This year’s MLB.tv price is close to (a shade under) the combined price of adding MiLB.tv to MLB.tv last year. So it’s like they are forcing you to buy MiLB.tv this year with a small discount. Pretty sure it’ll all work with Roku.

Also, for students and military (vets included), don’t forget that you can take a 35% discount off the subscription price.

FWIW…..MLB.tv is going to be live from Strat-O-Matic Headquarters for Opening Day this Friday, 17 February. Opening Day is when the brand new baseball products are first available to the public. This year it’s 2022 obviously as well as the new re-released 1976 season. And their Diamond Gems teams from the 1940s, which includes the ’46 Cardinals.

Maybe, but until now, MiLB.TV was NOT supported on Roku and other devices because the video quality was too low. At least that is what I recall the explanation to have been.

There used to be a $10 early discount for anyone who signed up early for MLB.TV, but it is missing this year.

Okay, gotcha. I have a Roku on one TV, but never use that TV to watch games. To explain my earlier comment, because of your Roku concern, I clicked on the “list of features” with the current offer and saw some exceptions identified, such as pitch-by-pitch tracking available only on iPads. Didn’t see any exception listed for Roku on MiLB so was guessing Roku users would be okay.

Here’s another point for people who are concerned they might not be satisfied with MLB.tv. You have a trial period where you can cancel at no cost. I did that one year because I decided to go with Extra Innings through Verizon Fios instead. It was easy to cancel MLB.tv online.

Brian, just curious — how do you watch MiLB games? Phone, tablet, smart TV, etc.?

Usually laptop. But also cast from phone to smart TV. Rarely on phone itself. Bigger the screen the better. I always subscribe to both MLB.TV and MiLB.TV.

Okay, I was going to suggest casting to TV if you like it there, so good that works for you. Another option is to load the game on a web TV browser. Sometimes you can get a good/better view that way.

But since you are watching on a smart TV anyway, that leads me to another question. Will your smart TV not host the app (First Pitch I think is what I read) necessary to watch MiLB, allowing you to take Roku out of the equation?

I watch on a Sony (android TV OS), so not sure if it does. I looked for At Bat and First Pitch apps tonight, but did not find them. Not sure if they’re embedded in the MLB app, but I never noticed them before. The MLB app works great for the Cards games, but since I’ll have MiLB this year, I will also be trying to find a good way to tune into those games.

Man alive…I guess I’m just intimdated by all these seemingly countless high tech ways to watch a simple ballgame on TV to the point of almost longing for the days in which all I had to worry about was waiting to tune in to the Saturday Game of the Week…Roku, Apps, Fios, Ipads, Telephones, Androids OS. It’s enough to give a woodpecker a headache…Haha!

Ahh, those were the days. Just had to spin the antenna in the right direction. Dad usually was working, it was Mom’s day out to shop and get her hair done, so Grandmother spent the day with my brother and me. She’s been been gone for nearly 40 years, but I’ll always remember her watching the games with me and she always rooted for whichever team I rooted for.

Yep, that’s the way to go if you only watch Cards’ games. It’s probably what I should do, cause now that I’m retired I often end up watching a West coast game after the Cards are done.

    Euro asked:

My smart TV is Roku-based, so that support will almost certainly be required for the First Pitch app, which is the one they are saying is needed for MiLB. And it hasn’t been just Roku. I am not aware of any smart TVs and streaming devices that MiLB supported previously. I also have an Amazon Fire Stick and it is the same situation. The MLB device support was current. MiLB was not. And that was the rub for me.

Due to the cost increase and my decrease in interest of watching entire games, I’m not sure if I’ll buy up MLB.tv this year. My gf’s family has T Mobile though…anyone know if they have the promo subscription again this year? If so, perhaps I’d sign up through that.

Thanks for the dialogue. What you said is consistent with me not finding First Pitch on the app store for my Sony. And lol at me last night going down the same holes as you described, i.e., I also have a fire stick and roku device and couldn’t find the app for either one.

I just received my MLB.TV renewal notice email today. My card will be hit for $149.99 on March 14. If you aren’t planning to renew, make sure you take action ahead of time.

Probably not applicable to many, but I’ll throw this out there because the student discount for MLB.tv is significant. I’ve always kept account and login credentials at a couple of universities because it seemed like I was forever taking some kind of course for certification or professional development. That was good enough to get discounts and even free access to some Microsoft products, even while enrolled in just one course. Not sure if this would be the same for the MLB discount, but could be worth looking into if any of this applies for you this year or future years.

I am assuming that in order to watch the Cardinals on MLB.TV you have to live far enough away from St. Louis not to have to deal with the blackouts. Otherwise it is Bally or bust.

Yep, that’s a given…….or that VPN thingy. Thankfully I don’t have to deal with blackouts except when the Cards play the O’s or Nats. Even then I can watch on MASN.
