I hope Pallante steps up today and provides a QS.

Bernie’s article about individual players and how they are performing at various spots in the lineup is a good read.

There is only so much Mo can do mid-season but we can all see that the offense needs a lot more help that the pitching does and we now have a full 1/2 season to base our opinions on.

Somehow this team is above .500 so I think Mo has to make a move / moves to inject life into the run production.

I understand there is some validity to which spot a hitter takes in the lineup with regard to seeing more fastballs or more breaking stuff due to who follows him in the order. On the other hand, I think there are many other times it doesn’t matter at all. When all is said and done, it is pitcher vs. hitter. What I don’t know is how to filter out the less important data from the more important data.

Bottom line, I wish there was a magic formula that would puke out the perfect batting order to make everyone hit to their maximum potential. I don’t think it exists.

Like ZTR concluded, I think they need outside help.

If my stats are correct, right-handed hitters have crushed Perez to the tune of an .884 OPS this season.

Time to get DC a start as well as Fermin & Pages. Maybe DC in RF, Contreras at DH, and Fermin at second?

I think they need outside help.

They do, but the weak spots are Goldschmidt and Arenado, and they are not going to bring in out
side help to address that. They are not going to do anything with Gorman either, so what would the outside help actually help?

    OPS+ season to date.

    Contreras 155
    Burleson 119
    Winn 115
    Donovan 112
    Nootbar 111
    Herrera 105
    —————–
    Arenado 93
    Carpenter 91
    Goldschmidt 89
    Gorman 88
    Siani 62

Martin (properly pronounced “Mar-Teeen”) “Sneaky Bear” Perez is not to be taken lightly. What’s for Din-din one may ask? Well it’s the 4th of July, so what better way to indulge than in a hot dog eating contest. I know a group of yahoos that have this contest every 4th of July, but it’s been about 6 years since I last partook in the festivities. It’s at 5pm today over in Middleton and it’s how many hot dogs you can eat in 30 minutes. I finished near the bottom last time with only 9 hot dogs(with mustard and raw onion) in 30 minutes. I’m thinking this year I may just win the whole enchilada.

Pallante needs to give us 5-6 quality innings today and look for Fermin to have a big hit or two this afternoon.

St. Louis still holds a commanding 1-0 advantage through 3 complete. A lot of empty seats in Pittsburgh today…..but what else is new. It seems like it’s been this way ever since the likes of Manny Sanguillen, Steve Blass, Doctors Ellis, Bob Robertson and Richie Zisk hung them up.

Why give Contreras the green light to attempt stealing 3rd base with no out in this situation?

Reynolds jerks a Pallante fastball well over the centerfield wall and into the well groomed shrubbery to knot this game up at 1-1 in the bottom of inning #4.

Was Reynolds batting righty or lefty?

Boy does Rowdy Telliz look like the prototypical Pittsburgh professional athlete.

And he raps into a 4-6-3 twin killing to put the kobosh on any further Pirste 4th inning aspirations…..1-1.

Glad you found it, JJ. I was feverishly trying to find it…..I could have sworn Reynolds was hitting right.
