And allow me to add this, Mr Shady…

Having “CLASS” imho involves having the ability to admit when you’re wrong.

You’re the one who needs to man-up and admit you were wrong. That would be the “classy” thing to do!

Ok I will settle this once and for all. I need a single to win the game. No other baserunning needed. I will take Burleson. Anything else, I take Contreras.

Goal posts keep moving. I said Contreras was the Cards best hitter while Shady countered Burleson was the better and most feared hitter, which of course was ridiculous.

When I proved him wrong with facts/stats he cherry picked a RH pitcher and needing a fly ball to tie. When I proved that Contreras hits righties BETTER than Burly, we came to needing a single.

Heck…let’s do every scenario to determine the best hitter:

We need a grounder to short?
    We need a sac bunt?
    We need a bunt single?
We need a successful hit & run to the right side?
We need a successful hit and run to the left side?
We need someone to beat out an infield single?
We need to draw a walk?
    We need a triple?

Exhausting! Could’ve been avoided if Shady just admitted he was wrong and Contreras is the Card’s best and most feared hitter in 2024.

AdM, I admire your intensity. But, the way you often find yourself in an altercation with Shady makes me laugh at times.

KCB, Bingo ! Not only for a single but a needed Sac Fly. Burly’s the man for that. Not only with Contreras but the same with Goldschmidt, Arenado and Gorman. The only Cardinal, right now, I’d rather have is Donovan. And it’s a toss up between him and Burly.

It’s nice to see Contreras receiving some well deserved accolades and he ceratinly deserves them. Especially after the manner in which he was publicly scorned by multiple members of Cardinal management as the primary resaon for the tremendous failures of the team in ’23. I’m sure many of you recall that he was benched and forced to stand on the top step of the dugout with the Cardinal manager during games so that the little whiz-kid could explain the finer points of performing the duties of a Big League catcher. How humiliating? At any rate, Willson Contreras handled the entire bizarre fiasco in the exact manner you’d expect from a consummate professional. He kept his mouth closed and allowed the focus to remain on the foolish and weird behavior of the clowns that were pointing their fingers at him in a shameful attempt to redirect the spotlight away from their own monumental failures.

My thinking is if you need a single, in other words a base runner, then a walk or an xbase hit or homer will work too. Contreras’s OBP is .399 vs .315 for Burleson, so I take Contreras all day long.

But if you need a runner advanced, then I take Burly. His K% is half that of Contreras and since he is a lefty, he could contrive to pull something behind the runner more readily than Contreras could go the other way.

Indeed 1TD. Contreras has really stepped up as a leader and class act. Plus he is the one guy of the three elder statesman that shows a lot of passion when he plays.

Nothing wrong with stoicism. Many people are just that way. But it is nice to have balance, and Willson brings that to the team’s persona on the field.

The Contreras signing taken quite the 180 since last year early on. Looks like a good one now.

A walk doesnt work Bling. It has to be a single. You know what we said to kids in little league who couldnt hit.

KCB you reminded me of something I haven’t thought about in decades. When I was about 12 I got mad because the pitcher wasn’t throwing it over the plate, so I pushed the catcher down. They decided not to eject me because we only had 9 players that day, but they agreed to call me out even though it was ball four.

Burleson may have a better ability to place the baseball into play than any other player on this roster. Sometimes just the simple feat of putting the baseball onto the field of play for an out can be an act that factors into survival. A case in point being is if PH’er Kyle Lohse doesn’t get a successful sac-bunt down in the 10th inning of game 6 of the ’11 WS, the Texas Rangers are probably that season’s world champion. Baseball’s always been a game in which tiny nuances can have as much cause and effect into an outcome of a game as that of the titanic HR.

AdM, pretty good game for Burly today. Don’tcha’ think? He might not be in Contreras’ class as a hitter, just yet. But it might be closer than you think or admit. Stay tuned.

Great game, very happy as I’m a Cards fan!

One of the best parts was getting Burleson and his lack of speed out of the outfield.

Now I’ve told you this before…it’s not a matter of what you think or what I think. Facts are facts. And the facts say Contreras is a far superior hitter. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact. It’s also a fact that if you were a real man, you’d just admit you were wrong!

    Contreras 2024: .928 OPS
    Career: .817 OPS

    Burly 2024: .773 OPS
    Career : .716 OPS

I’m done since you have shown time and again you are too cowardly to admit you were wrong on this subject.

I’m a Burleson fan because i like hitting. And he’s kind of a throwback. See ball hit ball. He’s a character, which we need more of. But if you watched Noot cruising around in right field yesterday, than you know why people dont want Burly out there.

At this point I don’t see how Oli doesn’t go with Winn, Burly, Contreras at the top, after that it is a roll of the dice. Donovan in the 5/6 hole is the only other guarantee for me.

Thankfully Goldy and Nado have shown some signs of life. I’m also far from opposed of Noot in CF if the bats go into a bit of a funk.

That was before computers and wonks Brian. Nobody ever heard of ahalytics. My coach at the time, a Mr. Hicks, actually was a cigar chomper, even when he was standing at the 3B coaches position when we were batting.

On the subject of the potential lineup, it will be fun seeing how they keep Burly in there every game.

It seems like Burly is a contact guy trying to have more power, and Gorman is a power guy trying to make more contact. That is going to be fun to watch.

AlbertdeM, why can you not be satisfied with being right without being a jerk about it?

All your talk about “manliness” and “class” and “fools” just make you look childish, insulting another kid on the playground. Maybe that is how you roll at Cards Talk, but we act like adults here.

I did not want to suspend you, and I gave you a lot of chances. Unlike others who were only here to cause trouble, you participated in discussions. But after repeated warnings, you have forced my hand by your numerous violations of the posted rules of the site.

You have made some good comments about Cardinals baseball and I hope when you return you can keep it there. But if the personal attacks resurface, you will again depart, but for a longer period.

I would be hesitant to remove Siani from the lineup. The guy is a human highlight reel in CF. He has saved so many runs this year and that is something we shouldn’t take for granted.

No question about it. I don’t think I’ve seen him not make a play.

Siani has made a believer out of me. His CF defense is GG caliber and his hitting has improved. Outstanding speed on the base paths. Very nice pickup by Mo. Considering Siani’s elite defense at a critical defensive position, he’s fine as a #9 hitter in the lineup.
