Most are probably aware of this, but I just happened to notice that Walker’s 1 for 24 with 8 K’s when facing LHP’ing. Looks like even Brett Cecil could get him out…

Not to worry TD, he hit Texas League lefties just fine. Fit him for a red jacket.

Haha!…Well, that’s good to know, Bling. In so far as RH’ed hitters facing LH’ed pitchers, my solitary claim to fame as a genuine clairvoyant came during game 5 of the ’06 NLCS. Pujols facing Glavine who had blanked the Redbirds in game 1. I saw the predatory look in Albert’s eyes as he stepped into the box and told my son, “Pujols is going to tater-up right here”…He uncoiled and the baseball left the playing field in a manner in which the trajectory seemed like it had no arc to it. It went out in a hurry. Glavine IBB’ed him in his next PA…Haha!

I saw this earlier today on the mlb.cardinals site:
“The Cardinals are planning to unveil their Opening Day roster on Sunday morning, . . .”

The same article also claims both Packy Naughton and Taylor Motter will have their names on the 26 man. I’m surprised Packy made it and Bling mentioned that he thought Motter had a decent chance to be in St. Louis for the opener. I would have never thought Motter had a chance even if his first name were Manny…

I’m no different than the next guy in the sense that I’d like nothing more than to see Walker in the opening day line-up with the chance of rousing the home crowd with some Big League baseball heroics in his debut, but realistically, I’d rather he make is first couple of starts in LF while the team were on the road. Not only to allow him get accustomed to his surroundings, but also to bleed off some of the pressure to perform.

I can only speak for myself, but I’ll take Cabrera over Packy. I guess the Redbirds think a guy who’s 0-6 with a career 5.43 ERA is valuable to have on the 26 man in the event they need a LHP’er who can make a spot start.

Yeah, LA, but they don’t need a SS.

Reminder that today’s game at the Astros is two hours early. In fact, it just started. No TV, just radio.

Flaherty pitched like crap. Not a good sign for him heading into the season.

Between Jack, Hudson, Libby and Pallante, we should be able to come up with a guy who can pitch. Eventually, Wainwright will be back, for better or worse.

Looks like Packy had a melt down.

Anybody have any info on how Woody did on the back fields today?

I wonder if Flaherty has an injured shoulder but is not telling them?

24-1, hmmm. My working theory is Ollie picked up a van load of guys from labor ready on the way to the game. “OK, find a jersey that fits and follow me.” I mean, did anybody look close?

    Flaherty was really disappointing.

Nothing to get spun up about. The Cardinals didn’t have any members of their everyday line-up in the order or this one would have been a lot closer…With a little run support, Jacky and Packy wouldn’t have had to work through so many stressful situations.

Sorry to disagree. I am a big Jack fan but this clunker on his last spring start is extremely disappointing.

I’m not entirely certain about the 24 runs, which were all earned, but even 100 W teams are on the wrong end of at least 2 or 3 games similar to this one during the long and arduous voyage to 162. I’m always a little amused when mass hysteria seems to afflict the populous after a game like this. Some even go so far as to use it as a good excuse to drink themselves into a self-induced coma…

Sure, it’s a bit disappointing, Oliver, but no one in the line-up produced any runs for him to work with…
