Hjerpe with a much better start tonight. 4 shutout innings with 6 Ks and 0 BBs. But too bad they only let him go 4 innings with 61 pitches.
Mississippi State has a really intriguing pitcher. Jurrangelo Cijntje is a borderline first round talent. What makes him interesting though is he is a switch pitcher. He has been throwing right handed more lately, but he does throw with both arms and will swap it up and throw lefty to some lefty batters.
Regarding Hence’s innings, he has pitched 6 innings each of the last 3 starts. They are letting him build up and did so over the years by adding 30 or so innings each year. He will likely pitch 120-130 this year, and be up to basically a modern MLB SP innings workload next year. Hence is still just about 22 despite it being his 4th season in the org. His workload is probably right on track with the college drafted guys for his age.
I’m not sure why they are treating Hjerpe with kid gloves. I understand that approach for HS who really need to build up innings and a full season, but Hjerpe threw good innings in college. They need to let him go out there and throw 100 pitches a game. The best way for him to work on his command is to throw more pitches
Hence has pitched very well and is striking out 31.7% of batters while only walking 7.5%. I imagine he will be promoted to AAA soon and then maybe we will see him in STL sometime next summer. Hence looks to have #2 or 3 upside.
Graceffo doesn’t look fully recovered from the shoulder stuff to me as he command is off and his velocity isn’t back where it was pre injury. Shoulder problems take a while to fully recover from so I hope he improves throughout the year and looks much better after another off-season. If he does recover, he looks like a #4/5 type.
I don’t have much hope for McGreevy being anything beyond a depth starter who makes spot starts here and there and may make a few more starts as a #5 for a team desperate for innings.
Those darn metrics helping the Brewers pitching factory churn out pitcher after pitcher. What Gasser is describing is being a pitcher not a thrower with the metrics guiding him.
As for anything that might have changed philosophically when he went from the Padres to the Brewers, his answer came with a caveat.
“With a new organization there are definitely new ideas and ways to approach pitching,” Gasser said. “With San Diego, I felt it was more so first-pitch strikes and strikes in 1-1 counts. That’s still important here, but as I went to the higher levels they placed more emphasis on knowing which pitches are the right pitches to throw at the right time. Obviously, I was at the lower levels with San Diego, and I imagine they have more advanced stuff at the higher levels. But the Brewers pride themselves on their ability to know what’s right based on metrics and data. I’m very trusting in what they’ve told me.”

Robert Gasser Is Making the Josh Hader Trade Look Better for the Brewers
.500 and in 2nd place. Who would have thought we would be here a month ago. Hopefully we can keep up the winning ways. The offense looks much better and more along the lines of what I expected.

Haha I thought the same thing about AA. The odds of Arenado going to that AA are probably higher than the level AA unless it is on rehab
The Brewers can’t catch a break on pitchers. Their closer Megill just took a rocket line drive off a bone in the forearm and immediately was taken out of the game. The Cubs runner from 2nd scored since Megill was in so much pain he couldn’t think to pick up the ball in front of the mound.
Milb has an article about on one of our prospects Giulianelli and his screwball. The other day I was wondering if anyone still throws the pitch still. They have a video clip of it and it is nasty.

What is the point of having a limit on challenges if you can just keep going out and asking the crew chief for one?
KCB, I obviously hope Winn wins it, but yeah my opinion (and of many other such as betting sites) is Ortiz would be 2nd behind Shoto. No one is winning if over Shoto if he keeps pitching even remotely close to how good he has been.
And that play is where Winn rated as below average so far with the glove. Certainly a lot of promise, but he needs to polish a little bit. He has the potential is my eye to be above average with the glove though.
I remember reading Ortiz has a good glove, and it is better than I recall. MLB pipeline had him at 65 and Fangepahs 70. Winn is at 60 and 50 respectively, but with a much, much better arm.
Ortiz has a higher WAR according to Fangraphs since they use OAA. His triple slash is better as well. Ortiz would also be the SS for the Brewers if Adames weren’t a really good glove. He will probably suit up as their Opening Day SS next year.
Ortiz .278/.376/.492 with 1.4 fWAR and 147 wRC+
Winn .300/.353/.433 with 1.1 fWAR and 125 wRC+1TD, no disrespect to how good Winn has been playing, but Joey Ortiz has been better so far and would win the RoY at this point if Shoto weren’t a rookie.
I don’t think Arenado has any trade value unless we eat the whole contract, and then it is pointless in trading him anyway. He would probably go heat up elsewhere. You have to just wait it out in my opinion. Arenado is a HoF level player (was on the trajectory), and is still 33. Sure he has been really bad the last couple of weeks, but he is likely just a few adjustments away from getting it working again. And at least his glove has been helping the team in the meantime. I know he has had some errors lately, but he is still been above average according to Outs Above Average.
