3:10 p.m.
RHP Lance Lynn (2-2, 3.68) vs. LHP Nick Lodolo (3-2, 3.34)
BSM // KMOX
Also BS Southeast and Southwest ExtraMay 26, 2024 at 7:10 pm #253746Will Lynn still get this start if the Sunday night game is ultimately postponed?
And the Reds just swept the Doyers. They had lost something like 16 of 20 and then, boom, they sweep the Doyers. Let’s hope this is just some sort of cosmic anomaly and they are NOT starting a hot streak.
Then again, the Cards have won four in a row as well.

May 26, 2024 at 11:35 pm #253819I guess Lynn will indeed get this start at Crosley Field on Memorial Day.
And is it safe to assume that the big three – Kittredge, Romero, and Helsley – are all three unavailable for this one since they all pitched the last two days.
The way they have been getting hit I think I might give them two days off. Hopefully the bats will be rolling and they won’t be needed in this one.

May 27, 2024 at 12:05 am #253823Afternoon game after a late game.
Bullpen will be shot.
Just have to try to gut this one out.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI’d like to see Carlson start vs the lefty.
May 27, 2024 at 6:58 am #253834JJ who would you sit?
May 27, 2024 at 7:08 am #253835I’d like to see Carlson start vs the lefty.
Just about the time I get ready to make a post about Sianis noodle bat and how Carlson should be playing, I see the stat that he’s one of the 5 best defenders in MLB. I’m disappointed in Carlsons offense. He needs to sub in for Donovan against lefty pitching. I wouldn’t mess with Siani. Carlson will hit lh pitching if given some at bats. It’s not going to get any easier to get him some playing time when Contreras gets back.
May 27, 2024 at 7:15 am #253836
jj-cf-stlParticipantVs a lefty I’d sit the -43 ops+ Bling.
May 27, 2024 at 7:28 am #253837
jj-cf-stlParticipantCarlson would upgrade a corner over Donny defensively. Offensively vs lefties, Donny is currently a 100 ops+, 143% better with the bat vs lefties, than Siani.
Carlson likely gets 2 PA’s vs a lefty batting ninth, each start, then mix and match whoever the pen arms are. Sinai’s D gets back on the field before games end. Possibly for the third CF PA of the game. I can’t sit Donny.
May 27, 2024 at 7:58 am #253844Valid arguments. I tend to rely on “feel” sometimes. Siani makes both the other outfielders less bad. All of Donovans offensive metrics are better. But that isn’t saying much right now. He’s well below all of his career averages. He is also a player, even when going well, I feel needs to play only 5 days a week. So there’s that. My final answer-Donny and his 0.0 WAR sit for Sianis .3 WAR and Carlson gets a chance to get some at bats. Our defense really will be much better.

jj-cf-stlParticipantOpposing opinions are a healthy crosscheck of our own opinions. Thanks for yours KCB. I like that you and I can discuss, without the argument thing 😉
May 27, 2024 at 8:21 am #253850Agreed JJ. Plus you force me into doing a little homework to support (or refute) my opinions rather than just throwing it against the wall.
May 27, 2024 at 8:27 am #253852
jj-cf-stlParticipantI work off memory too much, when I’m “wind talking”, so keep a close eye on me!
May 27, 2024 at 10:09 am #253863Lodolo had a 2.62 HR/9 last year, albeit in limited innings returning from the injury. And Lynn led the league in qualified pitchers with 2.16 HR/9. With this game being in Cincy, we may see a few HRs today. Who knows though and maybe we end up seeing a pitching duel.
May 27, 2024 at 11:03 am #253866Carlson is the Liberatore of position players. They both have that 1st round Teflon sheen that prevents multiple failed attempts from sticking.
May 27, 2024 at 11:41 am #253868
jj-cf-stlParticipantCarlson I’d like to at least get trade ready for the deadline. Start feeding him PA’s at what he does best.
May 27, 2024 at 12:02 pm #253869SS Masyn Winn R
LF A. Burleson L
1B P. Goldschmidt R
DH Ivan Herrera R
3B N. Arenado R
RF D. Carlson S
2B Nolan Gorman L
C Pedro Pages R
CF Mike Siani LMay 27, 2024 at 12:38 pm #253875I think Siani needs to play everyday until we obtain a better option. ESPN posted the stat last night about him being one of the top defenders in all of MLB at any position based on outs above average, therefore, he doesn’t have to hit to bring a lot of value to this team.
Rat, I agree about the big three in the bullpen. They definitley won’t be available today and I would probably give them Tuesday off as well. They look gassed. The Cubs knocked all three of them around hard. We were fortunate to win those games.
This is going to be a tough series since we are shorthanded in the pen and Wednesday’s starter could be an adventure but we just have to grind it out and find a way to win anyway. As I have said before I really think Libby needs to be in the pen. He looks much more comfortable there than as a starter. The Arozarena trade is over Mo. Let it go.
May 27, 2024 at 1:18 pm #253879Burleson batting #2 in the lineup against a LHP is quite interesting. Winn’s speed and Burly’s contact ability might be a good combo in front of Goldy. Now, Arenado needs to pick it up.
May 27, 2024 at 1:20 pm #253881Why is Herrera batting cleanup and Arenado hitting 5th?
May 27, 2024 at 1:35 pm #253884
jj-cf-stlParticipantWell done KCB. Your “final answer” agrees w/Oli! Oh wait….
Good call on the lineup.May 27, 2024 at 1:53 pm #253885Yeah Shady, Burleson and the guy slotted at lead-off in front of him are 18 for 41 and 14 for 37 respectively in their last 10 games. I don’t see how placing each of them up higher in the order could be avoided. Someone must have finally noticed.
May 27, 2024 at 3:14 pm #253896Goldy! Maybe he just needs warmer weather to heat up
May 27, 2024 at 3:15 pm #253898My goodness…He’s ripping the baseball like he’s mad at it! 1-0, Redbirds.
May 27, 2024 at 3:16 pm #253899I’m sorry anything negative I said about Goldy. My bad.
