Burleson makes better reads. But Walker’s speed helps to make him overall average. They both have good arms. At this point, I’d say Walker is better. But just by a little. However, he’s likely to improve. Burleson is more likely to decline.

Jnevel, “Burleson is more likely to decline”. Burleson is at least as good of a defensive corner outfielder as Holliday and Ozuna were. And Burleson has a very good arm. Plus, Burly could just be “scratching the surface” into his pure talent as a hitter. Let’s hope that can be said regarding Walker, fairly soon. It looks to me like Burleson is hitting his way into the regular 1B job next season. So him being in RF may be a moot subject next season.

I don’t view payroll as a per position endeavour. I view it as how much does it cost for 26 active players and the 40 man callups. There is really only one payroll. The Cardinal payroll would not result in $25M in savings by going from Goldy to Burly because Gray is getting a $15M increase and Edman is getting a $2.5M increase, plus all of the arbitration increases. You have to view it in the aggregate.

And Arenado’s contract is not tradeable without eating a significant portion. The Cardinals aren’t doing that.

I cannot believe they have this inept of an offensive team and they have not gone after 1 bat to try and improve it

You do realize almost nearly every team is in contention don’t you? Almost everyone is still weighing what their playoff odds are and what they’ve got.

I mean who would you realistically go after that’s not going to pillage the farm system or cost a ton of money? I can tell you right now that positioning for the playoffs and fit financially as well as when they can plug a guy in. will weigh heavily in the front office decision if and when they decide to add a player or two.

I think you’re setting yourself up for disappointment pal. Either that or your just getting ready to complain even more when they don’t get an ACE type pitcher or slugger.

The Cardinals just need the “big money guys” (Contreras, Goldschmidt and Arenado) to produce like they are getting paid, plentifully, to do.

Contreras and his .890 OPS is certainly earning his money and is easily the best hitter on this team. Not sure why you linked him with Goldy & Nado?

A bat won’t help unless it is replacing a problem and the problems are not going anywhere.

AdM, Contreras is certainly more formidable than Goldy and Arenado, right now. Burleson is the most solid hitter on the team. right now. I have many astute Cardinals friends/fans that rave about him. Actually, touting him as the team MVP. But, I know, you have higher standards. lol

    Contreras .890 OPS 152 OPS+
    Burly .780 OPS 119 OPS+

    Not. Even. Close!

And he’s not the team MVP. That’s either Helsley, Gray, or Winn!

    Facts are your friend!

I like Burly a lot as a hitter. That’s his one and only baseball skill that is above average. I think he’s a character and I like that a lot. But Shady, you need to find more astute friends if they think Burleson is the team mvp

Thank goodness Winn and Burly are atop the lineup and Contreras is hitting like he is or they would be fighting for a top 10 pick instead of currently having a playoff spot!

Side note, I’d love to see Nick Dunn at least get a cup of coffee soon even if as a bench/backup Matt Carpenter roll. He’s been in the system for almost a decade!

Call me a sucker for a feel good story I guess!
