AdM, Contreras is certainly more formidable than Goldy and Arenado, right now. Burleson is the most solid hitter on the team. right now. I have many astute Cardinals friends/fans that rave about him. Actually, touting him as the team MVP. But, I know, you have higher standards. lol
Burleson is a “stud, bud” player. He can fricken’ hit. Be thankful he’s a Cardinal. I took tons of grief for supporting him earlier. No biggie. I just saw it in Burleson. The Cardinals now need some high-priced “big boys” to perform like Burly has recenly.
AdM, are you really sure Contreras is ” the team’s best hitter by a wide margin”? Some now feel Burleson is, at least, the Cardinals’ “most feared hitter”, right now. That has to befuddle you, somewhat. lol Give it up, man. You were grossly wrong in your nasty posts regarding Burleson and my support of him in the past.
Do Cardinals fans truly appreciate the development and contribution of Winn, Burleson and Pages have made this season? Especially, since others, with high expectations, have not performed well. I’m very glad those quality players, Winn, Burleson and Pages, are with the Cardinals. Hopefully, for many years to come.
The Cardinals just need the “big money guys” (Contreras, Goldschmidt and Arenado) to produce like they are getting paid, plentifully, to do.
It’s obvious that Marmol really likes Winn and Burleson at 1 and 2. And it’s been a good combo at the top of the order. Now, the “big money guys” need to come through at 3, 4 and 5. Will they? that’s the multi-million dollars a year question looming.
They way way both Arenado and Gorman have been struggling recently. Mo picking up both Saggese and Prieto might turn out to be very good insurance for the infield.
ZTR, I agree. Both Kittridge and King have really competed for this team. Along with Fernandez, nice relief pitcher additions by Mo. Though Romero has been struggling a little lately. He can be added to the list.
When Nootbaar returns. Do the Cardinals keep Burleson at 2 or move him into more of an RBI spot? Maybe Winn, Donovan, Burleson, Contreras, Goldy, Nootbaar, Arenado, Gorman, and Siani or Carlson.
Jnevel, “Burleson is more likely to decline”. Burleson is at least as good of a defensive corner outfielder as Holliday and Ozuna were. And Burleson has a very good arm. Plus, Burly could just be “scratching the surface” into his pure talent as a hitter. Let’s hope that can be said regarding Walker, fairly soon. It looks to me like Burleson is hitting his way into the regular 1B job next season. So him being in RF may be a moot subject next season.
mudville. Donovan is so solid in LF. It’s hard to move him from there. Though he is very steady at some other defensive positions, too. Don’t count Saggese out at 2B or 3B by next season. He has a lot of natural hitting ability with some “pop”.
I’m starting to wonder if Goldschmidt needs to also be lowered more in the lineup. He still has some production. But he too often seems helpless in the clutch. I realize the way Arenado and Gorman have performed this season. It doesn’t give Marmol many MOTO options, right now.
Jnevel, then Mo needs to come up with another viable closer at the deadline to compliment Helsley’s unavailability to perform in some close games. Also, Helsley seems to have missed quite a bit of time due to injury in the past.
Next season. install Burleson at 1B. Use the saved Goldschmidt money on another much needed quality starting pitcher. It’s a no-brainer.
I don’t get it. Where was Helsley tonight? I’m pretty sure many past Cardinals outstanding closers would have “answered the bell” in this important divisional game. And I’m starting to wonder about Gallegos and Romero.

Both, highly-acclaimed 1st round picks.And how do you rate their potential/production compared to Burleson’s. You seem to be far more critical of Burleson than Gorman and Walker. Would Burleson even be in the lineup, right now, if you were “running the show”?
KCB, there’s been as lot of rent free stuff going around with others, too, for the last couple years. It’s kind of like Brian indicated. Just ignore if it’s not to another poster’s liking/standards. Brian has things under control here. But it sometimes got nasty elsewhere. The Cardinal Nation is so refreshing, conduct-wise.

PadsFS, Burleson will be fine in either RF or 1B in the Cardinals lineup next season. As long as he keeps hitting, consistently. He’s probably a fairly high level DH if that’s where he ends up. However, Burly seems to prefer a defensive position in the lineup. Frankly, I don’t feel he has come close to peaking, as yet, as a hitter. I know some probably get tired of me talking about Burleson. But his production and enthusiasm are so refreshing to me as a Cardinals fan. However, I’ll try to slow down on the Burly posts. lol
1td, that’s funny. Arenado has a pretty good gig going financially, no doubt. Actually, so does Goldschmidt. This season, Arenado’s age/performance/salary is more perplexing.
