Yeah payroll flexibility! I honestly think the organization looks at the fans as some bucktooth hillbillies who pay for cable and don’t have internet. A couple of us color within the lines and have all of our teeth and have seen this before.

And this posturing someone referred. I compare it to waiting for a teaser after the Star Wars Movies. Sure there’s that 1% chance but deep down inside you know this isn’t Marvel and you’ve wasted ten minutes of your time when you could’ve been on the way home.

I still can’t believe it. Bullpen is “good enough”

Yeah but Nicasio and Reed weren’t long term commitments. You can still figure things out with your assets in the higher levels. I mean Bowman will likely hit the DL after being burned out.
Reyes wont be ready until May 1st barring any setbacks. Lyons I believe was on the DL last season. Reyes might have command issues that may end up him being sent down when he returns, Gregorson will likely be removed from his closer role for a time and your rotation will likely have someone hit the DL. Point being it’s pitching! It’s the most fragile piece of a ball club. You’ll have the opportunity to showcase players on your staff and pen throughout the season. What would it have hurt to make a 2 year commitment to either player and solidify the back end of your bullpen? I get the mileage leaves the door open to a lost or injury riddled season out of two years but that just something you need to stick your neck out and hope for the best. You can’t be gun shy just because some of your signings in the pen have flat out blown up in your face.

Luke Gregorson! I’m still shaking my head. I hope Reyes is ready to roll May 1st. We will need him!

Hicks hasn’t even gotten past A ball. Helsley maybe is a contributor at some point this season. We really can’t afford to dick around like this but it seems that they’ve thrown this team together and it’s what they want.

How can this ownership dumpster dive this pitching staff like it has? It’s borderline neglect with the guy managing in the dugout.

Yeah if they had any intentions on going after Holland they’d held out on that statement. Not saying that with 100% confidence but

If this is it and we add nothing else. Were not making the playoffs again. Not with the staff in current construction.

And Reed at that price and him bluntly saying “I want to play in the midwest”. There’s just no reason we couldnt get that done. Was the 1,000 seats we yanked out for that new terrace the deciding factor???

Seems like a steep price that it appears on paper in normal seasons this team didn’t seem to want to pay.

If they keep him I’m not too worried about it but it would seem Bader would be a better fit. We shall see!

Except he wasn’t back to his old self. No one really knows if he’ll ever get back these bue one things for sure you’ll know if you’ve got the old Greg Holland or the 2017 1.4 whip Holland with a down tick in fastball.

I’m not super stoked on Holland. This could be problematic down the road.

The bullpen has to be rock solid with so many questions in the rotation.

He didn’t even average 6 innings a start. I know the trend is going towards 6 man rotation and multiple inning relievers and he did pitch a lot the last 2 seasons but his numbers are running downward.

Almost like We should revisit Lynn.

Just my 2 cents but I don’t think Hosmer or Boras want to end up in San Diego. I know he can hit to all fields but he’s not going to like being a lefty in San Diego. IT will dig into his power for sure with that graveyard in RF

7 years is the bar and I don’t think the Cards would go that high. I think clearly they want more money and will wait it out if they have to.

I think Alex Reyes would be an excellent closer but you don’t have your #1 prospect closing for long.

They need a closer but aren’t going to pay Davis or Holland money for one. Reed would be my guy at 4 years $40 million but I bet bowtie is a little gunshy after the Cecil debacle.

The Cubs trade matched up well with the Orioles. So it appears they want a another top prospect with it that the Cubs don’t want to budge on. Russell or Beckham to 3rd, Montgomery to the rotation and Almora to a starting job in the OF. That’s not a bad starting point.

They want Reyes. It’s not happening! I would do Gyorko, Flaherty and Grichuk but that’s not what they want.

I agree we will need to pay for the Archer-Colome combo and likely the Rays want Flaherty and Weaver and maybe Kelly at least with someone else. They want ML ready talent and can’t miss prospects.

They’d play Garcia at 3rd and Carpenter at 1st against righties. No way Carpenter can play against lefties now with the season he had last year but Munoz would get a call up one would think and play some if Gyorko would get injured.

That is unless someone like Molina or Kally might play the field. Kelly has been at 3rd before and Molina has played some 1st and I’ve hinted this might be something they want to force on him in his later years.

Yeah but if you see how much Time Zimmerman has missed the last 4 years you’d see where some playing time could happen for him. He’s lucky to have this deal fall in his lap.

I hope he’s worked on keeping the Lbs off and working in the OF a bit more. He did have to learn a bit on the fly last year. Not a bad score for about 250-300 PA

Giants might throw Duggar to the wolves but would they be interested in Grichuk? IT seems odd that the Rays would be interested in him in any deal involving Colome or Archer or both with Keirmaeir, Souza and Mallex Smith, Span ext….

I think the Cardinals want to make deals with both Tampa and Toronto if it means not gutting the system and some cash comes with it. It’s the way they do business now.

I’m also of the opinion that they won’t pay $15 million for a closer. Which is why this Tampa thing is still alive. I think there’s some cold feet on throwing money at that problem based on recent FA pitching failures. I think Addison Reed is the guy but my guess is the length would be an issue for us to commit.

I’m starting to warm to Hosmer a bit more but I can’t see them committed to that long of a contract. Boras is driving this likely into 7 year deal upward $25 million per which is why he’s not signed on anywhere. Which makes me laugh a bit because I really just have a feeling they’d tinker with Logan Morrison.

I’d wait as well and set some back alley deals in place with Tampa and Toronto.

Will the new FCC ruling have any effect on streaming mlb or other sports options?

And Brian you will begin to see some of these cord cutting options begin slowly to creep up in price along with internet. They’ll figure out a way.

Had nowhere to play. Glad he got into the Area.

Are the A’s taking on all the salary?

My guess is were not done dealing just yet. Something else big could be coming.

I never thought much of Sierra other than speed. His arm was wild and I thought his defense was suspect. There’s a million of those guys out there. Bader would be a better 4th OF’er.

    It’s time for Donaldson.

They can’t make excuses this time. Matheny’s job is on the line.
