Burly with a HR as well? I guess he said hold my beer while I catch up to Gorman’s OPS

Yeah 1TD if you sort the Cards pitchers on Runs allowed, Lynn is 2nd behind Mikolas. All of Mikolas’s 40 runs are earned. No other pitcher even has close to the ratio of unearned to earned as Lynn does either.

Lynn has not been lucky with getting a lot of run support or the defense playing well behind him. He only has a 3.38 ERA, but his RA/9 is around 4.8. He has allowed 31 runs, but only 22 earned. Not all of that is him as it is the D, but it seems Lynn has a hard time pitching around errors and almost always lets that runner score.

I see Gorman had another HR. He has been much better the last month and is picking up steam.

After talking about Chase Davis being a disappointment in other threads, he has had 2 good games in a row at least. Hopefully something has clicked and he can keep it up.

Yesterday 2 for 4 with a HR and SB
    Today 2 for 4 with a BB and 2 2B

MIL got Esteury Ruiz and Gasser out of the deal. Ruiz turned into William Contreras via the 3 team deal with Atlanta and Oakland. Gasser has been pitching very well so far and looks to be a good rotation piece.

If Stl doesn’t want to spend at the luxury cap level or tank for years on end, then they need to do a hybrid approach of selling high on players when they can and always looking out for young players. We aren’t a top payroll team, but we are ahead of MIL. We can take the same approach, but with the luxury of keeping some stars around / bringing in quality FA like Gray.

Edit: They also got Taylor Rodgers who was their closer the rest of the year before becoming a FA. They took the hybrid approach quite literally getting MLB players to help win and young talent that was almost MLB ready

Bling, isn’t the more reasonable explanation that Davis has a hole in his swing/approach that even Low A pitching has exploited? Davis was reported to have a great work ethic and love of the game. That was part of the reason I liked the pick. Sometimes things don’t work out though and you have to learn from it. In this case, swing and miss issues in college shouldn’t be overlooked is the lesson I took away.

Regarding Flores, this is a quote from him. You act like the Cards are a pure analytics org that is just a robot, but I have never seen anything from public entity state the Cards are an analytics org. The only thing you hear about the Cards and analytics is how they are so far behind on modern analytics of the top performing teams in the league.

During our evaluations, we learned of his tremendous work ethic and deep love of the game, giving our scouting department confidence that he will develop to become the best player possible.

I’m not saying Flores did a good job with the pick, but at least dont throw out unbiased accusations of someone’s work ethic with no evidence.

Yeah Helsey has 1.5 years left here, but you could likely get a quality player out of him as well as he has played. This team needs bats for the future. I would hedge my bets on trading a RP that will get expensive like Milwaukee did with Hader to get someone of value. The return on Helsey is going to be much higher if you trade him this year and it sounds like other teams are very interested in him.

Yeah Church doesn’t have a whole lot of upside, but with him playing CF some, he could be a depth piece more realistically or a 4th OF more optimistically. Even a depth piece provides good value to a franchise and we need to churn some of them out. Look at our current OF situation with Edman and Noot out. We could really use someone that can play a respectable OF defense while not being dead weight offensively. Just playing at replacement level would be an upgrade over what we will be rolling out for an OF on days Siani or Donovan are out.

I agree we probably realistically around a .500 team. With so many playoff teams now, that puts us competing for a wild card if we do end up a couple of games over .500. Depending on how the market shakes up, there may not be a lot of teams selling at the deadline. I would maybe try to pull some hybrid moves of trying to win while also selling if players could get a good return. If there are only a half dozen or so full sellers, then the return should be quite good.

I really like Helsey, but if the Cards don’t see him signing a reasonable extension to stay in STL, I would sell while his value is high even if we are in contention. Baltimore will surely be in the market for a closer. I would love Mayo or Hjerstad, but I doubt unless we include someone else of good value, we could get either just from Helsey. Beavers/Norby + someone else would likely be a more realistic return.

Unfortunate this game is on ESPN. 2 Sundays in a row. At least we have avoided the Friday Apple TV games for a while, but we are probably due for one soon.

Any word on Donovan? I really don’t want to see Burly out in LF consistently. They mentioned on the broadcast last night Fermin was trying to play the OF in Memphis. Hopefully he is getting some practice time out there and can take LF if Donovan isn’t playing.

Burns has way too much reliever risk. He has a violent throwing motion and still needs to develop a quality 3rd pitcher.

Well there isn’t much point in saying too much of you’re using BA alone as the judge of a hitter. Noot gets on base at a really good rate, drives up pitch counts, and has some pop in his bat too. The overall MLB offensive levels are down, so Noots stats get him to 17% better than the average hitter. By WAR Noot is tied with Winn for 2nd on the team since Noot plays good defense and is a slightly above average base runner

I feel much less confident in the team with Noot out. The offense and defense both see a big downgrade.

In theory, it seems you could let him pitch righty half the game, and lefty the other half. What better way to go deeper in the game and remove the three times through the order effect.
