September 8, 2020 at 7:55 pm in reply to: 2020 Cardinals Game #35 – Tue, Sept. 8 vs. Twins Game 2 DH #139326Bull is managing this one like its Game 7 of the World Series. We’re down to our last closer, Gallegos, and we’re not yet to the last inning.
Cards should pick him back up.
Tough day.
But we appear to be better than the Cubs.
Go Cards.
RIP Lou Brock.
That’s a winner!
Bader is seeing the ball quite well.
Thomas, Bader, and Wong putting the ball in play back to back to back. 6-3 now.
Should Shildt try to squeeze another inning out of Hudson? Close call, but I say yes.
Nice pitch by Hud! That one was tightly wrapped.
1,2,3 inning for Hud after we re-took the lead. I love it when a pitcher protects a momentum shift like that.
Bader beautifully takes one oppo for a stand-up lead-off double. He’s swinging the bat better, seriously better. I think the tough love Bull Shildt gave him is paying off. Bull still pushing all the right buttons.

Bull Shildt pulls Helsley(who pitched well) at the perfect time. Come on Cabrera!

Nice decision by Skipper Shildt to pull him at the perfect moment. Come on Gallegos!

Go Cards.
Vintage Yadi slapping that Texas League single to center with one out in the 8th.
Could be meaningless. Could turn into something.
Come on Carp.
Go Cards.
O’Neill strikes out.
Carlson laces one up the middle that would have been a hit in the good old days. But the shift got him.
I hate the shift.
If baseball wants to stress offensive production that makes the game entertaining, abolishing the shift would be much more effective than juicing the ball, promoting exit velocity, launch angles, etc.
I hate the shift.
Erica Weston and Ankiel doing work tonight. They just flashed the following stat:
Jack Flaherty is one of only 6 pitchers since 1968 to go at least 20 consecutive starts with an ERA of 1.08 or less.
That’s some quality research right there.
Go Cards.
