I would think Gallen needs to turn it around this year some before he gets a lot of cash thrown at him.
I got a feeling they are going to take payroll down to about $100-110 million for 2026 and see what shakes out from their system, and then maybe put a little money into 2027
Matthews threw a ton of pitches in college including 156 pitches in a super regional, I don’t recall him throwing upper 90’s in college
Cardinals have roughly $48-50 million coming off their books next year with ….Mikolas, Helsley, Matz, Fedde, Maton
That would bring their Major League Payroll down to around $85 million with Gray and Aranado still on the team going by Sportrac.
They will have a few players that get more money, but that is some reduction from 2024’s payroll…. unless they plan on adding some free agents.
The same guy that made this disaster trade is still running the ship at the trade deadline this year.
Can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

Scott…………………..CFIf Dewitt can’t afford Donovan’s salary he needs to sell the team, he has to much versatility, you can’t have a line up with a bunch of guys struggling to hit .230, not to mention the Edman trade disaster

They are really low on players in the Outfield it seems at MLB and AAA, and really just Baez at AA, who has had a bounce back year

Zack Thompson if he can get healthy would be another LH option– Would need a 5th starter in trades (Hence and Mathews would be options if can stay healthy)

How in the world do you get shutout by the Rockies….has Marmol heard of stolen bases or something like a hit and run.
There is no way that dude can be back as Manager next year….that is 7 shutouts in the last 23 games
I think the Stanford Shortstop Haskins could be a sleeper, his stats, smarts and versatility could be pretty helpful
They definitely went after releif pitchers, I would say also high velo arms as well
As for hitters it looks like plate discipline and Hard Hit rate were some things they looked at
The Catcher, Chase Heath, who they took with their last pick in 20th round out of Central Missouri has some interesting stats.
Won a conference gold glove in 2024, and hit 25 HR over his last 2 years with around a .373 average
He is undersized though at 5-10 200 lbs, and not sure on competition in the MIAA

big guy, Kansas lists him 6-5 270I would think Weatherholt is there top prospect as he has done it at AA, just got promoted and looked good at the Futures game over the weekend….my guess is Doyle would be #2

One stat that stood out
Hit .481 with runners in scoring position and .410 with two outs
Gurevitch has the chance to be a very good hitter at the next level. He has a handsy swing from the left side of the plate that is capable of making extremely loud contact, and he’s registering very high exit velocities this spring. He absolutely crushes fastballs, but he has a tendency to be a bit over-aggressive and chase pitches — especially breaking stuff — out of the zone, though some evaluators think that can be toned down. It’s mostly hard line drives to all fields, but there’s some belief there’s more power to come given how hard his contact has been.
Strong and compact, Gurevitch has played some third base this year, but most feel like he’s destined to be a first baseman. He gets very high marks for his toughness, leadership and overall makeup, which might give teams more confidence he’ll maximize his tools.
From the MLB site above…..that sounds like a LH hitting Goldschmidt…hopefully he can be
Yeah I agree, he will most likely be a SP starting out…I saw Tennessee play a few times don’t think I saw him….but they are definitely adding velocity with the 2 pitchers so far
