So, how long does he stay in the 8 spot? 😉

Wainwright looking his sharpest this year. He’s given up two hits in 6 innings. He’s at about 70 pitches, so he might go 7 innings or more. Cards still clinging to a 1-0 lead. Pham leads off the 6th with a single, so maybe they can add to the lead.

The good news is the Cards up 1-0 after 4, and they might end up winning by a comfortable margin. Wainwright is doing well.

However, the bad news is the mental gaffes are rearing their ugly heads again on the bases (Pham and Molina thrown out stealing in dubious situations) and on defense (DeJong not covering 2B properly to prevent a double play). Somehow, this has to be addressed. A trade or two isn’t going to make it stop.

Brewers just took a gut punch. Yanks turn a loss to victory with a walk-off 3-run HR (Frazier) in the 9th.

So much disappointment with these Cardinals. At times they look bad, other times they look like they don’t even try. Carpenter as 2B continues to be a really bad idea. The way he stabbed at that grounder brought back memories of coaching youth ball.

A player gets three option years after being placed on a 40-man roster. This would be the second option year for Jose. I’m assuming he wasn’t on a 40-man roster prior to the year we acquired him from KC.

Oh with the save. Cards salvage a split with the Marlins.

Big hit by Pham closes the gap to 8-6. Top of 7th now with Bowman in relief. Cards have a realistic chance now.

Something brewing in the 4th. Cards have loaded the bases with no outs.

So, this game goes from being down 8-0 to 7-3. Still a lot of game left with Cards batting in the 3rd, just keep chipping away. First 3 innings have been brutally played by the Cards though.

Carp at 2B doesn’t look any better this year than it did last year. Probably should’ve left him where he wasn’t hurting us too badly.

Yep, problem is they were all 4th OFers today, and not so fine at that. Somebody has to pick somebody else up. The OFers were a combined 0 for 11 with 9 Ks I believe. Oh well, good teams don’t do that two days in a row, especially at home against a non-contender. Somebody better produce tomorrow.

Bad Pham today. Four strikeouts, and the last one was a backbreaker. Maybe Piscotty will deliver with two outs and runners on the corners in the 7th

This game went south in a hurry with a rough 6th inning. Marlins take advantage of our weaknesses (pen and defense) to strike for 5 runs and lead 5-2. Plenty of time to come back though, as Voit leads off the 6th with a single.

Pham continues to be a spark. He increased his OPS to .891 after his last RBI-single.

A 5-run lead is big…except it doesn’t seem that way when it was 11. We got this though. Lyons has the breaker really moving. Maybe not tonight, but there are some games I’d like to see Matheny use Lyons for more than an inning in a setup role when he looks sharp his first inning.

Nice to have a yawner. Wainwright seems like he’s got them off balance on many of his pitches tonight.

I also believe Matheny needs to get out of the “one inning a piece” mode. Cecil is getting guys out from both sides of the plate. Has he ever been more than a one inning reliever? Might consider bringing him in for the first high leverage situation encountered, then go more than one inning, a la Andrew Miller….or consider him to close. Lyons could certainly go longer in some games if he’s going well. Also, as said earlier by someone, maybe it’s time to give Brebbia a more prominent role. Maybe Zach Duke will keep healing faster than expected. He could be considered Mo’s “in-season trade acquisition via return from DL” this year….or Girsh’s I guess. And/or actually make a move for a guy like Neshek or Motte to give Matheny more trusted BP depth, since it appears no other team is going to run away with the division.

Cards definitely got a break on the last strike call, for sure. Ump showed the rookie no love on that one!

Here! I stumbled my way here after I figured out I needed to register first. The instructions were clear on the old site that I needed to do that, but I hadn’t focused on that until I started to post on the game thread earlier tonight.

Rosenthal walked Harper, struck out Zimmerman, and gave up a single to Murphy. Threw one down the middle to Murphy on an 0-2 pitch. You just know Rosenthal will make it interesting.
