Ok so Baker exceeded rookie status in 2023, so I predict Koperniak becomes the. new Dane Iorg and hits .320 this year in over 200 at bats.
Cards go 160-1 in regular season.

According to my source, the grand total amount of futility would be 106 losses, which would eclipse the 105 losses that the Cardinals suffered during the 1908 season…OUCH!

1TD – that 1908 club sure was bad. Legendary pitcher Bugs Raymond was our biggest winner with 15 victories. Alas he was also our top loser with a whopping 25 defeats.
John McGraw took a flyer at the talented but personally irresponsible Raymond, hoping he could keep him sober enough to be of some help. But alas, no go and he did not last long in New York. He did not last long in life either, living only to age 30.
Yeah, I’m guessing that all those losses contributed to a substantial drop in season ticket sales for the 1909 season…At any rate, I’m reasonably certain that attendance fell well below the 3M mark…

Dateline 2031 Opening Day

This is a banner year for the Cardinals and it’s BFIB. For the seventh year in a row, the Cardinals bring back 24 or more players from the previous year — this year 26 of the 29 active roster members allowed since 2029.
GM Bloom had a great year in 2030, missing the playoffs by only one game, finishing the season with a 81-81 record, the Cardinal’s best season since going 83-79 in 2026, which was the first year with fan-favorite Tino Martinez at the helm, in the 2nd year of the expanded 18 team playoffs, where Tino led our intrepid Cardinals to their first ‘Wild Card Ring’, and the first of hopefully many as Cardinals skipper, since Mo reset the BFIB winning expectations in 2025 with his long-remembered multimillion dollar marketing initiative WCOB [Wild Card or Bust].
In an exclusive interview with the Non Dispatch, our intrepid Manager Tino was quoted “this will be a banner year for the Cardinals. Our core team is back again. Since Mo took out all the bleachers and outfield seats during the All Star Break in 2025, we’ve had standing room only crowds for several of our games, recalling our glory years at the beginning of the century.”
“And we fully expect to remove the Cardinal red canvas covering from the upper deck Right and Left Field Pavillion FSA [Former Seating Area], if we make the Pre Wild Card Playoffs for the second time in the Bloom Era, though of course the Red Canvas Army, as it is affectionately known, (with detailed photographic imprints of actual authentic fans from a 2021 game) is credited to Mo, allowing the first 28,044 fan sellout in the Bloom Era under the new seating configuration.

[Fans with long memories will remember the walls were brought in to 320 feet in the corners, 340 in the power alleys, and 350 in deep center, in late 2025, in Mo’s final innovation, as he delivered on his promise to reignite the Cardinal power outage before he stepped down].
Once again, Miles Mikolas will be our intrepid ‘Opener’ for 2031, having been stretched out again to 3+ innings, now that McGreevy and Quinn Mathews have both made the Cardinal’s opening roster for the very first time, after McGreevy’s brief cup of coffee in 2029, and after both McGreevy and Mathews were brought up late in August 2030 when the Cardinals were well out of contention for the Pre Wild Card Series.

Cardinals are in contention for the playoffs (within 5 games of a playoff spot). But still do a major sell off. Ironically their winning % improves after the sell off.
About halfway through the season. Time to revisit some of those bold predictions. Mine definitely aren’t looking so good.
While the Cards didn’t have any 10 game streaks in June (or the rest of the year), they did have an 8 game win streak in May and a 5 game win streak and a 6 game losing streak in June. So that’s a sort of point, call it a half.
Walker ain’t leading the team in RBIs, for sure. No points.
Has Arenado turned back time? He’s a little improved, and his defense looks good. Probably won’t get traded at this point. TBD but trending ok. Maybe a quarter point, half possible.
Helsley…TBD if he’s traded but he hasn’t been as good as before, as predicted. Possible full point still in play.
The wild swings in August and September… we’ll see.
So I’d give myself 3/4 of a point out of 5, with 1-1/2 points still easily on the table and a wild guess still to be played out. Not terrible, not great but could be good. Sort of like the team.

The 3 best starters are not McGreevey, Matthews, and Mikolas. Although Mikolas probably is one of the 3 and McGreevey still has a shot. I’ll give myself 1/3 point.
I said only one trade would be made from the roster all season. None so far. But we will see.
75% bullpen turnover from opening day doesn’t seem likely, but still possible.
Baker winning the 1B job looks like a terrible read. That one not aging well.
My last one was that Bling would say one nice thing about management by season’s end. I don’t recall anything yet, but he certainly has been less critical. I’m giving myself 1/3 point for this one as it feels like there’s a chance.
2/3 point with some other possibles in the works.
1. Helsley, Fedde, Mikolas, and Matz are all former Cardinals by July 31.
2. Marmol is retained for 2026 to finish out his contract. (The Cardinals don’t like eating money). Depending on who is available look for Pujols, Molina, or Schumaker to lead the club for 2027.
3. The only 2025 all-star representative is Donovan.
4. Quinn Matthews is called up in late May and leads the team with 10 wins.
5. The Cardinals end up trading Nolan but it is Gorman instead of Arenado.

I never make predictions, especially about the future, but I’d guess Billy Jr. ain’t too happy about the gate count for the first Cardinals/Cubs series of the ’25 season. I’d also guess that he might move the team to Little Rock.
