Crown him! King looked like absolute royalty today……3-2 Good Guys your fabulous final.
July 4, 2024 at 2:28 pm #258961Oh oh…..I sent that text sailing a bit early…..momentarily strike that post from the record as Pittsburgh with 2 outs has quickly amassed a couple of base hits.
July 4, 2024 at 2:30 pm #258963Ok…..we can reinstate that original post as King finally gets the job done….3-2 Cards your final.
July 4, 2024 at 2:31 pm #258964I’m not sure how that run that scored from 2B on the sac fly was irrelevant. It is now, but it wasn’t then…
July 4, 2024 at 2:31 pm #258965Cards win barely, 3-2.
July 4, 2024 at 2:32 pm #258966Wow – that Marmol is a smart manager keeping his closer out of the game and getting the win!
King rules!!

jj-cf-stlParticipantTwo runs in extras wins!
The Dom strategy!July 4, 2024 at 2:33 pm #258968In a 3-1 10th inning ballgame, that Pittsburgh runner at 2nd base meant absolutely nothing from the get-go, TD. It was meaningless.
July 4, 2024 at 2:33 pm #258969Now that they won, I suspect Donny will be the subject of a lot of loud comedic discussion.
July 4, 2024 at 2:33 pm #258970No Helsley???? Marmol should be fired immediately!!
Sarcasm alert…
July 4, 2024 at 2:33 pm #258971All jokes aside, is Helsley hurt?
July 4, 2024 at 2:35 pm #258972My understanding is that Helsley was unavailable.

jj-cf-stlParticipantWho gets that game ball?
July 4, 2024 at 2:36 pm #258974He’s meaningless now, Pugs, but he wasn’t meaningless while the game was still being played. Pittsburgh needed 2 runs to tie and 3 to win. The run that scored on the sac-fly was 1 run. You need to score the 1st run before you score the 2nd run, and so on…
July 4, 2024 at 2:42 pm #258975Let me term it like this…Was that potential tying run at 2B with 2 outs and the score 3-2 meaningless? In other words, that run that scored from 2B on the sac-fly to make it a 1 run game was the run that made the 1st and 2nd with 2 outs situation a critical one.
July 4, 2024 at 2:51 pm #258977I don’t want to be too hard on Donovan simply because everyone has a moment like that from time to time. I once dismounted a motorcycle while engaging myself in a conversation with someone and set the mean machine on the side stand without having the presence of mind to take the care to deploy the sidestand…Haha! It wasn’t too easy to get that heavy piece of machinery off of the pavement and upright again, but it was even harder to soothe my ego…
July 4, 2024 at 3:00 pm #258978Last year I thought King was just a throw in on the Montgomery trade but dude is pulling his weight.
July 4, 2024 at 3:04 pm #258979I’m feeling a bit ignorant, TD, because for the life of me I cannot realize the significance of Taylor at 2nd base with us leading by 2 runs in the 10th. I would not have minded one bit if the Cardinals had simply let Taylor prance on home without resistance after the very first pitch in that 10th inning. With a 2 run lead, Taylor meant absolutely nothing as far as I can see. What am I missing?
July 4, 2024 at 3:08 pm #258980Alls well that ends well. But there should be somebody on the bench more likely to get at least a sac fly than Pages. I agree there wasn’t, so no criticism of Boy Blunder.
July 4, 2024 at 3:11 pm #258981ZTR, I agree. Both Kittridge and King have really competed for this team. Along with Fernandez, nice relief pitcher additions by Mo. Though Romero has been struggling a little lately. He can be added to the list.
July 4, 2024 at 3:13 pm #258983Marmol said the pen was short with “three or four” relievers not available today. He praised the job the pen is doing.
Marmol: "You can't say enough about what our pen has done. We play a close game every night. Today, our pen was very short. Not a lot of guys available and rightfully so. They've been called on quite a bit and have done their job. … A ton of credit to that group." #STLCards pic.twitter.com/5AIm2oWqUO

July 4, 2024 at 3:15 pm #258984I agree with Pugs. That run means nothing. Let him walk home on the first play and it changes little. I guess you can argue that maybe the Cardinals could have gotten super lucky and tagged that runner out on a play, doubled him off on a line drive, or after a walk forced him out. But it can be argued the other way that the runner is a distraction to the pitcher and defense and they’re better off with empty bases and not worrying about that guy. Ultimately, that guy couldn’t win or tie the game. It had to be someone after him. So he didn’t matter.
July 4, 2024 at 3:35 pm #258987Needs as I see it a little past the 1/2 way point
1) A bat or 2 in the OF or 2nd base (would ship Gorman if possible…maybe someone is enamored with his 17 homers). 63.5% of the games they have played this year they have scored 4 runs or less, including 20 out of there last 33 since June 1, 2024. At this point I am not sure Nootbar or Edman are going to contribute much this year, you really cannot count on them.
2) a Bullpen Arm.….the way they are using the pen in all these close games it may implode at some point…Helsley is already needing extra days off….Gallegos is done
3) Starting Pitcher….Really not sure they have much to offer to get a solid 2-3 type starter so this may not be attainable….not sure another #5 type starter moves the needle

stlcard25ParticipantGood to get the win on our Independence Day. The team is playing well enough to win some games, but it hardly feels like any of the games are certainties. Sort of like a poor man’s 2015.
July 4, 2024 at 3:39 pm #258989Well, here’s the way I see it. Without the lapse in concentration and irregardless of that lapse by the Cardinal LF’er, Taylor may or may not have scored on the 2 out RBI single to LF from PH’er Triolo. If they wave him and he scores it’s a 1 run game with the tying run at 1B and 2 outs. The next batter singled which would have almost certainly scored Taylor from 3B had he been held up on the single from Triolo. Either way, it’s still a 2 run game without the mental lapse from the LF’er. To better illustrate my point, did anyone happen to notice the complete sense of urgency from Siani as he was desperately trying to exhort the LF’er to get the baseball back towards the IF? If that run to pull to within 1 didn’t make any difference, why the sense of urgency from the CF’er Siani? Better yet, did anyone see the look of dejection on the LF’er, Donovan’s face after he’d realized his potentially devastating mistake. You’ll have to trust me when I say that that play opened up all kinds of potentially bad scenarios for the Redbirds.
