Pallante wasn’t exactly good in Memphis. He walked a lot of hitters and didn’t really strike anyone out. But, he got ground balls which help erase runners with double plays. I guess we’ll hope for something similar. I’m hoping for 4 effective innings and 2 runs allowed. I’m expecting 3 innings and 2-3 runs allowed with lots of traffic. Even though I’m pessimistic (or maybe realistic) about Pallante’s start, I actually think this is the best decision for the Cards right now. For one, Pallante doesn’t give up many fly balls. That’s good for Great American Ballpark where home runs are easy to hit. I also think Robberse just isn’t quite ready yet and I’d rather not expose him earlier than needed. And Thompson just needs time to figure himself out (tonight was maybe a step forward for him but still too many walks). Pallante buys time for others. And you never know, maybe he finds the same groove he found his rookie season where he was an ok fill in starter.

He may not have been exactly good in Memphis, but he’s armed with the “death ball” pitch…Maybe that’ll get us to .500 if it doesn’t kill us first…

Yah, a new pitch isn’t the easiest to command. He bounced many to the plate. But that was then, lets see where he’s at.
Oli, no “bullpen start” lineup! We need to win this road series.

We have our hand on the rim of the toilet as we try to climb out and get level for the season.

Can the Cards do it? We’ll find out.

The last I checked in on pallante he was walking a lot of guys. Must have been working on stuff. It will be interesting to see how he looks. I agree there’s nothing else to send out there, despite all the new guys slotting in near the top of the pipeline.

In fairness, they never specified for which team his pitch is a “death ball” . . .

Some of them were up late last night and contemplating rehab.

    Ha! Top form indeed.
Pallante is going to need the A-Team D. Not the best game to trott out the bench D. Hint!

If Donny needs a day off, I wouldn’t mind Siani in CF, w/Noot and Carlson on the corners. Burly at DH. Likely our best D outfield.

Siani/Carlson were 2 fer 4 with a walk last night in 5 PA’s. That’s added production the lineup isn’t used to. Helps make 7 runs possible.

Gonna be interesting to have Burly at cleanup and Gorman at #5 against the RHP. Actually, after last night, I wish Arenado had the chance to build on that performance.

Too late, you already demoted Arenado to AA yesterday afternoon.

RBK, quit being so adversarial. My suggestion was for Arenado to go and work on his swing with less pressure to perform. It was not a demotion. Try being more rational. It was good to see Arenado have a good game. I would have liked to see him follow up on that success.

But 24 hours later you really want him in the lineup . . .

RBK, situations change. Opinions change. Just like opinions of Burleson have changed with many former critics. Give me a break, man.

A broken record, but I still think they should just put Libby in as the fifth starter and quit jerking him around. Pallante is terrible, although saying that he will probably put up five zeros today and then it over to the bullpen.

According to MLB trade rumors, Keyon Middleton had setback and the are now considering UCL surgery. I was never on board with this signing as I’d have rather they had offered extra cash to better starters than Lynn and Gibson. I sure have been wrong about them so far.

Perhaps the plan today is to get 4-5 innings from Pallante and 2-3 innings from Liberatore

The reason the Cardinals keep moving Libby around is because they desperately want him to be a starter but he keeps reminding them why that is a bad idea.

In his MLB career as a starter he is 4-8, 5.99 era, 1.69 whip, and .305 ba against.
As a reliever he is 2-2, 4.11 era, 1.17 whip, and .215 ba against.

They need to keep him in the pen instead of trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

I’ll have to miss this one.

I’ll be down at the Gasthof, the Amish restaurant, for my weekly late lunch. Din-din will be some fried chicken, roast beef, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, noodles, dressing, sweet iced tea, cherry cobbler, and some soft serve vanilla ice cream. And then afterwards a cigar out on the front porch.

I’ll be checking the score on the IPhone.

    Ok, DP strands the runners.

Not crazy about Carp over Carlson. One is a dead end the other needs playing time. I’d have preferred Carlsons D too. So, go ahead and go 4 fer 4 Carp.

Just now tuned in to see Carpenter tater-up! Why’s Arenado not in the lineup?
