With one out in the 3rd, Yelich promptly cranks on over the right field wall to give the Crew a 2-0 advantage. Can anybody beat these guys!!!
Supposedly this Saladino fellow comes from a long line of cooks. You wonder if any of them have the nickname “Chef”? On 3-0, Carpenter lays a bunt down into nowhere land (3rd base) and he could crawl backwards safely into 1st due to the defensive shift being deployed….sweet! A lot of empty seats here today which is amazing considering the high quality of play from their team. If I so say so myself, Wisconsin sports fans are great ones. Not necessarily from a knowledge aspect, but more from a fanatical one. Sort of like Cleveland fans. Cards go down meekly in the 1st. Our arms better be ready in this series as these Brewers have been rocking the opposition with big inning after big inning. I really wanted to see “Flair”erty in this series….but I’ll “settle” for Reyes.
This upstart Milwaukee squad has notions to use this series as a springboard to run away and hide from St. Louis and Chicago in the contentious NL Central. And without Yadi, they have me very worried. We also get another glimpse at the guy we could have had in the off season deal with Miami. Take note of all of the “little” things that Yelich does to aid his club. I’ll be in attendance both tomorrow and on Wednesday for The Reyes Game, but today you guys have me…….hook, line and hopefully a formidable Weaver sinker.
I’m far from an expert, as all of you long time Birdhouse/Cardinal Nationers know, but O’Neill strikes me as a batter who is much more in sync at the plate than Grichuk. I think the kid is going to be a pretty consistent hitter as soon as the back-n-forth adjustments simmer down a bit. Even though DeJong and Jose Martinez hold great promise, our organization, post Kissell, really hasn’t produced a barrage of decent offensive threats….to say the least.
As expected, a banner day (4-1 including the big club)throughout the Redbird system. The only hiccup being QC getting bombarded in Game 1 of a twin Bill. Primo observation by the esteemed Sooner regarding Hudson. Any and every ML organization not named the Astros have to be drooling like a Bloodhound at the plethora of young Cardinal pitching. We saw just two of them yesterday in the person of Dak Hudson and Chris “The Pelican” Ellis. Leading up to yesterday’s start, you just knew The Pelican was on the precipice of soaring to new heights. How would you like to be in this group of young talented hurlers and having to look up at the Flahertys and Reyes’ of the world? It would be akin to a 6’4″ high school phenom center going to his first day of collegiate practice and seeing all of these 6’10 slam dunking freaks of nature flying all over the court having a field day. That’s all cub fans can talk of these days is what they think is a certainty….the acquisition of Machado. As far as they are concerned it’s a done deal and just a matter of time. I for one an sick and tired of that organization raiding our team…. guys like Marquis, Jay, Jimmy Ballgame and Lackey, just to name a few. And who do we get from them….Fowler! Well that’s Mo’s fault I guess, but you get the point. It’s about time Mo started doing his job by keeping in mind what should be a top priority for a person in his position…..doing whatever he can to stick it to his arch rivals. I believe Theo understands this basic concept, but I’m not sure Mo does. Mo has more trading chips at his disposal than Theo does, thanks to his healthy batch of young farmhands. Baltimore would have to be chomping at the bit to lessen Mo’s load a titch in this coveted department. Unfortunately we can’t realistically keep them all. 25 year old players the caliber of Machado do not become available very often. Could you picture him in a Cards uniform! Manny would look much better in red than in blue anyway……but only if we can lock him up for a few years. Make it happen, Mo!!
Peoria getting peppered in the 4th 11-0 and Palm Beach postponed due to wet weather, so Pez will have to wait anither day to commence his hitting rampage.
Or cubbies uni now too, Cardinals27. No way we lose today’s game, as I know the entire lineup except for maybe Munoz, has heard of Trevor Williams. If I’m Pittsburgh, I plan some tomfoolery so to get a distinct advantage today over our boys. Maybe slap a fake beard on Williams….have him talk in a southern drawl…have their PA announcer refer to him as Travis instead of Trevor….have him take about 10 mph off his fastball….that could screw our hitters all up.
Just a quick aside. Next year at this time, barring injury, how do you line your starters up when they all most likely will be classified as #1’s….maybe a #2 or two at worst? Alphabetical order?

Jags may have hit the nail on the head with his psychological concerns. Every pitcher has X amount of miles until their arm no longer can efficiently get ML batters out. Holland’s miles may have simply been maxed out last August. If so, you can’t get them back, so you have no choice but to eat the cash and cut him loose.
Love the matchups. Should be a big day system wide…..I’m thinking 4-5. The only question mark of course being who will be dealing for our Chiefs in Game 2 of their twin bill vs that upstart Quad Cities squad from our former Birds satellite. Depending on who gets the assignment, that 4-5 could downgrade to a 3-5. Look for a HUGE day out of Yuan “Pez” Yepez out of Palm Beach and a sparkling mound performance from Chris “The Pelican” Ellis.
Nicely said, GACard! You need to post more often….especially on our sometimes wildly amusing sometimes extremely dull game threads. Look at Boston. They pulled the trigger on eating about 15 Mil on Hanley Ramirez’ contract by showing him the door. I’d kill to have his numbers this year over Fowler’s and yet Fowler is still being showcased by our Birds….heck, he even hits leadoff at times. William Dexter Fowler….. can picture his statue being erected now!

Childs play for Mr. Reyes, Cardinals27…..childs play. How Alex must be feeling….young…throngs of fans of all ages adoring your every step….your employer treating you like gold….a girl in every port if that is your desire…..a few bucks in your pocket…..seeing all the great cities. In one’s lifetime, EVERY guy should be able to experience what Alex Reyes is experiencing, if only for a day. And EVERY girl should be able to be treated like a princess like Megan did in England last saturday, again, if only for a day.
It could have been worse…. at least Sleeping Beauty didn’t take a knee during the Anthem. I say let bygones be bygones. Marcell is most likely trying anything he can think of to snap out of his slump. Somebody probably gave him some bad advice ( wouldn’t be surprised if it was Fowler or Holland ) about getting enough sleep and he overdid it on the Nyquil. We’ll forget all about this little siesta episode if he starts whacking the ball.
Thanks 14Nyquist!! We two may stand alone around here in what tickles our funnybone. I didn’t think my Holland ribbing was too obtuse. As kind of a rule, I don’t write or say anything about another that I wouldn’t say to their face. Tell you what…..if I were to cross paths with Dexter right now, I would have no problem walking right up to him and sternly looking him smack dab right in the eyes…………..and then asking him how his family is doing. Speaking of Holland, you have to respect the guy after last night. The emotional demeanor demonstrated that he really does care…..and unfortunately that’s not always a given these days.
Very touching indeed. I read on another site where one of those professional lip readers reported that in this eye watering scene, Willie was indeed very consoling to the distraught Holland and was trying to lift his spirits by telling him that he thought Greg had a real future as an outfielder just like he used to be. Willie went on by reasserting Holland that with the way Fowler was playing that his shot would be coming sooner rather than later. The extended video footage in this sequence then shows Willie, with his right arm still wrapped around Holland’s shoulder, pointing at a sobbing Fowler sitting by himself at the very end of the bench, with his left arm….and both having a good laugh. Very very touching indeed.
That second pitch to Munoz was like a half foot high and it was called a strike….but now he has another hit to his credit….this one of the infield variety and it’s 1st and 2nd with no outs. Munoz 4-4. Ah if not for giving up those runs in the top half of this frame.
I don’t know what Holland did in the off season this past year, but it must have been an absolute blast. Before shelling out 14 Mil to a guy, these are the things your team have to have done….and most likely the Cards did not. Investigate investigate investigate……before investing!
Oh Oh! Holland has put Royals on all 3 bases without securing a single out. Jon Jay up……Jay plates 2 and this one is over! I hate getting on our players, but Holland and Fowler have been so darn awful for so darn long…….that the time has come to do something. What I don’t know, but Mo & Co. have to act in some reasonable action.
