For three weeks our man Burleson looked like a Major League hitter! He did, he did.
Sadly, he is now back to being the hapless hitter he’s been for the majority of his MLB career.
How bad has it gotten? Last seven games he’s hitting .172 with a .200 OBP and .172 Slugging %. His OPS now stands at a paltry .711! 160 ABs on the year and all he has is 11 XBHs. 11. Pathetic.
For a while I thought he had turned a corner. I really did. But it’s beginning to look like all he is is a fine AAAA hitter.
June 2, 2024 at 6:02 am #254666Why do you feel this thread is necessary? The obsession some new arrivals have brought with them about the poster who has an obsession about this player is downright odd. Regular posters here are more than tired of the constant baiting and hyperfocus on this one player.
And if you don’t like all the Burly talk, try ignoring it.
To that end, let’s let this thread die a slow death.

Why do you feel this thread is not necessary?
For 3 weeks Burleson rejuvenated our offense. Now he’s fading hard and fast. Do you not wonder who he is? The guy who tore the cover off the ball for 3 weeks or the guy with a career OPS UNDER .700?
These are exactly THE types of conversations we had as young men in local taverns and saloons after long days of work back in the 80’s before the internet!
If we’re not here to discuss Cardinal players and the team, what are we here for?
June 2, 2024 at 12:32 pm #254696The point is that the discussion can be had within existing threads.
June 2, 2024 at 12:42 pm #254700^^^^^^
Which one? And why didn’t he say that?
June 2, 2024 at 12:49 pm #254702Take your pick but usually game threads become a catch all for a variety of different topics.
June 2, 2024 at 1:26 pm #254704^^^^^^^
Fair enough. I’ll take it under advisement.
June 2, 2024 at 2:02 pm #254708The constant defense of the problematic poster here is curious. Everyone else is wrong?
That said, I hope “Burly” rights the ship. Given the attrition in the thin outfield lineup, his consistency is required.
June 2, 2024 at 2:15 pm #254711^^^^^^
We all hope he becomes a star.
But at this point, I don’t know what to think. Is he good Burleson, or bad Burleson?
Really hard to say as he has such a spotty track record.

jj-cf-stlParticipantBefore and after, you bet AdM, the GT’s are catch all threads. We even talk food while waiting for game time, so….
During the game we throw almost everything else out, and fine focus on the game, and from what I can tell it seems to be the preferred that way.
Of course after, we do the water cooler thing too. Besides, the next GT is waiting on a lineup to be posted.
June 2, 2024 at 7:10 pm #254767I guess Shady got the last laugh lawyer.

I’m rooting for Burleson. It was a massive shot. Cards need him to hit like this.
With that said, it was his first XBH in his last 53 ABs. Not sure I’d be tooting my horn just yet.
June 2, 2024 at 8:10 pm #254806If I was Burleson I would be tooting my horn. But I’m not Burleson.
June 2, 2024 at 9:32 pm #254870Burly has a hopeless, loyal fan who will “toot his horn” regardless of performance. Pleased his shot kept the Cards in the game and that Gorman picked him up in the 10th.
June 9, 2024 at 4:01 pm #255719What’s your Cardinals lineup when Contreras returns? The top six will be very interesting.
June 9, 2024 at 4:07 pm #255720Burleson hitting 1-9, for every MLB team.
Sorry Soto and Betts.
The tribe has spoken.
June 9, 2024 at 4:14 pm #255722Dang BOCfan, you are becoming more obsessed with Burly than me. lol
June 9, 2024 at 4:21 pm #255723When I think of Soto, OBP is the first thing that comes to mind. I always found it interesting that in the catergory of all time career OBP leaders, right behind Tris Speaker and Eddie Collins is a guy named Ferris Fain who despite compiling a .424 career OBP, he never once scored more than 83 runs in a season in his 9 year career.
June 9, 2024 at 4:58 pm #255726To complicate the lineup possibilities even further. What lineup will Oli go with when both Contreras and Nootbaar return? One way or the other, it’s going to be a fairly deep lineup. Especially, when when Edman also returns. Brian, I’d be particularly interested in what your lineup would be.
June 9, 2024 at 5:06 pm #255730“the catergory of all time career OBP leaders, right behind Tris Speaker and Eddie Collins is a guy named Ferris Fain who despite compiling a .424 career OBP, he never once scored more than 83 runs in a season in his 9 year career.”
Fain played on some pretty poor Philadelphia A’s teams. When I think of the Philadelphia A’s and OBP, a guy ahead of his time was Max Bishop. Connie Mack had him lead off, despite being a lifetime .271 hitter during an era of high octane offense. But he has a lifetime .423 OBP. He scored 100+ runs four straight years including all three seasons the A’s won the AL pennant.
June 9, 2024 at 5:10 pm #255731When Noot returns, I’m guessing Firmin goes back to Memphis. I also think Noot will go into RF and Siani will stay in CF. That would have Burly and Donovan handling LF and DH. A question mark is whether Noot will go straight into a top of the lineup slot or start out down. The batting order will look better once Contreras and Noot are back, that much is for sure.
June 9, 2024 at 5:53 pm #255737Yeah Bikemike. I noticed Max Bishop too and he’s an interesting anecdote as well but, as you mentioned, he scored over 100 runs for 4 seasons in a row and was a catalyst for those A’s teams. In any event, it always seemed odd to me for a guy to consistently have an OBP over .400 and not score a lot of runs.
June 9, 2024 at 6:05 pm #255738It’s pretty cool to see Winn’s overall evolution as an MLB hitter. And Burleson’s power is starting to evolve in addition to Gorman’s. Now, if Walker can start clicking at the MLB level. The Cards might really have an exciting offense.

June 9, 2024 at 7:08 pm #255745My granddaughter said Burleson has funny hair. Should we have a ‘Burleson Has Funny Hair’ thread?
