While I know last week’s Boston and White Sox was on NBC and Peacock, today’s is Peacock only as my NBC is showing Tennis and Indy 500 qualifying on today.

Gorman’s swing is much much better than when he was in the lower minors. I hope he lives to the hype, but I still have my doubts. But I definitely trust him way more than O’Neill.
Also I know someone who went to high school with Peters and said he was a major cocaine user and wild as can be.

I don’t have a big problem moving Edman to SS. He’s got experience there and I believe he’ll be above average, maybe not the exceptional 2B he is, but he’ll be more than fine at SS. Donovan played all over in AAA because he was viewed as a Daniel Descalso type, but his bat has been very good since promotion and deserves to be in the lineup and he’s proven to be be a good defender. If they want to make the move of Edman to SS to open 2B for Gorman long term fine, but if Donovan and Gorman are both in the line up then use the best defense of Donovan at 2B and Gorman at DH. If Dickerson plays tomorrow over Donovan, then fine, Gorman at 2B, Dickerson LF, Yepez DH, but I’d still be trotting Donovan out there ever bit as much as possible.

Unless you don’t think Gorman is going to be the long-term starter at second, why shouldn’t he play there? When they were in Memphis, Gorman played second and Donovan moved around. That has been the plan all along.

AAA is learning and Gorman is learning the position, Donovan viewed as utility future. They are in the big leagues now, it’s win time. Donovan is superior defensively. Maybe Gorman is the 2B of the future, especially when Walker arrives and needs the DH with Arenado at 3B, but for a team with emphasis on defense not putting the best defensive alignment doesn’t make sense to me.

I like the order. Donovan should be at 2B and Gorman at DH though.

I’ve always been a firm believer in you can take a contact hitter with true bat to ball skill and develop power (like Carpenter), but you can’t take a raw power hitter and develop contact. I also think the ball needs put in play and a K doesn’t create offense. Why I’ve always liked the guys like Edman, Donovan, still believe in Carlson, think Burleson has a bright future. Even if power doesn’t develop, like I don’t expect 20+ out of Edman or Donovan, the bat to ball still plays. All of this is why I never was a bit of a believer in O’Neill and really question Gorman. Although what I’ve seen from Gorman he is much more “smooth” than O’Neill, which gives me more hope, but still think we’re getting Brandon Moss and people are going to be really disappointed when that’s what he is when they’ve heard all this hype expecting 50+ bombs and the savior. Same as fans were happy to see JD Drew go when he was a good player and so many other examples around the league this top 100 hype brings.

Very likely with Zeuch. He’s been lit up this year, hasn’t even thrown in awhile, and AAA has about 18 pitchers on the roster.

Could they be thinking to DFA DeJong to open a 40 man spot? If someone claims him then thank you, most likely wouldn’t and he’s in the same spot.

I thought maybe they’d go Wainwright route and have Liberatore work as another LH in the pen. But if he’s starting then you’d think Hicks is moving back to the pen. But 2 40 man spots are going to needed opened up. I’d think it’s going to be something like
    Edman SS (S)
    Donovan 2B (L)
    Goldschmidt 1B (R)
    Arenado 3B (R)
    Yepez LF (R)
    Gorman DH (L)
    Carlson RF (S)
    Molina/Knizner C (R)
    Bader CF (R)
    Sosa, Pujols, Dickerson, Knizner/Molina
    Vs LHP
    Edman SS
    Goldschmidt 1B
    Arenado 3B
    Yepez LF
    Pujols DH
    Carlson RF
    Bader CF
    C
    Sosa 2B

They could leave Edman at 2B, but if they are making the move might as well go ahead and move him to SS and give Gorman some time at 2B in my opinion.

On the high school basketball team I was part of a club we called the 30/30/30. We were a group of 4 or 5 that only could get game time if we were up 30, down 30, and 30 seconds left. We’ve added Sosa and Woodford to our club. That said I like the potential Donovan brings and understand them giving him and chance and he’s played well so far, but Sosa is consistently getting passed over. I view him as a Aledmys Diaz type anyway, but there is definitely value in that and Diaz has made out a pretty long career of it.

Schwarber is better than Grichuk or Moss. I was saying I’d hoped Gorman was better than Schwarber being as highly touted as he is and the teams #1 prospect. But I have a feeling his much more Brandon Moss than he even is Schwarber. We’ll see, he’s just turned 22, he’s got some time.

I’m not trading Yepez or Burleson. I really like Burleson’s bat. And I especially don’t trade them for rental players.
I don’t have much interest in Bogarts. Defense is a 3B playing SS and the cost will be to high to trade for and an extension hampers the teams needs with other already guaranteed contracts.

I would hope he’s better than Schwarber, but I don’t think he walks that much.
“Red flags flown at Palm Beach included Gorman’s strikeout rate growing to 31.7% while his walk rate was cut in half between the two A-ball levels – from 11.3% to 5.7%. In comparison, over his entire minor league career, Randal Grichuk never fanned at 31.7% or above. Tyler O’Neill reached that mark just once, at 32.2% at Class-A in 2014.” – written by Brian Walton.
I think he’s a LH Grichuk. Which makes him basically like everyone’s favorite Cardinal…Brandon Moss.
And Dan made sure to point out Gorman hit another HR today in the broadcast, but failed to mention 3 more K.

Gorman may develop. Well see, I still fear he’s way more Russell Branyan than Jim Edmonds. I don’t think Gorman is close to being ready to be called up for sure though, regardless of the hype.
As for O’Neill, I’ve never been a believer in him. His “excellent defense” is made up from elite speed. His routes aren’t the best, below avg arm, and is the best I can describe “clunky”, but his speed gets him to balls many OF’s don’t have a chance at. As for his hitting.
    2018- 64 games AAA, 61 MLB, .254/.303/.500, 40% K, 5% BB, .246 ISO, 35% out of zone swing, 45% hard contact
    2019- 47 games minors, 60 MLB, .262/.311/.411, 35% K, 6.6%BB, .149 ISO, 37% out of zone swing, 36% hard contact
    2020- no minor season, 50 MLB, .173/.261/.360, 27% K, 9.6%BB, .187 ISO, 29% out of zone swing, 29% hard contact
    2021- 138 MLB games, .286/.352/.550, 31% K, 7% BB, .274 ISO, 32% out of zone swing, 52% hard contact
    2022- 27 MLB games, .198/.267/.317, 29% K, 9% BB, .119 ISO, 32% out of zone swing, 36% hard contact.

He ranked top 15 MLB in hard contact for 2021. He’s not I the top 125 for 2022. You tell me was 2021 a “break out season” or a complete outlier and he’s the hitter who was unbelievably inconsistent and frustrating, struggling to stay in the majors for 3 years with stats that don’t exactly scream consistent big league middle of the order bat.

If I’m trading with Boston I’m looking at the Craig and Kelly for Lackey and Littrell trade and thinking DeJong and ? for Eovaldi and Strahm.
I like Hudson, but his BB/9 hasn’t gotten better after leading the league in BB in 2019, short 2020 with slightly improved BB/9, TJ surgery and looked good in only 3 appearances last season. And there is obviously the concern of Hicks off TJ, basically missing 2 years, and now starting with a crazy high BB/9. Getting another SP may he higher priority than a SS.
And if I was Boston I’d have Story at SS, Bogarts at 3B, Devers at 1B and be an exceptionally better defensive team, but that doesn’t make up for many other of their issues though.

They will need a corner OF when O’Neill joins DeJong in AAA. As long as Yepez isn’t a complete liability in LF keep running him out there, the guy can hit. And until Gorman can make contact leave him in AAA. We dont need a left handed O’Neill.
If Mo needs some help with talent evaluation I’ll leave my current job, but he’ll probably run me off faster than Schildt when I don’t agree with him.

I don’t watch a ton of the Red Sox, but the deal would have to be pretty sweet and I don’t know that happens. He’s an exceptional bat, but Boston is going go demand a lot for him and from what I’ve seen I don’t think he sticks at SS much longer. I’ve never been real high on his defensive abilities anyway and he’s a bigger body and a move to 3B I think is sooner rather than later. I don’t fully trust metrics that ever graded Jhonny Peralta as the best defensive SS, they can be a useful tool, but I’ll trust what I see when it comes to defense.
And I just looked up the metrics and they actually agree with me ranking him around 19th and -5 runs saved.

Edman is way to good of an IF for me to be putting him in the OF other than emergency situations. And I don’t think Gorman is that close to being recalled, another 3 K night last night.
While I don’t agree with the accuracy of a lot of fielding metrics, Edman leads all the big in runs saved, regardless of position, he’s a gold glover (for what thats worth), and he sure passes my eye test too. I think he can be an above average SS if needed and is an exceptional 2B. I’ve been on board of Edman at SS and platoon Donovan and Sosa at 2B for awhile, but Donovan hasn’t looked bad at SS but it’s been a small sample, and if they keep Edman at 2B with the platoon at SS I guess it’s OK. One reason I think Edman could benefit at SS is the same reason Eckstein played SS and not 2B, the momentum of the fielding often leads the player into the throw, especially on a double play. And while I don’t think Edman had a weak arm, it’s not the strongest and he has somewhat of an awkward throwing motion. Either way I keep Edman in the middle IF and his versatility to play either opens more options to improve around him.

Rat, Jasper good this year? I haven’t paid attention to local HS baseball in years. I know we were ranked high in the state ranking and lost the regional championship to Jasper when I was a Soph. They had a 3B who was a stud, can’t remember his name. Played there a few times, including Sr. year regional too. They had a beautiful field.

O’Neill is going to be joining DeJong soon. Or maybe its just that I’ve never been a believer in him.
I still belive right now Bader should be hitting 2 and move the rest down, Molina/Knizner 8th.
