ParticipantWith Helsley already in STL and Ponce missing his AAA start so that the MEM rotation is a bit disheveled. Reyes could be the guy to right the course and firm up the starting five by taking Helsley’s spot. Cabrera has been so-so in his two starts and could use a solid outing big time.
DellaValle has improve in each of his three outings. Let’s see if that continues this evening. Oh wait, his last game earned him a Game Score of 81, an 8inn shut down on the road in Lakeland that was lost by the bullpen 1-0. Tough to beat that performance.
April 23, 2019 at 1:56 pm #88532Tyler O’Neill is expected to join the @Sgf_Cardinals on a rehab assignment tonight. He has been out since April 16 with a right elbow ulnar nerve subluxation. #STLCards

No. Munoz, Webb, Leone, Robinson.
Brebbia has two options remaining.
April 23, 2019 at 4:18 pm #88555Peoria was shut out on a one-hitter today, losing 8-0. Now 6-12 on the season.
April 24, 2019 at 1:02 am #88609Small silver lining to the Peoria defeat: catcher Ivan Herrera made his 12th start behind the plate, and remained without a passed ball on the season.
This isn’t completely inconsequential, as Ivan had a prohibitive 7 PB’s in just 20 games last year. Herrera was just 17, but still. That’s too many.Young backstops frequently have troubles with passed balls, but one every three games…well, Carlton Fisk had one every three games in the Midwest League over 50 years ago, and that’s the only other guy that bad off the top of my head. (For an eventual great catcher, I mean.)
Mr. Bench was kind of notorious for struggling with PB’s as a youngster, and at age 18 in A-ball he had a PB once every six games. Yadi at 18 played in rookieball, and boxed a pitch once every five games.
So I’m impressed with Ivan so far. And the .972 OPS doesn’t hurt either.Lastly, I loved the young man’s comments, quoted in the TCN Prospect Handbook, about growing as a player and a person. He sounds unusually mature, both emotionally and intellectually. Reminded me of the Carson Kelly quotes I used to read a few years back. Herrera has his head screwed on right.

April 24, 2019 at 8:19 am #88620The #stlcards minors went 1-2 on Tuesday behind a ninth-inning rally by red-hot Palm Beach. Our Player of the Day is PB RP C.J. Saylor, who picked up the win by fanning all six batters faced. In losses, the Springfield and Peoria staffs yielded 17 runs. https://t.co/DpJ8oXorKG pic.twitter.com/YOq6uVGRwA
