I hope you are right but Darvish is the only of the five that has had recent injury problems. Hamels has had some issues but was pretty strong last year.

However, there are reasons for concern all over the place. He induced hitters to swing at a career-low 26.0 percent of pitches outside the strike zone (down from 32.5 percent in 2017), his swinging strike rate (8.5 percent) and strikeout rate (19.6 percent) were his lowest marks since 2013 (down from 10.9 percent and 23.6 percent in 2017, respectively), his ground ball rate (37.7 percent) was his lowest since 2008 (down from 46.2 percent in 2017), and his walk rate (8.4 percent) was his highest since 2011 (up from 7.9 percent in 2017).
Last weekend, I saw Lester give up a three-run homer to Travis Shaw. The Cubs park has no public radar gun display, but we know Lester isn’t a high-velocity guy at this point, anyway.
Yeah, he’s the classic crafty lefty. The peripherals are a concern. Here’s hoping he becomes ineffective now. The Cubs are due for at least one.

Just have to point out that the Cubs are 1-5. :o)
Obviously it is way too early to write them off as they won’t play there first home game until next week but it has been fun to watch so far. Their offense appears to still be very potent but their pitching and defense have been atrocious.
It wouldn’t bother me to see them get kicked around this weekend by Yelich and Company.
By night’s end the Red Sox and the cubbies are going to have a combined record of 3-13. I know it’s early, but it still doesn’t get much sweeter than that. I just don’t get the Sox…..absolutely unbeatable in a series just a scant few months ago…..now they look horrendous. What happened?
I don’t know about the Red Sox but the Cubs pitching staff is a complete dumpster fire right now. Maddon may not make it to June. I’m sure Theo is begging ownership to give him the green light to sign Kimbrel.

Well we all knew the Cubs wouldn’t stay down forever. Their lineup can still be devastating but I’m still not convinced they have enough pitching depth. They are probably the most logical landing spot for Kimbrel if Theo can convince the Ricketts’ to write the check.
The luxury tax seems to be standing in the way of that. Afterall they did sign Daniel Descalso last off season.
The Cubs have another potential distraction as the Cards come to town – what to do with Addison Russell as he comes off suspension.
For any of you that saw the silliness in the Cubs-Nats 9th inning last night, here is a quote from Doolittle.
Doolittle, who retired the side in order, thought Maddon had a different motive.
“I don’t know, sometimes he has to remind people how smart he is and how much he pays attention to the game and stuff like that,” Doolittle said. “He put his stamp on it for sure.”
The umpires saw nothing wrong with Doolittle’s delivery.Gamesmanship at it’s finest in my opinion.

Please allow me to preface this by saying the cubbies still royally blow. But……I will always have a soft spot for Albert Almora for demonstrating the emotions that he did last night after whacking that little 4 year old girl on the head with a blistering foul ball. Too many of these guys barely take the time to follow their missiles that they launch into the seats. Almora followed his liner with the same intensity of a bald eagle sizing up a mouse milling thru the thicket from 50 yards away. Then came the agony of his unintentional deed. After witnessing this, one could have little doubt as to what a class act that Albert Almora is. As I was viewing this, I was thinking Almora was going to hop into those stands and accompany this little girl and her family all of the way to the hospital…..forget the ballgame! I’ll tell you what….If I owned the Houston Astros, late last night I would have instructed my GM to get Albert Almora into an Astro uniform via trade within 2 days, even if we had to overpay for his services.
