I’ll miss this game because I will be having my late lunch at the Gasthof, the Amish restaurant down in Montgomery. I am going to call this one 6-2 Redbirds with Arenado getting off the schneid for a 2nd time this year with a big dong to LF.

And I missed the last two innings of Game #1 yesterday and all of Game #2. I was down in Jasper at the big game between the visiting Castle Knights and the Jasper Wildcats. The Wildcats came away with a thrilling 3-2 win in nine innings. Funny, the winning run scored on a sac fly to LF and the throw in from the LF guy was so high and off target it landed in the netting right in front of me.

Here, you can see the throw. The announcer says he threw it into the stands but it actually hit the netting right in front of me.

Hope we get a decent start from Mikolas and can get out if Detroit with a third straight series win.

Kind of early for a lineup. We will have to see if it holds up until first pitch.

Willson catching again after taking more abuse behind the plate last game. His availability during these 30 games has been top shelf. If he wasn’t our lineups mvp, he might get a chance to heal up.

Contreras has been real good, but I’m not sure he’s this team’s line-up MVP. He’s tied with his counterpart Herrera with 9 RBI’s. I’d like to see a few more key hits from Willson’s bat. Donovan leads the entire team in total run production with 16 RBI’s and 13 runs scored for a total of 29. Arenado and Goldschmidt are a close 2nd and 3rd with 26 and 25 respectively.

Praising a team two games under .500 and in 4th place may seem odd but I actually see some signs that this team could potentially be quite a bit better than last year. The reason is because the team is built around pitching and defense, which is a solid foundation and at least gives you a chance to win. Last year we were usually down 6-0 after three innings and with no chance to win. This year is usually different except on days Mikolas and Matz pitch.

Our three best starters are the new guys. I would rank our rotation as Gray, Lynn, Gibson, Mikolas, and Matz. The bullpen has been mostly solid, at least good enough. Now if we could at least muster up an average offense this team could win some games.

I’m not sure Contreras at #2 in the lineup is the way to go. I’d like to see how Winn could produce there. On another note, I’m looking forward to Burleson and Saggese in the lineup, together, fairly soon. Probably in ’25.

I’m entirely sure he doesn’t belong in the 2 slot. I mentioned he’s only collected 9 RBI’s in 109 PA’s. Burleson’s driven in 10 RBI’s in 35 less trips to the plate. Contreras would undoubtedly see more RBI chances if he were placed lower in the order.

in series final games the Cardinals are 1-8 this year…lets see if they can turn that around today to win their 3rd straight series

3-0 Detroit in the 3rd. We will be lucky to win this game. And we will have been lucky to have won even one of this Detroit series.

    I’m head to the Gasthof……

The player Willson has drove in the most is himself. He has drove in Arenado once and Goldy none. He hit fifth for a while and that didn’t help his RBI totals.

Just arrived home early to make up for having to burn the midnight oil down at the salt mines last night. We’re in the bottom of the 4th in a 3-1 Detroit ballgame….2 out and nobody on base.

And Mikolas sets them down in order for the first time today. Let’s get these guys! This is the Tigers we’re playing…..though I’m sure they still harbor some resentment for what we did to them in 2006……as we did towards them for 1968. Hard to believe that no player on this field was alive when we lost to them in ’68…..we’re getting old, gang.

I really am frustrated. I guess I need to stop caring. Matz aND Mikolas are both signed thru 25. We all know they aren’t going anywhere. Nobody working for the Cardinals has a clue on roster or lineup construction. We insist on forcing guys hitting a buck fifty into premium run producing positions. The fact Brandon Crawford is on this team makes me vomit. What the heck I bet Mrs Carpenter appreciates the 2 million dollar donation while getting Matt out of her hair at the same time.
We extend a manager who should have been fired. I think watching the young guys is the only reason I watch. And Burly. I love me some Burly.

For Willsons RBI opps; Winn, auto-out, Donovan sets the table better than Goldy, Gorman, Arenado did for Contreras. I like him #2, he will capitalize on good pitches better than Goldy did.

Maybe the Redbird manager should slot Contreras at lead-off. Donovan leads the team with 16 RBI’s.

We feel your pain, KeepComingBack. Never stop caring. It’s enduring these dismal seasons that makes the great years so much greater. We’ll weather the storm and live to see another year when our Birds are rocking. And I don’t think it’s quite time to write this year off. It could end up being a magical year yet. Stranger things have certainly happened.
