gscottar, the thing is, should Arenado be in the heart of the order if he’s so confused right now?

No but it isn’t like we are loaded with a ton of options.

Seems a short trip to Springfield (AA) for a stretch might be practical.

I don’t think the Cardinals are going to send a $32M player to AA. They are just going to have to ride it out with him and hope he can get things figured out.

In the offseason I would try to offload him and install Gorman at 3B in 2025.

Send Arenado to AA? Practical? Do you understand that Arenado would have to agree to be sent to the minors (at any level, let alone AA)? Do you really think that’s going to happen? It’s strange, you had more patience for an unproven player like Burleson than you do for an 8x All-Star with an actual track record.

RBK, you don’t get it. Maybe Arenado would want to do what’s best for the team right now. At the same time work on his hitting with less pressure to perform It would be temporary. Sheesh !

No, you don’t get it. There is no realistic Plan B for multiple core players playing below their baselines. Goldschmidt, Arenado, Donovan, Nootbaar, etc. are either going to revert closer to their means, or the Cardinals will fail, because a team with a $170-175mm payroll isn’t going to just replace multiple core players, especially in the middle of the season. And no, calling up guys like Prieto or Saggese (and his 74 wRC+ at Memphis) is in no way a realistic Plan B.

And if you were a player of Arenado’s stature and track record, would you agree to be shipped to Springfield on a whim to “work things out,” whatever that means?

RBK, as usual, we disagree. As you know, I’ve taken a lot of flack over the years for my support of Burleson. Are you finally coming around and becoming a Burly fan. Many have switched gears and are now warming up to Burleson being a viable MLB player. Are you?

    1. This thread shouldn’t exist; it belongs in the pinned Trade Ideas thread at the top of the forum.
    2. This is your sixth “trade Arenado” post since April, yet we’re still waiting for your actual trade idea/proposal for Arenado to the Dodgers (or any other destination) that would realistically make sense for the teams involved.
    3. Once again, an MLB franchise (and roster) cannot be run like every day is an open tryout. This isn’t high school sports.
    4. Let’s try to stay on topic, shall we?

They’re scared to hurt his feelings by moving him down in the batting order. Pretty sure Springfield is out of the question. And Bling, it’s hard to take you seriously as a poster when everything you suggest is so anti front office. Blaming them for Arenados suckness is truly absurd.

Not sure why Arenado has missed some fairly easy plays of late. He is in a funk on both sides.

But with both Goldy and Nolie, I think the best course of action is to see where we are in early July, and how they are producing. If we are in the hunt and they are doing well, stay the course for this year. If we are out of it, explore trade opportunities.

RBK, you’d make an outstanding monitor. If you weren’t so biased. Your following my posting history like a puppy is kind of comical.

    Are we still ditching Arenado?

As soon as we find someone to take on 3 1/2 years of his salary and his .677 OPS!!!

Haha!…I saw the comment that suggested he be sent to AA. I thought maybe he had a drinking problem…

That could explain his offensive performance this year!

Haha!…I don’t know, LA, Hack Wilson once had a season in which he pushed 191 runs across HP…

You can only bring up Cubs when you are making fun of them and their supporters.

Haha I thought the same thing about AA. The odds of Arenado going to that AA are probably higher than the level AA unless it is on rehab

I see where Wong can’t even stick on a minor league contract. He’s the same age as Arenado.

Maybe he can join Arenado in AA Springfield . . .

On thing about Arenado, he is a high character guy that is passionate about his craft and more frustrated than we are when he’s not right. He will keep working overtime to find the power stroke he has had. Let’s hope he can discover it sooner rather than later.

Arenado to Double A? God man. That makes no sense.

Might be time to move Alec Burleson while he still has some trade value. He’s starting to regress back to his career norm. His lack of any power whatsoever is troubling. Fat, slow singles hitters rarely have long MLB careers, although he may thrive in a beer softball league.

AdM, You are hilarious. And suffer from ABS (anti Burly Syndrome). Burleson is fine. He is a serious offensive threat. Especially, against RHP. You might deny it. But the Cardinals know what an offensive threat he provides. Burleson will be in the lineup against the Phillies outstanding RHPs in the upcoming series.
