We have now lost three in a row. Hopefully Mikolas can get us back on track. We need to start hitting. Offense is the name of the game.

Memorial Day is fast rushing toward us, and with it the end of the excuse “It’s early yet.”

After that, what we’ve got is what we’ve got. And unless there are some serious changes in the next coupla weeks, what we’ve got is a mediocre baseball team, a .500 club that will continue to disappoint fans who still hold great expectations. Unreliable pitching in general and wishy washy offense.

One can always hope, of course, but as Red said in the Shawshank Redemption, hope is a dangerous thing,

We are 16-13. We lost one game to Baltimore. Sounds to me from reading the other thread that people are starting to panic already. The first sign of trouble and people bail out.

It’s a long season. Ups and Downs. We won’t win 100 games. 90 is a definite possibility. And with 90 comes the playoffs.

Din-din today is the weekly trip to the Amish restaurant, the Gasthof. Roast beef, fried chicken, fish, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, dressing, noodles, baked carrots, cherry cobbler, chocolate soft serve ice cream.

Had some drama in the 9th last night but the big boys didn’t pull their pants up. Rookies getting more hits than the old guys? Din-din tonight will be “some kind of meat” like the boys ate at Summer Camp.Hope to see us ahead in scoring sometime tonight. Go Cardinals!

O’Neill is going to be joining DeJong soon. Or maybe its just that I’ve never been a believer in him.
I still belive right now Bader should be hitting 2 and move the rest down, Molina/Knizner 8th.

Opossum, Wooster? I’ve been meaning to try that. Opossum, squirrel and rabbit are three delicacies that I have yet to try. Sounds like Rat had quite the smorgasbord coming his way compliments of The Gasthof today. I’m din-dining it with your basic hamburger with onion, pickle and mustard, potato salad, deviled eggs, crispy fries and 3 Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies with Breyer’s butter pecan on top.

Last night was the first game this year where I did not watch one minute of the game. I knew it was going to be a canker sore of a ballgame, so I sparred myself the anguish. So, we are going to have to settle for 2-3…….and we will take these next two games. I generally do not handicap a game unless I know who both the starters are, but trust me when I say that Baltimore could trot out Verlander for the first 3 innings, Cole for the next 3 frames and then Buehler for the final 2 and they would still be going down to defeat this evening. I’m starting to get worried about O’Neill and his weak stick. I thought he would have turned things around by now. I have a 6:15p business meeting via telephone tonight, so I hope it doesn’t run too much after game time.

Love your Shawshank quote, Cardinal In France? Reminds me of when the boys were tarring the prison roof and Andy said something along the lines of “A man just feels more like a man when he’s outside working, if he can have himself a bottle of suds”. Well, I just took the dog for a walk, so that should entitle me to a bottle or two of suds, shouldn’t it?

Carlson hasn’t been hitting well enough to be in the #5 hole.
Neither has Dickerson. Move Bader into the #2 hole and have Edman and Bader 1-2 followed by Goldy, NA, and Yepez.
Din-Din tonight will be roasted Oriole.

I have the charcoal grill going. A fat NY strip, corn on the cob, thick slices of tomato with feta, basil and black pepper on top. All of it on the grill. And a frosty Busch. Its going to be glorious.

I really do hate the lineup, but any arrangement of those batting lines is not pretty. You can’t put together rallies with so many weak contributors. All we can do is hope for enough homers to win.

Lineup, schmineup, it doesn’t really matter. You have to have more than two guys getting hits in order to win games. As it stands now we have to wait for the other team to play badly and do the winning for us.

But on a more positive note, Rah Cardinals!

Wednesday is usually fish day chez les CiFs, so tonight was lemon sole with baby potatoes and a ratatouille with some fresh strawberries for dessert.

I like this Cedric (properly pronounced “C-drik”) Mullins fellow for Baltimore out of Campbell University….he grounds out 3-1 to start this ballgame. For those few whom may not know, Campbell University is in Buies Creek, North Carolina. And Miles mows down the first 3 Orioles without incident…..2 via the K route.

Bottom of 1. Spencer Watkins is Baltimore’s main man on the hill this evening.

Edman is robbed of a base hit by Mancini over at 1st base who pounces on a sizzling grounder ticketed for right field and tosses it to Watkins at 1st for the out.

    Goldy strikes out.

Arenado strikes out on a low wide one that Nolan couldn’t check his swing on and it took Cy Spenser a mere 12 pitches to dispatch the Cardinals here in the 1st inning.

    Bottom of 2.

Pez ….thar she blows!…..whacked deep to left and the only thing Nevin can do about it is to give the ball a menacing glare as it’s long gone …1-0 Good Guys.

Carlson goes the other way and slaps it down the 3rd baseline and heading for the left field corner .. . Nevin races over to pick it up as Carlson trots into 2nd base with a standup double.

Yadi hits a comebacker to Watkins and they have Carlson hung out to dry between 3rd and 2nd base and Carlson will be easily tagged out by Mateo at 2nd base for the out

Bader flies out to Hays in straightaway center, as Yadi still occupies 1st base

    Dickerson
