6:15 p.m.
LHP Matthew Liberatore (6-7, 4.13) vs. RHP Randy Vásquez (3-4, 3.73)
FanDuel // KMOX // WIJRJuly 25, 2025 at 6:01 pm #288302Libby will have had two weeks off. Hopefully his command is good.
July 26, 2025 at 9:01 am #288369If the Cards end up sweeping the Pads will Mo pump the brakes on the sell off? My guess is no. I suspect some players are moving out the door regardless.
July 26, 2025 at 9:27 am #288375I suspect the same GScottar. That wouldn’t necessarily mean the season is hopeless though. We can certainly survive without Fedde. McGreevey is an upgrade already. And Maton, Romero, and Helsley would all be tough losses but we have replacements that could possibly fill most of that void. And who knows what we might get back in a trade return?
July 26, 2025 at 11:45 am #288384Agreed. McGreevy may turn out to be a big upgrade over Fedde and I think O’Brien could be a solid back end of the bullpen guy. The question would be can Leahy, Graceffo, and Granillo handle the setup roles? We would need a lefty in the pen if we lose Matz and Romero. King isn’t the answer.
July 26, 2025 at 1:51 pm #288394I think we need to stand still and sign a big bat in the off season. Imagine if we actually had someone in the lineup hitting 3rd or 4th that was a really good hitter. I know it won’t be a Judge or Ohtani type slugger but there has to be someone that can fill the void.

VS 2July 26, 2025 at 2:38 pm #288396The Doppler Radar shows a few scattered little cells in and around the metropolitan St. Louis area at the moment. Of course game time is still another 3.5 hours away so stay tuned. I’ll keep monitoring.
And din-din today will be a couple of thick center-cut pork chops in the air fryer, some deviled eggs, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, a strawberry parfait, and a chocolate shake.
July 26, 2025 at 2:43 pm #288398Thanks for the weather update, Rat! If you’re a Pads fan, you’ll be happy to know that Vasquez matches up extremely well vs tonight’s lineup. He’ll tame us with relative ease in this ballgame. Let’s call it 5-2 San Diego. And what’s for din-din tonight one may ask? It’ll be a trip on over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse for some medium rare prime rib, with the bites dipped into melted butter, asparagus spears, garlic mashed potatoes and then for dessert I have some homemade pecan pie waiting for me at home, compliments of the nice neighbors two houses down. I just may jazz it up a bit with some large globs of extra creamy whipped cream. P.S. That strawberry parfait is a very nice touch to your din-din, Rat. I’ll have to try that.
July 26, 2025 at 2:55 pm #288403I’ll be having brats that I just got done grilling, with kraut and mustard. Plus watermelon. I did get sprinkled on a bit. Nothing to keep real men from getting out there.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI’m having leftover steak fajitas, and since we used those hamemade tortillas on breakfast borritos, fresh ones are necessary again. Ah shucks.

I suspect the Cardinals will refuse to sell if they are within 5 games of the wildcard, which means this trade deadline will be a bummer for those hoping the Cardinals inject talent into the farm system to better compete in 2026 & beyond.
July 26, 2025 at 4:46 pm #288406I suspect Johnny will carry out orders that trickle down the chain of command from above. If Willie Jr. says to offer up any or all team merchandise for sale, that’s what Johnny will do. Conversely, if he tells Johnny to pick out a marginal SP’er from the bargain aisle at the Dollar Tree or Big Lots, Johnny will most assuredly abide…You know, something along the lines of Fedde…Haha!
July 26, 2025 at 4:54 pm #288407I think we will stick to the well stick to the sell mode. Management will want to give Bloom a chance to start fresh in ‘26, at least as much as is possible.
As I mentioned before, I think Helsley and Matz are gone for sure, and probably Maton. Management would love to work a deal for Arenado, but now that McMahon is off the table Suarez is next up. I think Gray is being shopped as well, but will still be a Cardinal next week at this time.
Din-din? I forgot we had leftover pasta, and that was last night’s meal along with a big tossed salad and a glass of vino. Tonight we will go pub style and polish off the sloppy joes, with fries and wash it down with water, or perhaps go full on with the pub scene and grab a cold one out of the fridge. Dessert will be a bowl of fresh cherries I grabbed at the store today.
July 26, 2025 at 5:16 pm #288409Here we are, about an hour before first pitch.
There appears to be a small cell just a little north and west of downtown St. Louis. This game is going to be hard to predict but I am going to go out on a limb and say it gets played with no delays.
However, as stated earlier in the week, I have been wrong before.

Again you assume we will get much talent in return for what we have available to sell. It’s not like the fruits of the 2023 sell off have done much for us to compete in 2024 and beyond. I don’t think that is an indication of our ability to evaluate Talent at all. More like take it or leave it.

jj-cf-stlParticipantThe deadline has become a sellers market. Whatever it takes to improve this roster, even if its small incremental steps, take it. The roster we all want will take time. There will be time for small steps to compound.
July 26, 2025 at 6:09 pm #288412I got a new Biolite smokeless grill. So im grilling burgers. Its hot. Cottage cheese on the side. Wash down with Arnie Palmer half and half iced tea and lemonade. I have some nice cold watermelon i the fridge. Later I imagine that other pint of Ben and Jerrys will be consumed. Good or bad I love baseball.
July 26, 2025 at 6:15 pm #288413However, as I stated earlier in the week, I have been wrong before.
About as often as Wade Boggs used to strike out……..hardly ever. What was the ad campaign for those old E.F. Hutton commercials? Something like “When E.F. Hutton speaks……people listen”. Well in the modern version, we wouldn’t be far off base at all by inserting Rat’s name for E. F. Hutton in that famous quote. Keep those meteorological reports a coming, Rat!
Some sterling din-din revelations again today. I’m definitely going to use a few of them.
July 26, 2025 at 6:38 pm #288414What a bonehead move by Scott in CF.
July 26, 2025 at 6:41 pm #288415Nice walk to a .548 ops hitter Libby.
July 26, 2025 at 6:58 pm #288417Walker gets a double over the head of Merrill and it’s 1-1 head into the 3rd.
July 26, 2025 at 7:06 pm #288418Is Walker hitting some lately or am I off my meds again?

July 26, 2025 at 7:53 pm #288423Vasquez pitches 4 2/3 innings of beautiful 1 hit baseball and after getting 2 easy outs in the bottom of the 5th, he’s rewarded by getting yanked out of the ballgame. Seems ungrateful to me.
