ParticipantThanks for your response, Jnevel. What unique qualities do you see?
Also, what happened to the old procedure of inviting players to camp under a minor league contract with a chance to earn a spot on the major league roster?

ParticipantIsn’t it an indication of his character that he won’t even fly in to sign autographs for 2 hours for the Cardinals charity? He pulled the same stunt in 2024.

ParticipantDo you have to have paid for an autograph to get into the room where a player (or players) are signing? Takes a lot of fun out of it if you can’t watch the players signing and interacting with fans.

ParticipantIs Brian taking this week off? Did I miss that?

ParticipantLooking forward to today’s “Wednesdays with Walton”.

ParticipantIn the old location, where the players doing the autographs could be seen by general attendees in the big room with the stage, it was interesting to watch how the players interacted with fans as they came up for the autograph.
Is it still that way, or do you have to have an autograph ticket to get into a private area where the signings take place?

ParticipantHave heard that the Red Sox deal is pretty much done.

ParticipantI talked to an analytics software developer several weeks ago, and he said “data analytics are only useful as a tool”. It’s how they’re applied (as a framework) that’s important. And “the experience and expertise used in applying them are the keys”. That’s what Bloom and crew bring to the table.

ParticipantApplied analytics are more important than raw logistics. The new guys have successful experience in how to apply logistics.

ParticipantSaggese could be a right handed Donovan.

ParticipantThere was only one big name player who didn’t sign autographs last Winter Warm Up to help raise money for the Cardinals charitable arm. Any guesses who it was?

ParticipantOne of the ways to get to know the minor leaguers better is to Google them and add “interview video”.
For instance, Google “Jimmy Crooks interview video”. Up will come multiple interviews he has done for various media outlets in the minor league city. I do this for most of our top prospects. Some of the answers to interview questions are interesting as well as getting to see what the players are really like.I hope BW is able to do some of these interviews while in Florida and post them for TCN subscribers.

ParticipantTCN is one of the very best forums for following the Cardinals minor leaguers, due to BW. The Cardinal fans’ spotlight will now be on the development system and how guys learn with updated technology and improved instruction. I’m sure BW is very happy about that.

ParticipantGood edition. I like Hansen a little better than
some do. Nice junior season at U. of Texas in 2022 and then at PB in 2023. Not great at Peoria this season but might have been working on some things.bccran
ParticipantLooks like they added Hence, Roby, Svanson, and Koperniak to the 40 man today to protect them. Glad to see Koperniak added.

ParticipantI’m predicting an OF of Burleson (LF), Nootbaar (CF), and Walker (RF)
in 2025.bccran

ParticipantIn the minors, Saggese has over 100 innings at 3B and over 100 innings at SS. Assuming he may not have a left side of the infield arm may not be totally accurate.

ParticipantBB – I wonder if the Cards were trying to save money by not having sophisticated tracking equipment and a small amount of roving instructors, or Gary LaRocque just had the game pass him by.

ParticipantBB – I’m afraid that Petrutz is going to have to stay at corner outfield.
I just hope he has enough power.bccran
ParticipantMy vote for Ian Petrutz this round was not in jest. He had a slash line at Palm Beach this season of .344/.483/.433/.916. K rate of 8.7%.
More Ws than Ks. He outhit JJ Wetherholt at the same level. I tracked him through U. of Maryland and then at U. of Alabama. He had an OBP this season of .447 with an OPS of .927 in the SEC before being drafted. Plus I read some scouting reports and watched several video interviews. Good guy. -
