It’s always a pretty good bet that you won’t say something stupid if you keep your mouth shut.
The Cardinals are not a rebuilding team and Arenado should not be traded. They can win the Division.
So if the team was young, exciting and won 83 games you’d take that?
That would be all I could expect in 2025.
This season seems to be setting up for two fun things –
1.) Cheer for the kids to beat up on the older guys with highly bloated salaries. Who think they’re actually worth it.
2.) Cheer for the underdog.
Since it appears that the Arenado trade has been postponed to July I guess our defensive alignment for the first four months of the season will be:
LF Donovan
CF Noot
RF Walker
3B Arenado
SS Winn
2B Gorman
1B Contreras
C Herrera

This situation was several years in the making. When you make many bad decisions over a period of time the chickens eventually come home to roost. Bad signings, bad trades, going cheap on player development, etc…we are now paying the piper.

Agree 100%. My beef now is this final year of publically embarrassing the organization and fans was unnecessary. Mo should have been removed from public view.
Someone asked Arenado for a list of teams he’d allow a trade to. By granting that request, Arenado signed up to be the villain.
Last offseason StL bought 100mil in pitching. This offseason a purge to 100mil under the luxury tax is the goal. Polar opposites.
I see a leadership issue, that resembles chaos, but maybe the FO can count on the fans to pick sides and choose player villains instead.
Bad decisions lead to fewer wins which leads to less revenue which leads to purges which lead to even fewer wins. This death spiral was predicted by Brian over a year ago. But remember what started it? Bad decisions. Unless you are willing to overspend like the Mets, Dodgers, and Yankees you can’t repeatedly make bad decisions and expect success.
GS, the only flag i saw above was “postponement”. I view the FO as sellers, daily, until free agency starts again.
The roster stuff was ballpark enough, for now, but it’s going to be fluid going forward anyway.
Since you can overspend, like teams in the mega markets, you have to improve your player development system. Which they’re doing. I don’t see an issue.
We canned Walt over the same organizational approach long ago. In fact, it’s everyones approach to build a jewel of a PD system. Old news. Sellers.
The problem every team has with player development is you have to build pitching and position players simultaneously. Because pitching injuries are a constant, and quality position players accelerate costs so quickly either through arbitration or extentions, it is almost impossible for these planets to all align even without considering catastrophic injuries.
This idea of a reset only works if the idea is to lower payroll for future high-end spending.The financial reset is accomplished when we snuggle up to MIL and CIN in the 120’s. We will have gone from a 10th to 15th budget ranking, to 20th to 25th.
Dumping Arenado in a HOU scenario today and we are there. Keep Nado and our in-house FA’s accomplish the same 120’s next offseason.

Walt Jocketty was fired for having a backbone. TLR quit for the same reason. And the reality is that there’s a direct correlation between a backbone and philosophical differences.
Is it that Bill doesn’t want to spend any money or is it that Bill doesn’t want Mo spending any money? We will find out next winter.

How do you label it “poor performance” when the Cardinals have had at least 90 victories or more in 3 out of the last 5 full seasons? And only 2 losing seasons this century?
