The luxury tax seems to be standing in the way of that. Afterall they did sign Daniel Descalso last off season.
I jus calls em as I sees em. But I realize that others may see different. Jed’s error rate last season was pretty high – higher than even JMart and his bat did not match his initial year with the Cards. Plus he seems to have gimpy legs. Youth is the name of the game and Munoz can fill in amply with the same average defense and a better bat plus more infielders are cooking in the minors. You can’t just sit Jed on the bench and hope he improves. Right now I am seeing Munoz and Robinson as the players who will fill in for the infield as needed this season. Jed has done time at all positions but, again, youth is in the air (and it works cheaper…lol)
Will Jedi Jed be on the block soon? 1 hit as a starter (one game) and 0-9 as a PH. I think Munoz might be able to back up Carp as well as Jed – none are bastions of great defense. Have to laugh at Danny Mac comments on Jed every time he comes to bat: “If he sees a fast ball it will be hit hard.” uh huh chuckling.
Isn’t is funny that the only pitcher who seems to be able to make it 6 innings consistently is Waino – the old guy? I think he could have gone 7 yesterday had his spot not came up to bat with a runner on. Using him to bunt didn’t seem to make much sense either.
The home runs don’t concern me much because it was the Brewers mashers who did most of them and you won’t find many teams with that many guys who can hit even good pitches out of the park or many home run heavens like Miller Park. Seems the walks have been much reduced as of late also. Waino had only one yesterday despite not nibbling very close at times.
Bad event in Springfield. Some nut job threw rocks at both of the Amarillo team buses and broke windshields on both but, thankfully, they got replaced before the series ended. Police caught the vandal who said he dislikes the San Diego Padres, the MLB team of the Amarillo Sod Poodles (still want to find out the origin of that name).
Gregerson doing well but how long can they keep him in the minors. I think the main problem is they don’t want to replace anybody on the Cardinals MLB pen at this time – seems like Miller could use a little tuneup time but that will never happen.
And then there’s Rosenthal. Thankfully Mo passed on his reincarnation.

It would be a nice gesture if the New York umpire guys could just come out and admit a mistake was made and that it did not affect the eventual outcome of the game. You don’t see dust fly up on balls hitting on solid grass. Instead of hurting their reputation it may help it to admit a mistake. But I don’t foresee that happening.
Afterall their reputation could need a little help after the Kulpa/Astros fiasco.
WOW did Jen Langosh even attend that game? Just a lame story all about Ponce as if he were a hero and winner of the game. No mention at all of the key plays. I see why MLB has taken away the comment boards.
Very enjoyable game made more so by the Cards ability to come from behind and even add on. Has anybody figured out what happened on that Molina faux pas at 3B? So today it’s “Which Waino will show up.” Looks to be cool and rainy so that does not bode well but the BP has not been overworked. Probably see Wieters start today as well as Bader. Jose hits the bench again….grrrr.
I am with you on Carlson but it appears that Lane Thomas is making a strong pitch for some playing time with the show.
Not to worry. Enough crow to feed the masses at the end of the season. Personally my own discomfort is with Superstar Carpenter but if he keeps hitting those doubles to Braun I will be content. He will soon be able to have a #1 tattooed on his arm to indicate his permanent batting position.
I think a lot of Dex’s comments from last season were the result of pure frustration. A lot was expected of him and little was delivered. The entire fan base and even the management was down on him. I don’t think his comments were any worse than what Pham did and he seems to have a lot of supporters that blame the FO for his leaving. In my view it was good riddance – you can only have one team – the Cardinals – and not room for Team Pham. But that is history so why digress.
You can take the Brewers out of their dome home but dem rascals keep bringing their dingers with them. I have always thought that the Brewers could be a WS winning team if they had any decent pitching. It is quickly becoming obvious that pitching is their achilles heel. So while they mash the opponent bloops, blaps and even does some mashing of their own.
I just love reading back in this thread. Now I have to go warm up the crow. How do you fellows like yours – rare or well done? Now it is time to choose a new victim to put on the spit.
I don’t see him going this season at all. The story was that they could not get anything of value from AL teams in an off season trade so they decided to give him a two year 2+million contract and I can see them keeping him at least that long. Very cheap price for a good hitter and if he tails off in BA not much is lost. He is also a case of high fan likes as well as teammates. I am convinced he is an ADD case but, in this position, that only helps the team.

Easy to say but impossible to prove. Both Bader and ONeil missed such balls in their last game before injury.
I would doubt that Martinez defense has cost us more runs than he has brought – and probably never will. The man has played OF his entire career and, despite the knocks he takes from posters citing the company line of how evil he is, the just continues to help the team win games. If a player wears the birds on the bat I support them but I understand some are better than others at their craft. I have seen nothing from ONeil other than a big bat at times (but not often enough). I think we have a decent OF no matter who is playing.The Sod Poodles are a coming. Yep, the Amarillo Sod Poodles, new to the Texas League this season, are coming to Springfield today so maybe the Cardinals get get back to winning ways. That Sod Poodle nickname must have quite a story behind it. Sounds like something voted on by the public.
Brian, I guess we all have our opinions but at this time even with Bader and ONeil off the IL I would prefer to see Martinez play more than just off the bench. You can have your WAR but as I am crowding 80 years of age I am not one who takes to the “new age” stats. Afterall it is the same game but now the younger crowd has found new ways to detract from the enjoyment of just watching it for entertainment. That may be a bit too harsh but the computer age (in my view) is leading to a change in how the game is viewed by younger fans. As far as I am concerned I could be very happy with NO stats shown on the screen because what they seem to do is condition the viewers thinking of what will happen. BTW. I am one who will take JMarts singles, doubles and occasional home runs to ONeil’s strikeouts. Jose has always been an outfielder in the minors. His time at 1B last season was an attempt to get him a new position to allow him to play more but Mr Carpenter the Superstar (who is just as bad defensively) has dibs on starting. Anyway, I enjoy the game as it was when I played it and the game itself is pretty much the same. It is the geeks and sabremetrics that is changing how it is viewed. That is not an insult to anybody – we all have different takes on the game but WAR is something to laugh at for me. Happy Easter to all.
Cardinal in France. When it comes to stats we are birds of the same feather. But even some of the so called ‘conventional stats’ are very misleading. A pitchers won/loss record is a prime example. He can throw 4 2/3 innings and get pulled. He can get the loss but not the win. The next guy can throw one pitch and get the win. Just seems to be wrong. An quality starts – an agents invention – don’t get me started on those.
