The real question is will Dimwitt have the sack to get rid of Mo or is Mo pulling Jedi mind tricks on him?

The second question is will the Cardinals realize the path they are on does not work and go get someone that has a proven track record come in here and fix this mess.

The third question is how many seasons of crappy baseball will we have to watch to get good? The Astros were bad for a few but they have now been really good for a decade.

I see this as a complete burn it to the ground and start over – which I will hate to have to sit though and watch but if there is year over year improvement and you can see the process working and building back to being a legitimate title contender again – it’ll soften all the losing….

Right now, there is no hope. The team stinks. The architect of the stench is still in control and we can’t even think about getting better until a change is made.

This is the worst of times because we know it can’t even begin to get better until a new POBO / GM takes over and we don’t know when that will be or even if it will happen.

You’re right Texas BUT we have to play out the rest of the season with someone. Mo needs to go and then we need a Theo Epstein type to come in go to work. The new guy (if we get one) will want to hire his own people.

This season is a complete loss anyway so what’s the point in letting Mo fire or hire anyone?

Until he’s gone it doesn’t matter.

    This team needs an enema.

I’m convinced that this is now a full rebuild – from the POBO / GM, to the manager, to the roster.

3 years from now there may not be a single player or coach left in the organization that’s in the dugout tonight.

We need a new POBO / GM who will then have to hire his own people, tear this roster down, and rebuild it from the ground up.

It’s gonna take a few years to do it and clock won’t start until Mo is gone AND a good baseball man is hired to replace him.

Marmol isn’t a good manager but he’s not THE problem. Unfortunately, this mess starts at the top and we can’t fire the owner.

Mo and all his minions need to clean out their desks tomorrow.

Bill needs to hire a real baseball man as POBO / GM and then go do whatever it is he does and let the baseball man do his job.

Firing Marmol solves nothing. It won’t change the organizational philosophy, it won’t fix this mess of a roster, it won’t fix anything.

There is no manager that could win here right now. The mess has been brewing for years and – here we are.

It took Mo a decade to get here – it’ll take a real POBO a few seasons to get the stench out.

…..and the trainwreck of a season continues.

There is nothing about this team that gives me any reason whatsoever that they can or will turn this season around.

I’m really worried about next season too. There are so many things wrong, so many holes to fill, that it seems impossible to fix it all in a single off-season.

I also have zero faith in the owner, zero faith in the POBO & GM, zero faith in the manager and zero faith in the roster.

I am zeroed-out on this team, lol

Late and close in the modern game generally means facing the best the opposing bull pen has to offer – so you would expect some drop off – but not drastic for a ‘great’ player. Puhols’ numbers seem to reflect that and there is zero question about his greatness.

Generally, there’s a shelf life on fan patience and so, actions are taken to reset that clock from time to time.

If you have a losing franchise and a new GM is hired he will usually outline a plan to rebuild – and ask the fans to ‘trust the process’.

As long as progress is being made the average fan will go along and be generally supportive.

Mo has survived the last 3 years of Matheny, Schildt (who improved on Matheny) and is now on Marmol (who actually does seem to be an extension of Mo).

If you take a look at what kind of team the Cards have really been since mid-2015 – there aren’t many bright spots. Most of what they’ve accomplished has been courtesy of a weak division.

Mo is blessed with what may be the most patient fan base in pro sports. How long will the patience continue though?

Well that was just the next chapter in a whole book of revoltin’ developments this year.

27-40 – 13 games under. They have to play .667 baseball the rest of the way to get to 90 wins…..

Zero chance this team wins 2 of 3 for the entire rest of the season….

They have to go 54-41 .568 just to finish the season at .500.

This team has no soul and no fight to them. Nobody is mad. They say they are upset and frustrated with all the losing but I sure don’t see it.

I can see a win for the Cardinals here.

Liberatore is due for a good game.

Is there any way at all to package Contreras in some kind of deal and move on?

“For starters, the president of baseball operations said that it’s a problem that the Cardinals have so many open rotation spots next year (as many as 4 depending on Matz and Liberatore). He then went on to discuss the internal options, listing McGreevy and Graceffo specifically, before somewhat dismissing them.

Keep in mind that it’s only June, but Mozeliak said that McGreevy has been throwing the ball really well in Memphis but it’s a lot to rely on him for 180 innings next year. He had the same reservations about Graceffo too, especially considering how his injury is taking innings away from him. I believe he even used the word “disappointing”, or something to that effect, to describe Graceffo’s season so far, and that refers to both his injuries and the fact that he had a 4.91 ERA and 5.00 FIP before getting hurt.”

We are in BIG trouble for a pitching staff for next year. It’s gonna be a dumpster dive kind of year – I can feel it coming…..

Marmol is doing what Marmol is told to do. He IS a problem and could not carry Herzog’s or LaRussa’s jock BUT he’s not the REAL problem. I’m afraid the REAL problem is the owner – and you can’t fire the owner….

Back to 12 games under .500.

This team is what its record says it is.

    Bad.

We have a few good players but not nearly enough to win consistently.

It’s such a mess I really don’t know where to begin to fix it.

We need 3 starting pitchers, 2 bull pen pitchers one from each side and a set up man. I guess Helsley is still an ok closer? Hard to say because the saves ops are few and far between.

We need outfielders for sure and Goldschmidt is getting old.

DeJong stinks, Walker just needs to DH, I guess because he sure isn’t an outfielder – he costs us runs every time he plays out there.

Baker and Burleson are nothing special – why do we need them?

Like I said – so many needs where do you even start?

I was surprised when Mike Maddox quit as the pitching coach.

Based on the apparent ‘analytics first, last, and always’ approach that the Cardinal brass seems to demand from its coaching staff – I think I can understand why guys like Maddox and Maddon might not want to be a part of it.

This season has been ‘waiting to happen’ for 3-4 years and now it finally has.

DeWitt had better take a long, hard look at the culture and philosophy he is forcing on his organization. It might lead to a years long, hard cold winter for the Cardinals.

I don’t know about the hamburger.

Why does every team have some sort of hand signal that a batter makes every time they get a hit?

They look into the dugout and go through the motions. The first I can recall for the Cardinals was the “eating salsa on a chip” motion that Carpenter started doing – then they all had to do it.

This year it was the ‘pepper grinder’s but I think that got tossed during the historically horrible start. The current thing seems to be pointing to and grabbing an elbow?

To me this junk is like high stepping into the end zone after scoring a cosmetic touchdown to pull your team back to only down 49-7 in a football game.

How about the Cards get their record a few games above .500 first THEN come up with the fancy celebration after you get a single?

Is this season just an aberration or is this what Cardinal baseball is doomed to be for awhile?

It feels like this type of collapse has been building…..

So, we have what? About a month or so until the all-star break?

I’d have to think that unless the Cards are either within 4-5 games of the division lead and at least 3rd place OR back to within a game or two of .500 there won’t be much substantive incoming action this season.

I still say just put a computer on one of those rolling stands, but a Cardinal cap on top of the monitor, and call it the manager.

I wasn’t a Shildt fan but the more I find out about Mo and his lack of character the more I want him gone.

It’s pretty clear that his ideas on roster building will -at best – keep the Cards just good enough to sneak into the playoffs and then get crushed.

Maybe that is what ownership has told him to do. I’m sure they are all alarmed at being 10 games under and will try to fix that BUT it appears that slogging along playing .500 baseball until the all star break then making a couple of moves that just get the team over the hump and into the playoffs is the goal.

We just need 5 more runs to get to 10-0 THEN we can relax.
