Siani’s swinging the hot bat with the 2 for 2 in Wednesday’s game in Detroit. He may lead-off vs. the ChiSox.
The Cubs just beat the Mets 1-0 on Wednesday night at Shea Stadium. Alonso was tagged out at the plate in a sac fly situation to end the game. From the naked eye as it was happening it was just about clearly obvious he was safe. The Cub announcers showed the Replay over and over and it was still clearly obvious he was safe.
The Mets challenged. After a two minute review the umps ruled that the call stands. 1-0 Cubs the final.
Unbelievable. You guys go and watch and see what you think.

Cards fans. What is your preferred Cardinals lineup, right now, against all the RHP they are facing? A lineup for the game this thread is about, if you will.
I would go this way for th Friday game:

Arenado 3b
Goldschmidt 1b

Siani cfI would not put as much emphasis on L-R-L as Ollie does, and put the struggling guys lower. The vets are mostly struggling as well but they have the legacy data to support keeping them in prime slots, at least for awhile longer.
That’s a much better lineup BikeMike. The problem is until our two big bats in the middle start to do something it doesn’t really make much difference what the lineup is. May as well have Dal Maxvill and Mario Guerrero in the 3 & 4 slots.
Shady, I would run the following lineup. Donovan and Noot are going to pick it up based off their batted ball data so I would keep them at the top of the lineup. Goldy also seems to be picking it up some. Gorman I would have in the lineup, but I would give him more off days to work on some things.

Burly DHBurly has been getting on base better lately, so it may seem odd to have him at 9. But I prefer having someone who gets on base more in the 9 spot for the top of the order to drive in.
Lineups? Don’t know about lineups, but I’m reasonably certain there’ll be plenty of fans at the ballpark enjoying a peaceful nap in the sun this weekend with these two offensive titans squaring off to do battle.
ATM, that’s an interesting suggestion as to Burly’s possible value at #9. However, it’s more likely to deprive him of an extra AB in the game. That’s a disadvantage. IMO I’d like for them to try Burly at #3 fot a while. With Donovan and Winn at 1 and 2 before him and the big boppers behind him. Burly is a very good fast ball hitter. With a speedy guy possibly on 1B when he bats and the power guys behind him, that should get Burleson more fast balls to try to crush. Right now, pitchers often try to get him to go for breaking balls down and off the plate.
I think most of us probably agree that Winn looks like a perfect player for the two slot. Great speed, takes the ball the other way well, has a decent OBP.
Just has that look at the guy you would put there in an optimal lineup over Goldy or Contreras. Those guys belong in the run producing spots.
Just for fun, here’s a Cardinal lineup from a game against the Cubs played on Sept. 24, 2011. Some of you may remember that during the entire month of September of that season every game was not unlike playing a win or go home 7th game of a series. Here’s how the manager of that team penciled in the lineup for a game that his team absolutely, positively had to win…

The teeth of this batting order are placed precisely where common sense says they should be…In the heart of the order at 3-4-5! TLR may have had some faults, but he rarely ever fiddle-nickeled around with what has long been proven to work.
On a good note…..
The Cubs lost to the Mets this afternoon (Thursday) by the score of 7-6 in 11 innings. They should have lost on Wednesday night too. Well, at least that game should have been tied because it should have been obvious to even Helen Keller that Alonso was safe at home.

Haha!…Raffy in the 5 slot is a good one, Bikemike, and I won’t even elaborate on the great Pujols slotted at 2. I remember Matheny slotting Molina at 2 for several games in a couple different seasons. Insane…I was afraid some poor Cardinal player was going to be injured as they slammed into the back of the tough as a brick wall Molina while he was clogging the basepaths…
I attended a game in 2012 vs. the Phillies in which Yadier Molina attempted to score from 1B on a double that bounced and richocheted around in the RF corner for what seemed like an eternity. The capacity crowd was on it’s feet and going wild as the former Cardinal catcher was burning around the basepaths trying to score. He almost made it…
Yadi was slow, but a few times a year while on first he would catch the pitcher not holding him at all and he would get a jump and swipe a base. Slow runner, but intelligent on the base paths. Matt Carpenter on the other hand was not a real good base runner.
He was one of the most astute base thieves I’ve ever seen. Ignore Molina over at 1B and it wasn’t too long until he was standing on 2B in scoring position. There wasn’t an area of the game that he didn’t have thoroughly etched into his mind and he new the rule book better than most umpires. I miss his baseball antics…Haha!
TLR used to hit Larry Walker 2nd in the lineup but that lineup was so loaded he could actually justify doing it.
I once added up all of the career taters in that lineup…Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, Walker, Lankford and Sanders…They outnumber Ore-Ida.

Agree with this. To me, Carp just doesn’t “get it” running the bases.
I have been trading a lot of my baseball time over to watching NCAA games the last couple seasons. As a general observation, college players don’t run the bases well. Not sure why. I guess it usually goes back to what you’re taught and practice. I also think some base running skills were previously developed in the more trial-and-error nature of informal “sandlot” games, where it isn’t such a big deal to make mistakes. Easier to learn the good and bad risks. Players don’t get that these days.
