    Paid - Annual

Opening Day for Triple-A is scheduled for Tuesday, April 5 with a regular 144-game schedule following. A new announcement made today is tacking an extra week onto the end of the season, with Triple-A only playing 150 games, through Wednesday, September 28. The reason is to better align with MLB (and recognizes that greatly expanded September rosters are probably not coming back).

The other three full season levels are scheduled to play 132 games.

It’s going to be a shame that some of the players on the 40 man are probably going to be locked out, while their Memphis teammates are working out on the back fields – Oviedo, Rondon, Walsh, Pacheco, Herrera, Sanchez, Yepez, and Donovan.

A clarification. ALL 40-man players are locked out.

How the MLB Lockout Will Hurt Top Prospects this Spring

Exactly right, Brian. That’s why I made the comment about some of the Memphis players who won’t be able to work out with their teammates starting the end of the 1st week in March (if the lock out continues). Your article wasn’t viewable for a number of us.

If the AAA season begins before the lockout ends it will be interesting to see who the Memphis catcher is since Herrera and Sanchez would not be able to play.

Coulter and Julio Rodriguez would be my guess.

Is there an official date for the start of minor league spring training?
As the lockout drags on what are the odds that the Rule 5 draft will be
    canceled? Thanks.

No official spring dates have been released, but I expect a normal minor league camp.

Just my guess, but I doubt there will be time and interest in holding the major league phase of the Rule 5 this year. When the lockout finally ends, rosters are going to be moving targets almost daily due to the large number of free agents still unsigned.

Thanks Brian. I’d like to see Baker and Delvin Perez get another year in the organization to show what they can do. I was disappointed to see Plummer let go after finally breaking through. All that time and investment with no return….still trying to understand that one.

Thank you for keeping us talking Cardinal baseball!

So are all minor leaguers in some sort of Spring Training now? I assume they play games against other teams eventually, but really don’t know! Haven’t heard anything about the Cardinals minor leaguers being in camp but see other teams players pop up in stories online. Anyone have the scoop?

Minor league spring training is an evolving situation with different teams handling camps differently. Rumors are that the Cardinals will allow fans, but I don’t have anything official yet.

This article at The Athletic helps explain why the situation is so volatile. As much as it had appeared that minor league camp would be unaffected by the lockout, that is no longer the case.

OK, I have now confirmed that the Cardinals minor league camp will be open to fans. I still have no other details except that camp officially opens on Monday (which you already knew).

Here is the camp roster of 153 players. After I crawl through the names, I will post a member article with my observations.
