With 2 leftys already in rotation, I agree with 1td. He is better off honing his craft where he is, and stays ready to come up when needed.. or if Cabby reverts back to his 2022 form, then bring LIbby up into the pen.

1 or 2 starts does not make him ready. He is looking better, but still needs more innings in aaa.
Give him another 5-6 starts and then re-evaluate; and he may then be needed with the team.

Burleson is the slowest, worst outfielder in the league. All other outfielders catch that ball. Should be a 1-1 game.
Wood has pitched pretty well this game

Ya’ll need to relax. You can’t judge the rotation on one outing. I think once the rotation goes around 3-4 times you evaluate. Once is like judging a hitter for one game who goes 0-4.

1tough. totally agree with you. it is indeed on Woodford. He has to understand that its his game, not the catchers game… he is responsible for the runs, nobody else. I do believe he has learned this and we will see much better from him. I’m sure part of the problem was having Molina back there so long, pitchers would rarely shake him off, as he was one of the best at calling games.!! we will see.
I do think Woody will get it together. !

Anybody have any info on how Woody did on the back fields today?

I think with the new CBA, the max number of times per season optioned is 5.

They probably need to keep DeJong as a backup ss. Edman is set there now, but Winn needs some experience in AAA.. He has had a good spring, but just a bit of seasoning to get him ready, maybe after all star break. Nolan, Winn, Edman, Paul… That is a a very good infield.!!
On Woody… just commit to him on the 26 man already… He has flat out been the best pitching in camp.

Cardsfan552 is correct. Plenty of pitchers ready or near ready in aaa. Sending Woody back there is a slap in the face, when he has been pitcher so well. I think Hudson has an option as well… not sure about the others. If a pitcher, regardless of option status, is the best choice to help the club win then he should be with the club, period.

If this kid isn’t on the 26 man to break camp then there is a real problem with the FO and Mgr.!!!

    Starter Lineup 1.
    Miles
    Jordan
    Steve
    Jack
    Adam.

    OR Lineup 2.
    Miles
    Jordan
    Steve
    Jake
    Dakota

If the FO pays attention to ST, then 2 is a viable option. If Hudson has figured things out..?

Woody hung one bad pitch and it was golfed out for a hr.
    But, looked very solid.
    3 inngs
    1 hit
    1 run
    1 walk
    5 K’s

Anyone know if they released who else is pitching Saturday beside these two.?
    They will cover 4-5 innings.

Heading to the game tomorrow, looking forward to seeing Waino and Woody pitch a couple innings each.
Waino has been messing around with his sinker, and I’m told Woody has his slider staying in the zone longer and then biting; I guess ask Carlson. ha. Again, haven’t seen it, all heresay.

Actually, lets just hope he gets through Spring Training..! and go from there.
As we all know, a shoulder is very tricky to get healthy.

I just don’t see Liberatore as a solid part of the rotation… He fits better as a #5 guys, or long relief.
Watching him pitch the last few years, he just doesn’t strike me as a confident pitcher and his stuff really needs alot more work in AAA. Command is a big issue. Not only him, but Cabrera and Hudson as well.
Of these guys, Woodford should be the first guy to get some starts and or be long relief. His stuff plays very well and his command, if it stays the same as last season, no reason it shouldn’t, has been very good.

Cardsfan. Your assessment is spot on, however the FO and Mgt will not admit to the contract mistakes they keep on making year after year. This is unfortunate for the younger guys who are performing.
I think Katie is probably thinking the same way, and her list includes this thought which seems to be well known by Cards fans. While its nice to have depth, the depth (AAA), should not be the guys who pitched very well last season. This is not how you reward a pitcher for doing his job; yet the guys that are on the list pitched very poorly last year.
(For the sake of the team I hope the FO admits the bad contracts and lets the guys who are pitching better, pitch.)

bccran. I think you nailed it with your last 2 posts. Woodford and Thompson need to have much bigger roles out of camp. Libby needs more work in AAA with Walker and Gorman. Carlson must stay healthy along with Jack, if they don’t they are a liability.
Hudson…..I just don’t have anything here..??

Don’t give to Waino, just ’cause.
If he hasn’t figured out his phantom mechanical issues, then he shouldn’t start.
But, if he does will in the WBC and in any limited ST games then sure, he deserves it.!

I think the opening day starter should be determined during ST. probably come down to these 3:
    Waino
    Miles
    Monty

Bling & 552, I am totally in agreement with you guys. The Woodford saga dates back to 2021, I dug up these old Bernie Mac articles… they seem to repeat! and not in a good way. FO and Mgmt need to either Sh…
or get off the pot with him.

    Looks good 552.
But as it has been documented before, pitching can only take the team so far; we have to be able to hit the ball and/or manufacture some runs. Last playoffs we fell flat and did not hit. We really haven’t picked up any additional bats this off season.. the catching position can hold its own, but not much of an upgrade offensively. Specifically, the outfield has fallen flat, we need better than this:
    Carlson – .236
    O’Neil – .228
    Nootbar – .228
    Burlson – .188
Our best outfielder Bader, .256, traded. This hurt more than most think.
