Helsley strikes out Sheets. 12 hits and 9 runs is enough. Great work from our bullpen again tonight.

The 2006 and 2011 teams may have had better rosters than this year but they still struggled until the very end then got hot. That isn’t revisionist history. It happened.

I think winning your division is overblown. Sure it is nice but it guarantees nothing. Being labeled a wild card doesn’t signify you are a weak team. Sometimes a wild card team might have 95 wins and a divison winner might have 87. Who is the better team?

Ironically right now the two best teams in MLB reside in the NLC.

Gray has really gotten hit around his last two starts. He isn’t walking guys though, so he’s putting it over, just not fooling them much. Like batting practice. Do any of you wonks know if his velo is down or movement flattening out? Pitch tipping maybe?

Isn’t having a good (and healthy) roster what matters most? Those 2006 and 2011 teams had legit stars in the prime of their careers. Future Hall of Famers on the field and in the dugout. That fosters legitimate hope.

Until the Cardinals win again, 2006 and 2011 will continue to be referenced, but they are from a bygone era, 19 and 14 years ago, respectively. Not a single player or coach from those squads remain today. Just Mo…

That’s just simply not true. Lol I count 2 people who were on the 2011 team.

And DD, and JJ and C. Carpenter. Maybe more hold new positions in the org currently, if we break context.

There are a myriad of factors that go into a season or give one hope or angst. I won’t try to psychoanalyze. I was just pointing out that some teams flounder until the end then get hot (2006 and 2011) while others run off 100 victories then get slapped around as soon as the playoffs start (2015). And these are just Cardinal examples. I am sure there are others out there from other teams. In 2001 the Mariners won 116 games but didn’t make it to the world series. They can be dismissed as outliers but weird things happen sometimes.

Look if it were up to me the Cardinals would intentionally try to build a 100 game winner every single season and try to steamroll the competition all the way to the world series. We all know that is not going to happen nor is it sustainable unless you are willing to spend an insane amount of money, therefore, I am forced to accept that a season with postseason baseball is better than one without.
