are generally deadsville on these game threads. Well, we have two of our finest posters onboard tonight in the person of KsCardFan & Jeff. Anyone else amongst the living out there?

Oh oh….one out consecutive base hits by Pham and Votto have the Reds thinking enthusiastically here in the top of the 3rd inning….. let’s stay with things shall we?

Farmer bounces it out to Edman at short where he’ll shuffle it to Donovan at 2nd for one and his throw to 1st……will get him! Donovan’s throw was wide left, but Goldy stretched out like a gazelle to snatch it, all the while keeping his foot on the bag for the out.

A big problem I see coming up the second half this season is behind the plate. Herrera needs to be seeing a a lot of regular ab’s if he is gonna be the heir apparent. Yadi’s days will be winding down and you know he is going to want in that lineup. Fan’s at the game are gonna expect it. Where will that leave Knizner? Memphis? I don’t see that happening. I started the year thinking Albert will step down at the Allstar break. Don’t see that happening now. At what point does what’s best for the Team itself become the priority? Gonna be interesting.
