Any Jhon Torres sightings? He’s not listed with any organization that I can see. Delvin Perez is on the Yanks AA roster. There were high hopes for both
of these guys at one time.

Any chance catcher Julio Rodriguez is back on the radar? His offense has picked up. There was some discussion a few years ago whether he should be protected on the 40 man roster. He’s lost significant time to injuries but with Yadi retiring and Herrera unproven any chance he gets a shot as a backup?

Johan Quezada is throwing strikes for Memphis. One walk and 15 K’s in 9 innings.
Very encouraging. He’s struggled with control most of his career. Maybe he’s
    turned the corner.

Always looking for a glimmer of hope with the youngsters. It’s clearly been a disasterous year thus far for Tre Fletcher. I see he’s playing again and today had one K in 4 plate appearances.
I’m not saying it’s time to celebrate but at least he’s back on the field. We’ll see how the rest of the season goes.

Thanks Brian. I’d like to see Baker and Delvin Perez get another year in the organization to show what they can do. I was disappointed to see Plummer let go after finally breaking through. All that time and investment with no return….still trying to understand that one.

Thank you for keeping us talking Cardinal baseball!

Is there an official date for the start of minor league spring training?
As the lockout drags on what are the odds that the Rule 5 draft will be
    canceled? Thanks.

    We’ll see……I’m thinking a 2024 debut. It’ll be exciting, whenever it is.

I think he’ll end up at 1st base. He’s still a few years away so timing-wise he might
be ready when Goldy starts to slow down. His size will make him a nice big target for
    for the other infielders.

I’m surprised that Nolan Arenado was completely shut out. Not even one 10th place
    vote?

Where is Justin Williams? Listed as active on the Memphis roster but hasn’t played in quite some time. Last game appearance was July 2nd.

His career BA is.252 with an OBP of .355. Granted it’s only 115 AB’s but his
    power caught my eye.

Seth Blair is still hanging in there. He’s in the Red Sox camp as a NRI. He’s
32 now and has yet to throw a pitch above AA level. The Sox must see something
there that’s worth a look. He was also in their alternate camp last summer.

Seth Blair opened some eyes at the Red Sox alternate camp this summer.

    From the Boston Globe:
A number of relievers who had intriguing performances at the team’s Alternate Site in Pawtucket have re-signed on minor league deals. The group includes Seth Blair, lefthander Stephen Gonsalves,
    and righthander Caleb Simpson.

He was a supplemental first-round pick in 2010…couldn’t throw strikes. Jordan Swagerty was
in the same draft and was on the fast-track to St. Louis until injuries derailed his career.

Yairo Munoz is off to a great start with the Red Sox. 6 hits in a doubleheader yesterday and 8 for 15 for a .533 average so far. He’s only 25. I know he screwed up with the Cards but
it’s unfortunate they got nothing in return.

Has there been any progress made on what the AFL might look like this year?

Lost in the disappointment is Reyes performance. Yes, he got the loss but
if DeJong gets to 3rd as he should have maybe they win the game. No walks,
3 K’s. The hit that put the Indians ahead was actually a pretty good pitch.
Naquin did a nice job of going down to get it. His ERA is a respectable 4.32
but if O’Neil catches the ball as he should have on the 26th against KC Reyes
ERA would be 2.16. I know….that’s baseball….just trying to find something
positive. If Alex can consistently throw strikes like he did yesterday it’s
going to be a huge step forward which hopefully finds him in the rotation
    next year.

Any idea how a taxi squad will work? Where will they be located?
Will they play games against other taxi squads? Just trying to
get a feel for what it would look like.

36 pitchers used to date….no sign of Ricardo Sanchez. I’m hoping
we get a look at him sometime this spring.

The Cards 4 AFL pitchers have combined for 1 walk and 31K’s in 22 innings.
    Pretty impressive!

Edman’s diving stop of Heyward’s grounder may have saved the game. If that ball
gets through it’s 1st and 3rd with one out…probably wouldn’t have gone extra
innings. It was overlooked by the announcers because the tying run scored on the play.

Edman continues to come through with both the bat and the glove!

Is it me or does it seem like there’s less info available from the organization
on injured players compared to prior seasons? I follow the minor leaguers on
a daily basis and at times players just seem to disappear for a period of time
with no explanation. This is not a complaint – just an observation.

The most disappointing aspect of this season to me is the number of injuries
to many of the top prospects. I’m not going to list them…we all know who
    they are.

I can handle the Cards not having a great season. I’ve been a fan for 50+ years.
I’m more disappointed in the lack of prospect progress – much of it due to injuries.

Alex Reyes Watch – He’s missed two starts now:

    6/23 – Last game action
    6/28 – First missed start
    7/03 – Second missed start
7/08 – Probable third missed start

Originally projected to miss 2 to 3 starts. I haven’t seen
an update since the injury which is concerning. Is he shut down
or is he throwing? The Cards have been quiet about his status.

I was browsing the MiLB website looking for Allen Cordoba’s stats/status. Was quite surprised to see Seth Blair – former Cards first round pick – on the same team as Cordoba. They’re at High A Lake Elsinore in the Padres system. Blair had been out of baseball since 2014. Best of luck to them!
