Yeah Mike, I wondered if the hand behind the back is a nuance I just haven’t paid attention to in years. Do most do it nowadays or not?
After the injury, I noticed Pages had his right hand behind his back on a pitch, and then the next pitch he didn’t. Seems like that’s something you’d do every pitch, or why bother at all?
I picked a bad night to watch the Cards after a break. What channel is Dragnet on?
Nats announcers have really gotten on Donovan a couple times for blocking 2B and the umps not calling it. Is that a new rule that’s being emphasized?

Albert, I wondered too. I replayed it in slo-mo and I think it would’ve stayed in the field, but still a winner nonetheless.
I bet Angels skipper Ron Washington still sees red after the way our Cardinals came back to beat his Rangers in the ’11 world series.
I watched Washington’s press conference after the game last night. He got real snappy and a bit hot answering questions about the suicide squeeze snafu. It was a real laugher at the time, and then again when the Angels TV guys later commented on the exchange. Washington made our guy Oli look a charming media whisperer.
Pugs, I skipped the party. Didn’t want to miss out on the Cardinals’ offensive fireworks tonight. Just tuned in and it looks like the 3rd inning could’ve been worse.
The Mets just got a crooked-er number than the Cards did.

Yep Texas, a lot of station to station mentality. Can’t take risks because the next batter is gonna show everybody why we teach launch angle and exit velo.
Never was a Reds or Rose fan, but I loved how he rounded 1B on a single just daring the OFer to bobble the ball or relax for just a split second.
If Johnny says Oli is amazing, then he’s amazing. Billy must think Oli’s voice is still fresh enough.

Slow runner, but intelligent on the base paths. Matt Carpenter on the other hand was not a real good base runner.
Agree with this. To me, Carp just doesn’t “get it” running the bases.
I have been trading a lot of my baseball time over to watching NCAA games the last couple seasons. As a general observation, college players don’t run the bases well. Not sure why. I guess it usually goes back to what you’re taught and practice. I also think some base running skills were previously developed in the more trial-and-error nature of informal “sandlot” games, where it isn’t such a big deal to make mistakes. Easier to learn the good and bad risks. Players don’t get that these days.
Great players and teams cause fundamental changes to their games.
They widened the lane and changed the goal tending rule because of Wilt Chamberlain. They lowered the mound because of Bob Gibson. Next, they’ll redefine the Mendoza Line because of the Cards.
