I think we would be smart to leave Donovan right where he is on defense and in the lineup when Noot and others start coming back.

If our highly paid veterans pick it up, and we aquire a solid sp and relief help at the deadline, we will roll right past the blowers. We have been winning without any help from those guys. I’m impressed with the young guys who have been getting it done on offense, and the old guys chucking it up to the plate.
I can’t find the exact numbers, but you can only extend Goldy for a certain % pay cut . If you want him any cheaper,you have to let him go to free agency first. I found it. You can’t reduce his salary by more than 20%. So if he’s making 25mil, you have to extend him at 20. That’s about 2x too much to pay him. So if you want him for 10 it has to be a fa contract.
Arenado is just below league-average with the bat. Meanwhile Goldschmidt is well below-average. Playing 3B, Arenado is still an above-average player.
30 million $ a year. And you are getting a severely diminished player. At least Goldy still plays pretty solid defense. At some point if Arenado doesn’t trend upward, we will have better players sitting on the bench. That’s when it really starts hurting. If Walker were to have a nice surge and return along with Tommy and Noot, that time will be here. But we all know the contract is going to play.

That’s pretty close to my thinking. Nootbar belongs in the second disappointment tier. And I would swap Carlson and Matz. But that’s me nit picking. Nice job.
Our offense is 27/30 in runs scored. Do I need to say anything else? Any kind of downward trend in the pitching and we are sunk.
