There was only one big name player who didn’t sign autographs last Winter Warm Up to help raise money for the Cardinals charitable arm. Any guesses who it was?
One of the ways to get to know the minor leaguers better is to Google them and add “interview video”.
For instance, Google “Jimmy Crooks interview video”. Up will come multiple interviews he has done for various media outlets in the minor league city. I do this for most of our top prospects. Some of the answers to interview questions are interesting as well as getting to see what the players are really like.I hope BW is able to do some of these interviews while in Florida and post them for TCN subscribers.
TCN is one of the very best forums for following the Cardinals minor leaguers, due to BW. The Cardinal fans’ spotlight will now be on the development system and how guys learn with updated technology and improved instruction. I’m sure BW is very happy about that.

some do. Nice junior season at U. of Texas in 2022 and then at PB in 2023. Not great at Peoria this season but might have been working on some things.Looks like they added Hence, Roby, Svanson, and Koperniak to the 40 man today to protect them. Glad to see Koperniak added.
In the minors, Saggese has over 100 innings at 3B and over 100 innings at SS. Assuming he may not have a left side of the infield arm may not be totally accurate.
BB – I wonder if the Cards were trying to save money by not having sophisticated tracking equipment and a small amount of roving instructors, or Gary LaRocque just had the game pass him by.
BB – I’m afraid that Petrutz is going to have to stay at corner outfield.
I just hope he has enough power.My vote for Ian Petrutz this round was not in jest. He had a slash line at Palm Beach this season of .344/.483/.433/.916. K rate of 8.7%.
More Ws than Ks. He outhit JJ Wetherholt at the same level. I tracked him through U. of Maryland and then at U. of Alabama. He had an OBP this season of .447 with an OPS of .927 in the SEC before being drafted. Plus I read some scouting reports and watched several video interviews. Good guy.Word has it that Saggese is one of the young players that they want to give a lot of playing time to. Do they play him at 2B, or move him to 3B if Arenado is traded?
Good WWW this week, covering some guys that aren’t generally talked about, but put up good numbers this season. Especially intrigued with Petrutz out hitting Wetherholtz.

The problem with being great every year is that the financial dynamics have changed. Free agency has led to enormous contracts with the mid to small market teams literally unable to compete for the super stars. They simple don’t have the cable contracts to do that. So a team has to tank to get high draft choices, or have a state of the art terrific system in place for minor league player development. Which is what the Cardinals are putting into place. Finally.
Anyone know why he skipped Winter Warm Up this year? That seemed strange. Cardinal Care’s big fundraising event for charities.
