Great players and teams cause fundamental changes to their games.
They widened the lane and changed the goal tending rule because of Wilt Chamberlain. They lowered the mound because of Bob Gibson. Next, they’ll redefine the Mendoza Line because of the Cards.
How is the poor offensive performance possible with Goldschmidt, Arenado, Contreras, Gorman, Nootbaar, Winn, Donovan, and even the departed Walker in the lineup? It doesn’t make sense that most of them are having subpar years all at the same time.
Stan the Man took a pay cut after a less than sterling year. If he were playing today he’d probably get an extension. That’s the world we live in. Performance and compensation are not necessarily related.
Probably the video room guy too. And that extra coach who doesn’t suit up, can’t remember the name but it didn’t sound like he’d know which end of the bat to hold.
Might not have to worry about Matz for a while. It’s now claimed that his lower back issue surfaced several days prior to his most recent lousy turn on Tuesday. The fact that they allege they were aware of the issue prior to allowing him to take his scheduled turn is beyond laughable. In any case, the scheduled MRI and the ensuing results of the reading ought to take him out of the picture long enough to take some of the heat off of Johnny for signing him…Haha!
D.C. MacLea is the one I was thinking of. Over the side along with the hitting coaches and the video room guy. The game planning coach too. Whatever he does he sucks at it.
